I prefer Judas Priest's version of "Diamonds and Rust far more than the original.
Speaking of covers, right now I'm constructing a melodic death metal version of the goonies theme song "Good enough."

In Flames "Land of Confusion" (originally by Genesis)
KMFDM "Mysterious Ways" (Originally by U2)
Ugly Kid Joe "Cats Cradle" (Originally by Cats Stevens)
Deadstar Assembly "Send me an Angel" (Originally by Real Life)

Tainted Love: Marilyn Manson > Soft Cell KMFDM "Mysterious Ways" (Originally by U2) Cars by the Fear Factory Sunday Bloody Sunday by Pillar Take On Me by Reel Big Fish |
:( I disagree with those. Especially the U2 songs ("Mysterious Ways" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday"). Fear Factory's cover of Gary Numan's "Cars" is good, but I wouldn't call it better than the original. There actually was a re-release of the Gary Numan version which was really good...
BTW, "You Spin Me Right Round" was by Dead or Alive.

Awesome, lol, keep up the good work!
By the way, I feel that *Motorhead's version of 'Cat Scratch Fever' is far better than Ted Nugent's or even Pantera's. ("Well the first time that I got it I was 30 years old..." lol)
Everybody who's anybody MUST hear *Rough Cutt's version of Janis Joplin's 'Piece Of My Heart', it's just fucking awesome! They totally change the rythm, but at the same time they don't o_O? I don't know how to explain, but the wa-wa on the guitars is totally RAD too.
Rough Cutt-Piece Of My Heart (No doubt IMO the best cover yet)

I wonder how long it'll be before someone mentions the TERRIBLE (IMO) Johnny Cash cover of NIN's "Hurt". And even if people do like it (which is perfectly understandable), can they honestly say it's BETTER than the original (which is the point of this thread)??
My picks would be the Gary Jules cover of "Mad World", George Michael's cover of "I Can't Make You Love Me", and even though it's generally despised, I thought Sheryl Crow's cover of "The First Cut Is The Deepest" was ok.

I like a lot of Johnny Cash's song covers, like "One" by U2, "Personal Jesus" by Depeche Mode, and of course, "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails. But I like all of the originals better. The "Personal Jesus" cover is really odd.

maybe jimi hendrix cover of bob dylans all along the watch tower but like a rolling stone is the best by dylan not anyone else that covered it. and i think it was the thunderbirds that wrote and played it but the song is something in the air and tom peetty and the heartbreakers did a better job

Why not? Knock yourself out.
BTW, I also agree that KMFDM's cover of "Mysterious Ways" is better, but only for comedic value. En Esch had the flu when he was singing that.
Also:
KMFDM's Boots > The original singer whose name is on the tip of my tongue now but I cannot recall.
Coal Chamber's Shock the Monkey > Ditto
Pig's Just Like You > Ministry's version

I never liked Johnny Cash's cover of 'Hurt'. The original song by NIN will always be the best in my opinion. But to answer the question of this thread, Manson's cover of 'Sweet Dreams' was better than the original, same with the NIN cover of that Queen song.

Love Is Alive (Gary Wright) - covered by the band Eyes in 1993. Jeff Scott Soto was the singer for the band Eyes. IMO he is one of the greatest vocalists ever.
