Dead or Alive Ultimate... Doa3's faults...

The major gripe I hear about DOA3 is the reversal system is entirely to easy to pull off reversals with way to much damage... thats true, so if the reversal were A. Harder to do and B. Did less Damage, would DOA3 be up there with SC2, VF4:Evo, and recent tekken games... I myself don't know... I've played SC2 and its harder to get good than DOA3 because I can't do reversals, but I don't own SC2... yet... so anyone know if DOAU's reversal system has been tweaked or if its the same cheapness.... I think the rest of the game is fine really because if you use a person enough they have moves for every situation, and sometimes alternate sets of moves while faces different directions, etc... thoughts?

Tomonabu Itagaki said that DOAU will uses a new type of counter system. So I'm not really sure which way they'll go.

Ok a little off subjects, but is it just me or does Ryu Hayabusa have more useful attacks in Ninja Gaiden than five of MKDA's characters combined? Anyway I hope the counter system will make the game a deeper fighter.. I mean I have a Gamecube and a Xbox... SC2 is as deep as I can go... I'm not counting on MKD to be that deep, but if it is after I buy it... well... sweet...

I've played both SC 1 & 2, and DOA 3. I like SC 2 a lot, but I think DOA 3 is more fun. DOA is more sylized becuase of the easy counter system which makes it a much more of a back and forth game over other traditional fighting games. It means that novices can come in and start countering and contend with more skilled playerts not get his ass handed to him. I'm not saying that DOA is a water down fighting game it just has a more intuitive and easier to use couter system to give it more depth. Couters shouldn't be as hard to pull of they are some other fighting games, because in my opinion they loose there usefullness if they become so complex to pull off. It just makes DOA a more accessable fighting game to casual gamers, and not just for die hard fighting game fans.

True, DOA is accesible to new players and they can win from skilled players.
But ask yourself, would you enjoy losing form someone that just picked up the controller and smashed the button while you've been training for a month, memorizing the counters and moves.
I think DOA is a bit too easy to play. Some simple button smashing and you've got a nice combo that does a fair amount of damage.
I think MK:DA is better in that aspect, you can do a few easy combo's when you know nothing, but they won't help you much. You really need to learn the combo's if you want to win from experienced players (unlike DOA).
Then there's VF4 which is way too complicated for me. You have to time when you have to turn the stick a half circle to the left after which you need to press A+B rapidly. However, if you fail, he won't do a thing and you get beaten to pulp.
I won't talk about Tekken 4 because I haven't played it yet.
So in the end, what I'm trying to say is that DOA is bit to easy for my taste (combo's and reversals). It's fun to play for a while though, and it's gaphics are gorgeous. But that's about it. I might rent DOAU but I'm not going to buy it unless they've changed the fighting system.
Rant over.

C'mon like you guys played DOA for it's engaging gameplay or it's involving story... yeah and DOA:EBV had the physics solely focused on the volleyball and not the fun bags...

I believe the gameplay is some of the best in a fighting game. Even though I love the awesome and "bouncy" graphics in DOA, the gameplay is the fun of the game.
Also, DOA:EBV sucks.

True, but also how would you like picking up the controller to a fighting game and getting your ass handed to you by someone who's been spending some time with the game. It get annoying especially when trying to play a game in the arcades, and not being able to get your own practice time in because some has been hogging the game honning there skills. I'll admit it isn't very fun getting beat by someone just button mashing, but it's also just as unfun trying to get learn and get a grasp on a game while playing against someone who knows the ropes.
DOA's counters might be a little to easy, but it certainly beats beeing to hard. I also like how the multi-tier arenas are done and the whole style of the game. The damage could be more balanced, certainly, but other than that I think it is a good game.
