I've seen countless of articles that claims that video games are the cause of death for people who has been playing a game for eight+ hours straight with no breaks or moving around for a bit.

Here's one typical article click here

It's a bit tiresome how people choose to word their headlines about how video games are to blame for pretty much everything, next I assume that we should be blaming video games for the economy collapsing right? It's not the game's fault that people are getting life threatening conditions happen to them, it's their choice of not taking a break or moving around after sitting for a while.

I remember reading something about how a mother is grounding her son after she saw him collapse for playing 12+ hours of CoD. Blamed that it was the game's fault and not that it was hers or her son's fault for not stopping to play the game which caused him to turned blue and slumped over. Why choosing to play for such a long time is beyond me.

I've been in situations where I've played a video game for a long time, but I choose to move around for thirty minutes afterwards so that my legs don't fall asleep and that I am still active after playing a long time. Like yesterday, my boyfriend and I were playing WoW and I wanted to take a break, as well as make sure that he takes one too. But because people choose to just sit though and not do anything, they get these life threatening conditions happen to them and there's hardly anything to do.

So, does this kinda bother you or not really? The fact that people still blame that it's the game's fault and not the person who's playing.

It doesn't really make me mad because that's a ridiculous trash article demonizing video games for sensational reasons. Luckily we live in a world where people that pass laws about video games aren't this clueless (though they'll scare you from time to time.)

First and foremost, anyone who sits and plays a video game for eight hours without any break time is an idiot.

Second, video games entertain. That's it. They may cause occasional feels from intense moments (AZ and Floette, recently), but that's about it.

Third, to hell with these articles. People would do whatever it takes to start up some shit to suit their own preferences. It means nothing to those who are capable of making their own decisions.

*Edits thread title* Please don't be vague about thread topics. smile
As for the article and the content related to it, I have to say that it bothers me a little because writers like that are still perpetuating the stereotype that there's either something wrong with the games, or the gamers themselves (game kills man who played for 72 hours and only drank Red Bull, gamer who played MK buys gun at Wal-Mart on sale, kills 7 in shooting). It's just so stupid and ignorant, as if we are not responsible for our own choices and are slaves to the drugs, music, alcohol, and activities we do that any normal person would do.

Articles, and by extension people, who blame video games for other peoples' own moronic/evil actions used to bother me. More because I was concerned the one who read them would actually believe them and try and make moves to place restrictions on games. Kinda like what California tried to do a little while back.

Nowadays I don't really read or pay attention to most of these things, because I and (I hope) the greater population have realized that all these individuals are doing is trying to grab more page views with sensationalistic crap. And if they do really believe the dribble they spew out, then I can pass them of as an idiot and move on with my day. Much like that one church (who will not be named) the best course of action is to simply ignore them, don't even give the most minuscule thought in your head. Because in the end all they want to do is stand on their soapbox and yell at anyone who gives them the opportunity. To that effect I didn't click on the link to the article.smile

It doesn't bother me. It balances out how up our own asses we can be sometimes.
