I think people need to understand that there is a difference between big and obese.

Just because someone is big doesn't mean they are unhealthy. In fact, there are plenty of people who appear to be healthy simply because they are thin, yet they have high blood pressure, diabetes, and clogged arteries.

The media have branded the image of beauty to such a great extent that anyone who doesn't even come close to having such an image is automatically deemed unfit and unhealthy.

Even when I was super buff and could lift over 250 pounds despite being 5'1", I still suffered from high blood pressure.

I'm not saying there aren't big people who are unhealthy, I'm just saying folks need to stop making the image of a big person so taboo.

I think it all depends. I have meet women that weren't thin that I defined would go for. Weight isn't as huge a factor if the girl is overall good looking. It's not just about being thin, but also having a pretty face, and a style that complements her too IMO. I think generally though women shouldn't worry so much about their weight so long as they don't weigh more than guys.

I understand that sometimes its genetic. I myself went through a weight issue.

I was always think as a child, then at about gr.3 I started gaining weight because of my obsession with video games.

I grew to be 6'3" into highschool (im 6'"4 now) and still maintained a heavy weight but it wasnt really that noticable to people. Maybe ebcause Im so tall.

I eventually was exactly 243 lbs and decided ive had enough aswell as started palying guitar. My biggest problem was eating/drinking for the taste and not for the necessity.

I stopped drinking pop (soda) alltogether. drank nothing but water and walked home from school every day (about a 45 minute walk) and only ate lunch and dinner.

I went from 243 down to 165 in about 10 months. Lost over 33% of my body weight and was thin as a skeleton.

I have since thickened out due to construction work and am just over 200. I went from too heavy, to too thin, now im fluctuationg at a mor healthy balance. I do admit its hard in the winter time not to gain a little much weight due to videogames and lack of excercise. But the summer helps balance that out.

Ive learned alot about self-conciousness and judging since I was a child. I Dont believe in jusdging anybody else until they cross the line and ambitiously judge or interperate you.

If somebody is overweight, Im not gonna look at them differently than any other person. But an obnoxious overweight person trying to talk they are as sexually appealing as somebody who puts effort into their health and even to the point of ridiculing people who dont agree with them is completely worthy of being judged and ridiculed. Trying to have a cake without baking and putting other people down who are baking.

Stupid people.

To anybody who is overweight. Theres no such thing as being unable. The sooner you get out (and just walk an hour a day and drink water while only eating when hungry). Ive done it and so can you, its a choice of lifestyle.

used to be 243, This is what I looked liek after losing 82 lbs. 6'3" tall:

Now with the little ive gained since. A healthy balance.

Sorry I dont have any pics form when I was at full weight. Wish I did but I rarely allowed my picture to be taken. but from 243 lbs to fluctuating around 200-210 replacing fat with a better percentage of muscle. Im very happy.

ANybody can lose weight, because I did.

I happen to like women with enough discipline and self-control to stay in good shape and treat their bodies right.

Then again, I'm quite the athletic, spry, toned guy myself.

Now, if you're talking height? Sure, big girls need love there. Despite being 5'8", I gladly dated my roommate's gorgeous 6'4" sister. Those legs were just... wow.

IS she named Starfire? She is 6'4'' and gorgeous

Hahaha trust me thats a horrible picture. But im comfertable nonetheless. I usually look way better than that. Mohawk messed up ebcause we were just swimming in a freshwater sinkhole (Amazing) and deffinately in need of a shave.

We were drunk on a vacation to Mexico and all shaved Mohawks to tell the Canadians apart. Needless to say we won every beer contest there and even played our own version of mexican hockey we created :) Which lead to...

Will the MKO users please excuse me for my subconcious needs to redeem that crazy hair dew. Other (normal pictures) in my now healthy stage:

Not the best up and down shots but enough to tell form neck and arm proportioning that I had lost a ton of weight. Thanks MKO from letting me redeem myself on that one. haha

you gotta understand that sometimes its genetic, or by a hormonal disorder, u know.

some thin persons are just thin by their metabolism, not by them taking special cares of themselves.

some other people get obesce because a malfunction in the thyroid gland.
u know there was one tv program on the national geografic where they showed a woman that was slim, runned like 5km every morning but started gaining weight, she had a tumor un her thyroid gland.

well, i just have to say that i dont really care if you like big girls/dudes, but you shouldnt make their lives impossible with bullying, if you want them to change there are other methods, that could result in better results.

Ok this is getting me ill...

I noticed that many of you people can't stand fat people because you assume its a lack of self control. There are medical reasons why some people are over weight and no matter how hard they work out or starve themselves that weight can not be taken off.

One of my best friends in high school and later on college was like this. She normally ate less than what a fly could live on, tried walking, work out videos (too embarrassed for gym), etc. She just couldn't loose weight. I witnessed people, total strangers, walk up to her to and give weight loss advice. One older guy we didn't know walked right up to her while we were waiting for a movie theater to allow setting to say she shouldn't eat that small bag of popcorn. Others weren't so nice. I tried to help her by telling her not to take it personally and that those people were morons. Sadly the voice of a single friend is rarely as strong as the opinions of a multitude of strangers. She ended her life.

Yes, there are over weight people whose only reason is lack of self control, laziness, etc. but never, ever assume that is the reason and never, ever 'help' someone with their weight unless they ask for it.

And those who insist that losing weight is easy, may your metabolic rate fall through the floor and require you to live on the lettuce and tomato diet just to keep your weight steady.

To me people blame sociaty for too much these days, take for instance this topic about people looking for look over personality, that is basically stereotyping good looking people as cunts and saying that you have a better chance of finding a nice person if they're fat. And I for one have met alot of fat people that are as mean as cat shit. Just cos someones personal preference is a toned athletic person they should not be judged for that.
I have a friend and shes a model and alot of this media stuff goes on how models make the average woman feel shit etc, but the point is its the models job to look good.
But yes i believe big people need love too but if they're serious they can try to look good instead of whinging how the look then going to maccas and supersizing everything.
BTW I am one of them people blessed with the fast metabolism where i canlive on fast food go out and drink 3-4 times a week and not get fat, Ive been to the gym once in my life and still have definition in my abs, the heaviest i've weigh'd is 82 kilos prob 180 lbs now im 71kg so im prob not the best person to comment on fatties cos i do not understand what its like to be one

I don't even understand how someone gets overweight. Is it that easy? Is it gradual? You keep gaining weight and you're like "whatever I'm not going to try to eat better or exercise" for a while? Or do you just wake up one morning like "shit I'm fat." Like I know I was 5'6 and 110 lbs. entering high school and when I got out I was 5'9 and 125 lbs. and then after a year of college I was 140 lbs. Freshmen fifteen. But I didn't mind that weight gain. I figured it was just my body filling out towards the end of puberty. But I'm not overweight. And I continue to try to eat healthy and exercise. I don't know. I just don't understand how you let yourself go. I guess you really just don't care?

And this whole thyroid condition excuse. I am sorry, but for every person who has this thyroid condition I feel like there are a hundred people who legitimately just don't take care of their own bodies the way they should.

I'm not saying people are supposed to look like runway models or have abs. But is it really that difficult to stay in shape? You only have one body. I don't know why you wouldn't take care of it. All I can think of is apathy. If you really don't care, then power to you. But if you don't care about yourself, like this thread originally asked, then why would I take the time to care for you?

I once believed in the whole "If-they're-not-going-to-take-care-of-their-body-and-don't have-control-over-themselves-then-they-deserve-it!" stuff when I was 12 or 13.

But then I realized something: People like myself can still have high cholesterol, not exercise, and eat like shit but still remain thin. So, If I was lucky enough to have a fast metabolism, then surely, there has to be people who were born with the opposite; people who were at an inherent disadvantage as opposed to my inherent advantage. And on top of the whole metabolism thing, there are a myriad of other factors involved in being overweight like education, parenting, income level, location, etc. So, for me to generalize overweight people as folks who just don't care about themselves, would be just as monumentally stupid as calling every thin person an anorexic.

So I guess what I'm saying is: Try not to be such a high-handed jerk.smile

I'm really sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately, one of the reasons some people have so much trouble losing weight is because they heed bad advice that is, nonetheless, repeated, and often (like in this thread). Too often folk wisdom just isn't. For instance, studies have shown that in many cases intense exercise is detrimental to weight loss efforts because the acute expenditure of energy during the exercise causes the person doing the exercise to feel hungry, and therefore eat more later on. Researchers actually found that doing a lot of moderate exercise (walking, cleaning the house, etc) was much more effective. There are too many other factors involved, though, that most people just don't have an adequate understanding of, and are therefore not qualified to give others sound advice about weight loss. That's why I always advise someone seriously intent on losing weight to consult a doctor, or a licensed dietician about it. Their counsel may be a bit pricey at times, but it's worth avoiding all the grief and discouragement after having put in all the effort and sweat, and getting nothing in return. No professional worth their salt would ever tell a client that effort (or misery) and results always correlate.

It's funny you should mention that, because a person's metabolic rate does start to decline at around age 40. Those who've been "blessed" with a higher metabolism may actually face a higher risk of developing diabetes and other ailments associated with obesity (such as high cholesterol) because they never had to learn to control their eating habits. Fate does have a wicked sense of humor after all.
