- ‘Doctor Strange’ Eyes ‘Hannibal’ Star Mads Mikkelsen to Play Villain (EXCLUSIVE)
“Hannibal” star Mads Mikkelsen is in early talks to play one of the villains in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” opposite Benedict Cumberbatch, Variety has learned exclusively. While sources say no offer has been delivered, one is expected shortly. Marvel had no comment on Mikkelsen’s involvement.
Mikkelsen’s exact role remains under wraps, but sources say he will be another antagonist to Cumberbatch’s titular sorcerer.
Marvel has been interested in Mikkelsen for some time, at one point courting him for the villainous Malekith in “Thor: The Dark World,” until Mikkelsen won the role of the titular cannibal in NBC’s “Hannibal” and was no longer available. The Malekith role eventually went to Christopher Eccleston.
Interesting! He might've made a better Baron Mordo opposite Cumberbatch, but it'd be a shame to put facial hair on him. Those lizard lips are real assets. Dude just oozes slimey, skin crawling villain. He might make a good Nightmare.

- "Doctor Strange" Starts Production, Main Cast Confirmed
MARVEL’S “DOCTOR STRANGE” BEGINS PRODUCTION
Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams,
Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton Star in the
2016 Debut of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Next Super Hero
BURBANK, CALIF. (November 24, 2015)—Marvel Studios announced today that production has begun on “Doctor Strange,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch (“Black Mass,” “The Imitation Game”), Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave,” “The Martian”), Rachel McAdams (“Southpaw,” “Sherlock Holmes”) and Michael Stuhlbarg (“Steve Jobs,” “A Serious Man”) with Mads Mikkelsen (“Clash of the Titans,” “Casino Royale”) and Academy Award® winner Tilda Swinton (“Michael Clayton,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel”). The film, which opens in U.S. theaters on November 4, 2016, is directed by Scott Derrickson (“Sinister,” “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”). The film will be shot in several locations around the world, including London, New York, Hong Kong and Kathmandu, Nepal.
“Doctor Strange” follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.
“Doctor Strange” is the latest film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3’s goal—over the course of four years and nine films—is to introduce audiences to new heroes and continue the adventures of fan favorites.
Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” is produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Charles Newirth, Stephen Broussard and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.
Director Scott Derrickson’s creative team also includes director of photography Ben Davis, B.S.C. (Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”); production designer Charles Wood (Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”); costume designer Alexandra Byrne (Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”); editors Wyatt Smith (“Into the Woods,” Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World”) and Sabrina Plisco, ACE (“Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium,” “Charlotte’s Web”); and visuals effects supervisor Stephane Ceretti (Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”).
Based on the Marvel comic character who first appeared in “Strange Tales” Issue 110 published in July 1963, Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures chronicled in Marvel’s “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Ant-Man” and the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War,” (May 6, 2016), “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” (May 5, 2017) and “Thor: Ragnarok” (November 3, 2017).
Blah, blah, blah.

- 'The Martian' Actor Nabs Key 'Doctor Strange' Role (Exclusive)
Doctor Strange has found his manservant.
Benedict Wong has been cast as Wong, the good doctor’s trusty sidekick in Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
Benedict Cumberbatch is starring as Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme in the movie that currently is in production and heading toward a Nov. 4 release date.
Wong, the character, is a Marvel mainstay, having been around since the 1960s. He performs healing duties, assists in occult matters, is knowledgeable in martial arts and tends to Strange’s affairs. Among his functions is to look after Strange’s body when the hero is astral projecting himself into other dimensional planes.
A guy named Wong playing Wong is fun. Not sure he fits the physical profile, but we'll see.

- Doctor Strange - Trailer World Premiere [YouTube]
Pretty good! I'm enjoying the strong visual change of pace for Marvel movies. That said, it's got a bit of the Christopher Nolans about it. Batman Begins meets Inception. Some similar subject matter that he doesn't have ownership over, though, so can't hold that too hard against them.
Gonna have a tougher time accepting their versions of The Ancient One and Baron Mordo. The Ancient One will probably look more like Wong than Wong will. Strange decisions, but these are strange times, and it's a Strange movie.

- Is This Mads Mikkelsen's "Doctor Strange" Character?
According to a rumor from Heroic Hollywood, Mikkelsen -- whose role has been kept a secret -- is in fact playing Kaecilius in the film. Mikkelsen previously teased his character as "Not really a baddie, but someone who believes in something else than what Doctor Strange believes in."
HH previously indicated that Kaecilius would be the main villain in the film, though that's yet to be confirmed. In the comics, Kaecilius is a disciple of Baron Mordo who first appeared in Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's run on "Strange Tales." The character went on to appear in an issue of "Doctor Strange" by Roger Stern and Paul Smith in 1982. He hasn't shown up in a comic since.
Fair enough. Will always see Mikkelsen as a guy who could've done a good Nightmare.

- The Disney Infinity Doctor Strange figure the world will never get
This year, Disney Infinity would have gained itself a pretty cool-looking Doctor Strange figurine.
It won't now, of course, because Disney canned its toys-to-life franchise last month when it decided it wasn't making quite enough money.
Disney Infinity's demise took out developer Avalanche Software, too. Around 300 jobs were lost.
A detailed report at the time revealed mismanagement and inflated sales expectations behind the scenes at Disney.
Two years worth of unannounced content was scrapped - including this Doctor Strange figure, apparently, made in the handsome likeness of Benedict Cumberbatch.
I'd rather a classic comics version, but still a damn shame this won't go out. Probably really cool in the game, and a neat figurine!
