I come from a very gay friendly area (NYC), but I still see that kids will pick on kids from everything from their socioeconomic class, to their orientation, to their race, to their eyebrows, to their height, etc. A lot of gay people tend to go through a period where they feel like an unaccepted minority. I also was in highschool during the "I'm so cool because I'm bi" stage, but to say that "not even close" about people being bullied about their sexuality? That's a gross overstatement. Bullying still happens. Hate crimes still happen.

Nope. It's cool to be "Not normal" and "Weird". I didn't get along with a lot of people because I didn't have any "weird" or "not normal" things to talk about in my life.
I'd say this is in a matter of way of how you present yourself. If you're an alternative style person, who is still perfectly socially capable of handling a situation and hanging out with people, you'll be accepted. But I have seen so many kids in the dorms who are "awkward" and wind up just being labelled a "creep" that people avoid.

I've seen people be pressured to pick their "cool new friends" over their "lame old friends" many times. Yes, cheerleaders and band geeks can and do get along fine, but there are still awful people in the world who will act as if it is an impossibility.

I see this with my girlfriend's university. It's so weird, all of these kids are really wealthy, but for some reason they pretend to be poor kids from Brooklyn, and they're out there protesting Wall Street right now even though their parents are wealthy because of Wall Street. However, I disagree. I can't imagine a kid being like "haha I'm so poor that's so cool I don't even know where my next meal is coming from and my parents just lost their job" unless they're being a facetious hipster. Being disadvantaged is never cool, and most people would not be proud of such a background. It's different if you're just some dumb hipster basically playing Halloween.

100% disagree. Do you go to a community college or something? I literally define my life as sex, drugs, and rock and roll, because all there is is partying, there's plenty of horny good looking college students trying to get off, and I'm going to plenty of concerts and shows. The failing part, well I can tell you that I've seen a lot of people fail out, but not me.

When I was a young elementary school student, I used to watch this television show called DeGrassi and I thought it was the most ridiculous, over the top, dramatic phony representation of high school ever.
Then I got into high school, and I saw the kids with eating disorders, I saw the pregnant girls, I saw the kids who were getting their heads blown out during a robbery, I saw the suicides, I saw the teacher dating students scandals, I saw the kids getting lost in drugs, I saw everything that I thought was a false representation of real life.
I'd say stereotypes stick around because they're based somewhat on truth, but everybody is going to go through different experiences in life. Just because you haven't seen something doesn't mean it's not true for somebody else.
