Dear god, what have i done?......

Alas but you cannot inspire them to look outside their own. Maybe one day someone might know you. But it is best to keep those thoughts in your head. Accept them as facts that cannot be changed. If only I could follow my own advice.

You take your self entirely way to seriously. I think along the same lines as you. But remember all this seiousness and everything else. The good, the bad, the old, the new, the dead, the living the tragedys the miracles the awes and wonder power and weakness. The glory the shame etc. etc. etc. It is all a joke. You can commit the most heinous of acts...and do it with a smile. Seriously lighten up and stop worrying about beeing serious. Deep thinker and all but the end result is for naught. Tho I'm sure you already know this.

Your first bit of advice is very true, and from experience they never will look outside their own minds. As for keeping the thoughts in, i am getting them out for my own sake. It is there for others if they want, but mainly for myself.

As for the second part, you are right. I do take myself to seriously. I do try to let go, to lighten up, but i get lost in my own mind. But i can promise that i am trying.

Or whatever the percentage is.

Okey dokie...

Well you are basically being asked this:

I have a number. I find 40% of this number, and I get 15. What is the original number?

So basically, this is what the formula is saying.

15 = .40 x N

the . 40 means the same thing as the 40%, and N is just a letter that is used to represent that number we are trying to find. All that happened is that the words were put into an equation.

Because we know that 15 = 0.4 x N, we must modify that equation to get the N by itself, so that we can find out what it equals.

So, what you were showed is that it was divided by 0.4.

A rule is that any number divided by that same number is equal to 1. That also includes decimal numbers.

So basically, you were showed how to make 40% (or 0.4) equal to 100% (or 1). So now on that side of the equation you have 1 x N, which is just another way of writing that number we were trying to find at the beginning.

Now, see on the left side of the equation, you were shown that the 15 is also divided by 0.40. Do you know that rule that whatever you do to one side of an equation, you must do to the other? Well, basically, that is what just happened.

So you divided the right side by 40%, now you are doing the same to the left side.

So you have 15 divided by 0.4, which is equal to 37.5.

So in maths terms, that is...

15 = 0.40 x N

Then both sides were divided by 0.40 to get the N by itself

15 divided by 0.40 = N

15 divided by 0.40 on your calculator will give you 37.5

So that means that the number represented by N is 37.5.

To double check, just substitute back into the original equation.

Just go through that same process with all equations you have to do, and you should be sweet.

I would say cross multiply for the 88% of 70 part.
X/70 x 80/100

100x = 6160

x = 61.6

so 61.6 or 62 if you round it off would be 88% of 70. I guess it makes sense =/

Okay then...

Use what Megababe wrote.

The formula would be N/70 x 88/100.

The working would go something like...

100 x N = 70 x 88

100N = 6160

N = 6160 / 100

N = 61.6

If the question asks to round your answer, do so accordingly.

And I am not getting angry at you, dont worry about it tongue. I just didn't understand the question that you were asking me, but I just figured it out from Megababe. No big...

Wait...

this paper is 40 problems, I have done 20 of them. Those ones were ones that used a different formula, but I can show you an example of them, 'cause this is basically what I have to do to each of the problems:
(remember, these have a different formula and so I could fugre this one out)
Problem 1. How much is 19% of 45?

Ok, I would put above it this:

N= .19 x 45

That would be the formula.

The problem finished would like:

-spce-N= .19 x 45
1. How much is 19% of 70? 8.55

I think I get you, probably not though. tongue

Anyway, I will take the example of 19% and 45.

So basically, N = 0.19 x 45

All you do is enter that into your calculator and you should get a result.
