Right now, this site is the shit for most people. To me, it's just something to keep me occupied before class time with all the different games on there.

Unfortunately, I'm going to either get rid of it completely, or just delete all the people I don't really care for and just keep the essentials on as soon as I'm don with college.

Because let's face it, that site is literally nothing to you after college right? The only thing that you can do is literally stalk your friends' every movement, know what house to rob if they have that app that lets you know where they're at, or what kind of parties they like to go to with the hundred picture upload they do after a good night of fucking.

Really, is there a point to this site anymore when you're done with college? You have to at least have it during your high school and somewhat college years because how are you going to keep in touch with your friends? (in a way)

I'm mostly going to delete it altogether, if i somehow have to move for a job or somewhat, I'll probably re-activate my account just to keep in touch with the family. Yes, both my parents and my brother has Facebook.

So, what do you guys really do with this site? That is if you even have an account.

I talk to friends and play amusing games. Isn't that what all these social networking sites are for? I'll keep it around because my friends and I are constantly going places, so when we leave for college I'll want to talk to them. After college I'll want to talk to my college friends. It's just a communication site when you come down to it. Besides, it's doesn't NEED a purpose, it's the INTERNET

Meh, when it comes to some of the people I've seen and befriended on Facebook, it makes me wonder why I need to really care about their "FML" issues or the constant relationship changes.

I mean, my boyfriend and I have been dating each other for more than a year now but I don't need to specify really to anyone on that site that I'm taken. A picture alone can do the talking. But everyone has to literally post that they're in a relationship, it's complicated, widowed, single, married, engaged to... It's literally annoying to see the same girl change her relationship status every other day because she goes through guys like tissue.

The site, for me, has personally gotten ruined by the fact that people need to share their life long stories. Not to mention, instead of helping poor Bill Nye, everyone just tweeted and updated their status, rather than helping and yes this was a true story.

Also, the kid that got killed a Notre Dame, my boyfriend even knew the guy very well and was devastated more over the fact that instead of updating your status on Facebook and Tweeting on Twitter, ya should have climbed down.

It's literally to a point where I have no idea why I still have it. I mean yeah I update things here and there and I like to talk to my friends since I'm away at school, but personally people don't understand that its a site that was made by a Harvard dropout... it's just a social network not "I have to tell everyone my life story and please feel sorry for me, despite I know that 900 of my 1,290 friends could give a shit."

Oye.

So people useit as an outlet? Is that really so wrong? People have things they want to say, so they say it. If anyone cares, they'll talk to them about it, if not, big whoop. If you don't like it, hide them. Don't get me wrong, I'm not convincing you to keep it, just saying that these are all things the website was made for. If that's your problem with it, then leave. It's not like you can make them stop, millions of people do it every day.

Oh of course there's no telling every single person that they need to stop flooding Facebook with FML stories, but I feel some of them are literally taking it to a point where they're telling people too much personal stuff that at times I have a hard time understanding exactly why you would say such a thing like that out loud and in public.

Someone I know continues to blab out that she was raped when she was little... I know that not too many people enjoy seeing things like that as a status because it's just so... un-comforting to know that it A.) Happened, B.) It's made like it's meant for gossiping and C.) She's fine to just randomly remind people that she was raped.

This is why I feel that the site is literally just a tool to continue sharing gossip that really isn't necessary to share back and forth when it was really designed to just let your friends know what you're up to, share some pictures of yourself and enjoy gathering more and more friends. But the site has caused so many robberies to happen, cyberbullying and just other shenanigans that really, it's a waste of a site to be honest.

Of course, these are just from the people that I've got as friends as well as reading articles on Yahoo and such. With your friends and to other users here, it might be all different. But I'm stuck in a crowd where literally it's nothing but high school drama llama action going on when we're all in college now.

It's fine if people want to post their personal stuff out, but it shouldn't be THAT personal, you know? I don't want to be reminded how you were raped by your uncle and such, no, that's something that should be kept quiet and to yourself, not something where it's needed to be told out loud.

That's just wrong.

It's a tool to keep in touch with friends. All of your friends have a phone, so you get a phone. All of your friends use AIM so you get AIM. All of your friends get facebook, so you get facebook. If you don't want to keep in touch with your friends, then you aren't a good friend or you're friends with the wrong people.

I agree. Some people are annoying on facebook with all of their updates. There's always the option to hide status updates from these people. But I don't do that. If you're someone I don't want to see what they're saying, then you're someone I don't bother to be friends with on facebook and I delete you.

The photos is my favourite part. It's an easy way to create a timeline of your life.

If facebook is causing you stress, either change your attitude or get rid of it.

Pretty much. Well aside from the "you're doing it wrong part."

But yeah in essence IceBaby, it is what you make it. Personally it serves as a way to keep in touch with people from high school and college (or whatever social circles) that you don't quite interact with daily but still have a desire to talk to at some level. Or at the very least, provide some random type of entertainment via humorous status update, picture, or whatever.

I never got into the app's and games or the constant status update aspect and usually dont add/keep people that go off on rants or post annoying shit. Chances are, we weren't really friends to begin with.

But yeah, if it's stressing you out just clean out some friends or delete it. If later down the road your interest is renewed you can always go back.

To me, I try to make it to where I want to still stay in contact with the friends I've made with in high school. And this goes to what Vash said:

Believe me, I've been making a lot more new friends than the ones I've had since high school. College changed the ones i grew up with, and what's the point in keeping in contact with people who are just still immature over some measly little site?

Believe me, Facebook is fun, it really depends on what I'm going to do after college with it. I might have it still around and just delete a good number of those I don't want as friends on there, or I seriously might take my bf's advice and just delete it altogether. There's really no point to it after college, in my perspective because well, I can easily get in touch with my friends via texting.

It's basically got to a point where I was gone for a few days without updating anything and some friends were freaking out. Then I read a few articles about telling people too much information about yourself can lead you in a heap of trouble. I don't like it when people are taking that site seriously to where they think something is wrong if I don't update here and there. It's not a chore I do every day it's just something I like to be on for five minutes...

Amazing to see how this site is like turning into the number one cause of house robberies due to apps. I myself too enjoy posting pictures up. But even that gets abused by people who think that they're so cool because underage drinking is like so awesome that eeeeeevvvvvvveeeeeerrrrrryyyyyoooooonnnneeeeee of their pictures are nothing but booze booze, I gotta pop my boobs out to make them look like I got big ones, and more booze. I take pictures of myself, with me and my boyfriend, my artwork and other random things, but they all started to take the fun out of posting pictures.

If I'm not sticking my chest out, no one will look at anything on my page. But I'm not letting what other people do ruin my fun. Because it's a site that I'm not going to let it be so serious. I just use it because I'm away at school.

The whole idea of facebook in the first place was to keep in touch with friends you. Maybe you drifted apart after high school and are curious what there up to ( new house, job, etc). That was in essence what facebook was supposed to be for IMO. But with so many immature people on it with these stupid games going around lately I can see where your coming from Icebaby. I mean you see stories on the news now and again about people bullying others on facebook, or posting pics of crimes. There really isn't a lot of option for blocking people on the site aside from either not being friends with with them, or maybe adding a filter to block their posts (or at least specific app posts).

So yeah, sounds like you're more annoyed with what your friends do on/with facebook than the site itself. It's really not that serious and I've never remotely had any of the problems you've described (granted I'm a bit older than you). Again if you want to cancel your account as opposed to deal with the weird overreacting friends you've seemed to have amassed then just do it. You can come back at any time if you decide to come back at all. Also if I'm hearing you right...some of this sounds like you're judging the way other people use facebook which again, has nothing to do with facebook and everything to do with you.
But...just to be clear:

1. People thinking something is physically wrong with you because you don't send a status update every 6 mins = you have some fucked up friends.

2. People posting extremely personal information regarding relationships, traumatic experiences, etc. = you have some fucked up friends.

3. People obsessively nagging you to play farmville and get angry if you dont (or whatever fotm game is popular) = you have some fucked up friends.

4. People installing/updating app's and status updates OR adding friends that could potentially fucking rob them...and not realizing it = you have some fucked up friends.

See the pattern?

I personally don't use it. That's just my preference though, and mostly just because I have no desire at this time to keep in touch with people that I don't already keep in touch with other ways. But I can see the obvious value in it; social networking is the norm now, it's like having someone's phone number was in years gone by. It's very common place outside of college now.

The apps on the site are the only reasons why I'm keeping my account, well one of the reasons. The main one is to keep in contact with my family and my bf. Believe me, these people who I do know are pretty messed up. But it's not just them. I've seen other people's facebook pages as well, friends of mine that feels like showing me something. I see some pretty fucked up things on theirs and it just amazes me that they do such a thing.

I've just seen a male stripper swinging his dick-in-the-thong in a face of a person who's my age... And I'm like stunned because I actually know the person and I never thought that this person would be like that. I mean the site shows a whole another side to you that we've never seen before, and that's like amazing to see.

It's just interesting to see this site do amazing things towards people you thought you knew but unfortunately you don't. It's like Jackal and Hyde.

The whole internet is like that when you get down to it.

People act different when they feel as though they're not being watched. Now obviously thats not quite the case on Facebook but I think people have a tendency to feel that way on it(anonymous) never the less. It's just not the same as saying those things in "real life". People for the most part don't feel the same amount of accountability online. Even on a site like Facebook.

Yeah I never got sucked up in facebook. I use a phone to keep in touch with my friends. Texting and calling is all you really need.

Facebook, to me, seems like something for people who have graduated from high school. I see my friends all the time, but that could change when we start heading off to different colleges and different parts of the country. Which is why I think facebook is really useful for people in college.
