Yeah I never got sucked up in facebook. I use a phone to keep in touch with my friends. Texting and calling is all you really need.
Facebook, to me, seems like something for people who have graduated from high school. I see my friends all the time, but that could change when we start heading off to different colleges and different parts of the country. Which is why I think facebook is really useful for people in college.

Woah, you're 17???
I'm impressed. You're an extremely thoughtful, mature guy. For any age but especially for 17.

Facebook just for college?
I dont think so mate. I have all my work mates on it and we use it to keep in touch and organise gatherings and shit. It still has some uses, infact i use it more now than i did when i was at Uni (college).

People act different when they feel as though they're not being watched. Now obviously thats not quite the case on Facebook but I think people have a tendency to feel that way on it(anonymous) never the less. It's just not the same as saying those things in "real life". People for the most part don't feel the same amount of accountability online. Even on a site like Facebook.

The apps on the site are the only reasons why I'm keeping my account, well one of the reasons. The main one is to keep in contact with my family and my bf. Believe me, these people who I do know are pretty messed up. But it's not just them. I've seen other people's facebook pages as well, friends of mine that feels like showing me something. I see some pretty fucked up things on theirs and it just amazes me that they do such a thing.
I've just seen a male stripper swinging his dick-in-the-thong in a face of a person who's my age... And I'm like stunned because I actually know the person and I never thought that this person would be like that. I mean the site shows a whole another side to you that we've never seen before, and that's like amazing to see.
It's just interesting to see this site do amazing things towards people you thought you knew but unfortunately you don't. It's like Jackal and Hyde.

So yeah, sounds like you're more annoyed with what your friends do on/with facebook than the site itself. It's really not that serious and I've never remotely had any of the problems you've described (granted I'm a bit older than you). Again if you want to cancel your account as opposed to deal with the weird overreacting friends you've seemed to have amassed then just do it. You can come back at any time if you decide to come back at all. Also if I'm hearing you right...some of this sounds like you're judging the way other people use facebook which again, has nothing to do with facebook and everything to do with you.
But...just to be clear:
1. People thinking something is physically wrong with you because you don't send a status update every 6 mins = you have some fucked up friends.
2. People posting extremely personal information regarding relationships, traumatic experiences, etc. = you have some fucked up friends.
3. People obsessively nagging you to play farmville and get angry if you dont (or whatever fotm game is popular) = you have some fucked up friends.
4. People installing/updating app's and status updates OR adding friends that could potentially fucking rob them...and not realizing it = you have some fucked up friends.
See the pattern?

Believe me, i was well aware of that when i got into Facebook. No one acts like themselves when they're not saying all this shit personally.

Yup. Then I guess you already know text messaging is the same way as the net. That's why both are a constant source of drama, seemingly.

I plead the Fizzith!
I have a Faceboo and I'm friends with people that I go to school with and my family. Of all those people, only a few I actually talk to.
I prefer Twitter because I don't have to deal with all those people thinking something is wrong with you(and commenting everything) if you post one status update. Also because I can really act like myself and don't have 'pose' on FB.
Fun Fact: I have 2 Twitters, One MK Twitter (I'm a kombatant) and my personal.

I'd just be weary of friends if I were you.
On a semi-related note, is there a current "link your Facebook" thread on this site, or something like it?

lol.
I use facebook to keep in touch with friends. I only have 77-80 people added at a time, sometimes I even get 82. I add people I care about keeping contact with, and I friend people who I don't care about, and then unadd after a week.
That, or it's a family member, in which case, a month's wait is needed.
Facebook is intended to keep in touch with people and to let others know about what's going on with you, and that's what it's used for. If you don't want to listen to everyone talking about their issues, you can hide their posts. That, or you can ignore them. No one is forcing you to read them.

As far as I am concerned Facebook is nothing more than a phase. It will go away or fade into the distance when the next new and hip internet thing comes up. To be honest Facebook just seems like an easy way to occupy bored teenagers time. They say that this thing is going to replace texting, I text my pals meaningful things that have relevent information in them, Facebook you see things like "Liam likes toothpaste" hm yeah because we really care. For example I was sitting next to a guy in my claas, I was completing my work, while this other guy was lagging way behind because he was on Facebook...Posting what he ate for lunch...Jesus Christ. And people follow stuff like "Barney the Dinosaur" the only reason they follow sh*t like that is because it's childish and it is the college thing to do. Anyway the whole thing irritates me.
Facebook for me is good cos it helps me get in touch with people with out spending to much money on the phone bills and i can use it to sorta advertise myself for free so i can work as well as take up spare time. But I hate it how some people seem to think its a therapist, and add random people then never talk to them or spoil movies
