- Scarlett Johansson to Star in DreamWorks' 'Ghost in the Shell'

After proving herself as a formidable action lead in the hit Lucy, Scarlett Johansson is ready to tackle DreamWorks' Ghost in the Shell.

The actress has signed on to star in the anime-based, live-action thriller, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) will direct from a script written by Bill Wheeler.

I'm sure a lot of people are very high on the idea of Scarlett Johansson doing more jumping and flipping after Avengers, but can this really end well? I suppose we'll see...

I was trying to get into this show years ago but just stopped having an interest for it. Although I will say, I don't think Scarlett should be in the movie. I'm not a fan of hers. I'd rather see someone else, despite that I have no idea who I would replace.

But if she can pull it off, congrats to her.

- Scarlett Johansson’s ‘Ghost in the Shell’ Set For 2017

With Scarlett Johansson now attached to star, DreamWorks Pictures’ live-action Ghost in the Shell finally has a release date: Disney announced the Rupert Sanders adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s cyberpunk manga will land in theaters on April 14, 2017.

Debuting in 1989, Ghost in the Shell centers on Public Security Section 9, a counter-cyberterrorist organization in near-future Japan led by Major Motoko Kusanagi. The manga inspired animated films, video games and an animated television series.

Strange choice of the lead for this movie.
I believe, it will end up being "in name" only adaption.
