I'd have to agree. Actually talking to someone face to face is a dynamic process with many nuances that can be used to guage the effect of the conversation and steer it in the intended direction. In an e-mail, in the end it's ultimately just zeros and ones.

Bottom line is, telling someone you're in love with them is, at its very core, an emotional act. An e-mail is just words; she can't look into your eyes and read your emotions, see your sincerity, from an e-mail.

From reading your other posts, and I may be completely wrong, but you sound like a guy who's having a hard time transitioning from "highschool life" to real life. I do not say that as an insult either, it happens to the best of us.

You said yourself that if you don't tell her quick she'll go off to college and it'll be over, but have you come to terms with the fact that YOU have the same oppertunity. YOU could go off as well and meet some girl/s. Even if you don't go to college YOU have all the oppertunity in the world for a long time to meet chicks as well.

I say if you are not going to the same college as this chick then leave her be and go find other chicks that are easier to see. Besides college students have very limited social lives depending on how focused they are. If she is going to a college close to home, or you are going to the same college as her, then pursue away.

If not then forget it and find another chick. I would be very suprised if you could pull it off.
