GTA IV is excellent.

Saints row 2 is a laugh to play (in a good way) and has plenty to do with its unlockables and activitys but its story is easily completable with in a dedicated day.

Grand theft auto takes it self very seriously and has maybe one funny scene it has a lack of things to do and besides the main story theres not much of anything else some minigames you'd get are taxi and cop stuff like that.

I have them both and i enjoyed Saints row 2 alot more so if you want my opinion it is that Saints row 2 is better.

I've only played GTA IV so I'm sure my opinion shouldn't really matter.

The multiplayer is so much fun. Especially the free roaming matches, where you can just play freely with other friends. It's a blast.

But like I said, I haven't play SR 2, so my opinion isn't all that great. I hope more give their opinions for you man.

Let me start by saying that GTA IV is not like the previous games. The humor is completely taken out of the game and added with a serious tone. Takes alot away from the game in my opinion.

The only thing I prefer from GTA IV over Saints Row 2 is the fact that you can free-roam with up to 16 people. Saints Row 2 features a 2 player co-op instead. It also has a matchmaking system with game like TDM among others but there is no free-roam of the city with many people online.

GTA IV tried to be too realistic. Saints Row 2 keeps up with the humor that the first game. Saints Row 2 is not afraid to be crazy where as GTA IV seems to have ditched all of the humor that San Andreas had.

The Driving and controls in Saints Row 2 seemed much smoother to me also. I could sit there and speed and slam on the brakes and still make my turn while looking like a badass. GTA IV is yet again.... to realistic with this. I would have to stay at a speed and actually plan on when to hit the breaks, where in Saints Row there is really not much though involved. The controls otherwise seem easier for me too in Saints Row. RB (on 360) seems like a much more convenient running button than A, since my hand is already going to be near the trigger. That way I can run and pan the camera around at the same time. I could do it with the GTA IV controls too but it just is easier in Saints Row.

I feel that the story of Saints Row makes you character himself/herself seem like more of a badass in general. You lead a god damn gang for christ sake. The GTA IV story is no where near as good as the San Andreas story about CJ.

Saints Row allows for much more customization of your character than GTA does. From customizing the bones in your characters face and body (with the use of typical sliders of course) to picking the colors you want for the clothing you are buying (out of MANY colors)... the customizing never really ends. Save outfits to your wardrobe so you can switch real quick with no hassle in case you feel like switching from your jeans and t-shirt to a pimp suit or deep sea diving suit. GTA IV allows for the buying of things in set colors and to be honest... I am not sure if it is just the graphics of the game but the clothing I could customize with never appealed to me. I kinda just bought jeans at the start and was good to go. The color options for customizing your car is ridiculously vast in Saints Row as well. GTA IV allows you to go to "Pay 'N Spray" which randomly selects a color for you... so you can keep on trying until you get that color you want.

GTA IV in my opinion, is only good for playing the free-roam mode with 5+ people. The whole city to a group of 3 people gets boring fast seeing as how you are either all spread out, just fighting cops or killing each other. The whole fun of the free roam is the chaos of many players doing crazy things.

Saints Row 2 Co-op is just 2 players but is crazy fun. Sure you could say what I said before about GTA IV free roam with only 3 people but the fact that you can do all of the missions from the game's main story, activites, kill zombies in "Zombie uprising", and cause even more chaos than GTA IV free roam makes it worth it.

Overall I think Saints Row 2 is a much better game. I know it may seem like a lot of hate from me on GTA IV up there in my post but the game wasn't horrible. It was just horrible in comparison to Saints Row 2. With "Saints Row: The Third" coming out I would highly recommend picking it up to learn more about the story if you plan on getting "Saints Row: The Third". The game is filled with a decent number of references to the first game so you can also pick that up and play it to make your experience even more enjoyable.

^That right there, is totally biased. The one you're referring too is "Septic Avenger" and it's an Activity, not a mission. Get it right before bashing the game. Who gives a shit about Graphics? Gameplay matters most than Graphics. There's like 20-40 Missions in each Gang Story arc, and 30-40 Activities scattered across the map, and you call it repetitive and boring? Jesus f'ing Christ. It ticks me off when people say it's a "GTA IV wannabe!" I'm done posting for the night. Peace

well..you can't.... and i own BOTH....so you can say what you want...but GTA sells more for a reason....and i don't care if it's a mission or an activity...it was still pretty wack

Saints Row series is ALWAYS whacky! That's a key element. It's like taking away Zelda from The Legend of Zelda or Mushrooms from Mario

If you want realism, get GTA IV

If you want crazy funniness with lots of customization, get Saints Row 2.


I think both games are great, so it really comes down to which style you prefer.

I love GTA IV. I have alot of hours of play time put into that game, if you have a couple of buddys then you can have alot of fun with that game online.

Saints Row 2 also over doubles the amount of weapons that GTA IV has. There as many melee weapons in Saints Row as there are total weapons in GTA.

There is not much replay value and extra stuff to do in GTA IV once you beat it unless you want to load up another save just to do the other set of missions at the end. So you can have like an extra hour of replay time where in Saints Row you will have all the activities to do, all the tags to spray, all the CD's to find, all the jumps to hit, etc.

Sorry if other people don't feel this way but I actually like to be interested in playing a game after I beat the main story... GTA IV does not provide that other than the online.

Ooooh this is tough one because I really love both games. I grew up playing Grand Theft Auto and when I first got my hands on Saints Row I thought it was as much fun as GTA IV so I can't really choose one. But If you like multiplayer games that have a big party system and has free roam go with GTA IV. Story wise I would go with Saints Row 2.

Is Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City out of option? It's basically two AAA expansions in one disc with more fun and craziness (parachutes, MC clubs, etc.) than in GTA IV yet still staying in the same atmosphere. It should be cheaper, too.

And it also featured better characters. Most of the time in GTA IV, you feel like you're in some gangster-styled Borat movie or something.

Saints Row 2 but avoid the DLC because they aint worth money but of you get GTA IV then get Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition because that has all DLC as well main game.

GTA has better story, radio station, gun control and online play but Saints Row has better replay, customization, weapons and side missons.

I'm leaning towards SR2 but you cant go wrong with GTA4.

Better idea would be get GTA4 then get saints row the third when it comes out

I prefer the music in Saints Row 2 to be honest. And the fact that I can buy the songs from any station and compile them into my own station is that much more awesome.

I have both. Only thing I liked in GTA IV Episodes from Liberty City was The Ballad of Gay Tony and that Motorcycle gang one(forgot the name, "Lost of the Damned?")

Saints Row has more to do after the main storyline. As I said in one of my other posts, you can do activities, find all of the hidden CD's, all of the hidden tags, all of the hidden jumps, etc. In GTA you can kinda just go bowling and do a few other things like taxi and the usual stuff that is also included in saints row.

@Espio There is ALOT of stuff to do before and after completing the game. Activities, Hidden CD's, Hidden Tags,Diversions etc. And plenty of different other stuff to do I would play with you if you get it
