The new one that comes with the 100 final fantasy, claims that it will may slow down loading times.

My source is the april issue of PSM magazine, the same one with subzero on the cover.

It sais yet another reason the ps2 is advancing, or something like that.

Hell, i could care less about final fantasy, but slowing down loading times? Where do I sign up ? LOL.

No kidding. The Playstation 2 loading system is slow enough. How much more slowing it even more -_-' ...

Um it speeds up loading times, makes loading times shorter, just setting the record straight.

Hmm, some games like Guilty Gear X2 don't need faster loading times. Man, the loading times in Enter The Matrix and Max Payne 2 are crap! This HDD thing better help the loading times, because the PS2 needs it.

I pretty much knew what you meant (hence, the "lol"). I'm curious as to how this works on games not programmed to take advantage of the HDD to cache ram, since that's what speeds up the loading...

As someone who works in the PC business. Ill apply what i know to this situation.
Its only going to speed up load times for games that are going to store info on the HDD. Dont expect your old games to load faster. . I dont know much about this PS HDD so i could very well be wrong. But Id say Im making a pretty good guess

I'm sure thats what it means when it says that the load time will be speed up. There is no way for current games that aren't programmed to use it, to take advantage of the HDD to speed up load time, only future games. Since the PS2 is already being pushed to the limit Sony pretty much needed it. FF XI needs it, thats why FF XI is so late comming out. It also would surprose me if Syphon Filter, and Gran Turismo 4 requires it either.

But Kabal, what if the hdd manipulates the playstation 2 into making load times better?

Never mind, every day im very thankfull that Ive had the playstation since 2001, im not regreting that I skipped the x-box one bit.

Because, as far as I can tell, that's impossible. A game won't use the HDD unless it's programmed to do so.

My thoughs exactly...aslo I though I read it a year or so ago in one of the game mags when they first reported on it.

But Outworld222 could be right as well. They might be able to trick the proccessor to load data to the HDD rather than from memory. Maybe something like the DVD remote where it has the program data stored on a memeory card for how the should work and funtion. I just haven't heard that though.

I just could have sworn that I heard that only games programmed to take advantage of HDD will be able to use it. I hightly doubt that they will be able to get GTA 3 & Vice City to run like it does on Xbox anyway even if they do. Reports on the Japanese HDD said that there in't a noticible difference in load time.
