One of my friends has recently come out to me as gay. It didnt really surprise me, as he's a good looking lad, but never seems to have a girlfriend or speak about girls. I'm personally not bothered, I suppose I'm more accepting as one of my uncles is gay so Ive been brought up knowing about homosexuality so I dont really see it as a big deal, though I am straight. However, he also told another one of our friends, and he hasnt been anywhere near as nice. He actually told him not to speak to him again and called him all sorts of things.

So. Whats your view on homosexuality?

While I don't believe your friend is correct in acting out against the gay friend, I do not believe homosexuality is a naturally ocurring event and is therefore wrong. Specifically, as a Christian, I believe it is wrong because it is stated as being wrong in the Bible. Without using my moral beliefs as a basis for the argument, however, I believe it is NATURALLY wrong because it does not add to the procreation of a species.

It doesn't bother me at all. As long as I don't view any sexual things that they do. Otherwise, I'm not a homophobic person, or have any hate directed towards them. Most people who are homophobic either feel that they may be seen by outsiders as "gay" if they speak to a gay person of befriend one. Seems to me that most homophobes are afraid that people may find out that they are secretly gay themselves. It's a weird thing, and some people are afraid of just not being masculine, or afraid of all things feminine.

Yes, I know, it's a sin to "lie with another man" in the Bible. I have no objection to that, and I feel that gays should just either stay in the closet or consult a psychiatrist, because the homosexuality problem is either a genetic or mental problem.

I have no problem with homosexual males or females. However though when I was younger I did. My parents raised me very religiously to believe that homosexuals would be damned to Hell and things of that nature. And it wasn't until my two older brothers both came out was it that I embraced the homosexual lifestyle. I say lifestyle very loosely because as I'm sure as many of you know its not a way that only homosexuals live.

I was forced to confront the myths that pertain to homosexuality. Such as gay males are all premiscuous and feminine. That couldn't be the furthest from the truth. My best friend Marcus is a very straight acting gay male and has been in a long term relationship of six years with his straight acting boyfriend Tommy. Not to say that some gay males aren't like that. I'm very aware. But the percentage of heterosexual males and females who are premiscuous may surprise you.

I lost both of my brothers to gaybashings. The men who killed my eldest brother did it because they believe that homosexuality is wrong. Now I will agree that homosexuality is a sin according to the old testament. But since Jesus himself did not once say that homosexuality is wrong, then I will not believe that he does not love and accept homosexual males and females. My second brother was murdered by a group of men who claimed that he was hitting on them. I don't believe that. Mostly because my brother was so painfully shy that he would never do that, especially to a group of men he didn't know.

I believe homosexuals are not a nuisance to our society nor are deviants to the normallacy that this society tries to sustain. They're like everyone else, and while stereotypes do exist, many of them aren't in as large of numbers as you'd suspect.

I understand alot of peoples views on Homosexuality are based on the Bible. I am a Christian myself, but I disagree with alot of things which are said in the Old Testament, alot of views in it are sexist and sometimes absurd.

I believe that everyone should be treated equally. If God thought that homosexuality is wrong, then why would he make homosexual people? So that biggots would have someone to hate?

As well as God is meant to be all-loving. If he is not, then to be honest I don't want to worship him.

Saying this, I don't want to seem like I am knocking your views. They are what you believe in and I am no one to say that you are wrong.

I agree with this 100%. A lot of people seem to act like it's a choice one has to make...It's not. People get no say-so in this matter. Homosexual Males/Females are born that way, they don't just wake up one morning and decide "HEY! I know what I'm gonna do...I'm gonna turn around and choose to be something that most closed-minded people hate, and live out the rest of my life fearing that someone will find out and I'll get beaten or worse for it....yeah that sounds like a plan." Pink_Ranger, I am very sorry to hear that such horrible things happened to your brothers, and for no reason. sad

I used to be a homophobe, mainly because pretty much everyone I knew said anyone or anything they didn't like was gay. Than a few years ago I found out one of my friends was a lesbian, and she influenced me to really open my mind on the subject. Now I believe there's nothing morally wrong with homosexuality (I'm agnostic, so what the bible says isn't an issue for me); in fact, from what I've read there's nothing naturally wrong with it either. Hundreds of animal species have been observed in homosexual behavior, including man's closest genetic relative, the pygmy chimp, or bonobo. Actually, every bonobo eveer observed by scientists has been bisexual. Anyway, the abundance of homosexuality in the animal kingdom suggests that there is an evolutionary purpose for it to exist. Perhaps, particularly in the case of humans, it's a method of population control; the human population on earth is over 6 billion, and its maximum capacity for humans is estimated to be about 14 billion. That may not be as far off in the future as it sounds, since the larger the population, the faster it grows.

Anyway, I believe gays deserve to be respected as human beings, and that they deserve the same rights straight people have, including the right to marry; however, I don't think churches should be forced to perform gay marriage ceremonies if they believe it's wrong.

Um, no. We are not having this discussion. It's already brought religious references into the discussion, which is banned, and I'm not risking debates on it with the chance someone gets offended and this turns into a flame war.
