How do you use cheats on a mk mame game?

I was trying to get ermac on umk3 on the mame but couldn't because I don't know how to use cheats on there.

im guessing it would be the same way as on the arcade, look up cheats for umk3 on the arcade and then you should have the answers you seek, or i could go find out my bradly umk3 arcade book and tell you but i cant be bothered at this time of night.
