How Much a Dollar Cost?

posted05/30/2015 01:23 PM (UTC)bySo a couple nights ago I took my girlfriend out to dinner. We had a good awesome meal. So as we were leaving the restaurant, a homeless man asked us for some change, I smelled straight alcohol on his clothes so I said "Nope." with no hesitation and we kept it moving. So as we went inside the car, I set up my phone on the AUX Cord and continued shuffling my playlist.
JUST As I was driving, the song "How Much a Dollar Cost?" By Kendrick Lamar came on (Great song by the way, if you haven't heard it i strongly recommend you do. even if you arent a fan of Hip-Hop.) and as I was listening to the song I just kept feeling worse and worse as the story progressed.
In my feelings I decided to go back and buy the man a meal. He wasn't there anymore. He wasn't anywhere in the area and its only been like 7 minutes. And when the song came to an end I just felt like a shitty person. If I could go back and change everything I would.
Have you guys had anything similar happen to you? If so how did you handle that situation?

Not quite the same but when I was little (probably like 7 or 8) me, my parents, and my grandparents went to Myrtle beach for a few days and we were out in the evening doing stuff and I got hungry so we stopped at this concession stand like thing, hell it might have been a Sonic I really don't remember and we got our food and were outside eating at a table.
I then noticed these two old people walking around talking to people, they had raggedy clothes and were walking all slow and stuff, and I eventually overheard them asking people for money. So I kind of looked at my family and asked if we could give them money because I felt really bad for them, idk why because I didn't really understand what was wrong but I did, and I remember somebody saying no for whatever reason and I felt so bad, I don't remember what the reason was, maybe they were obvious fakers or something who knows, but I felt bad as hell for those people lol
Then my gramps gave me a little speech about how you cant just give money to every single person that asks because some people use it for things they don't need but its really great that I cared so much yadda yadda yadda lol
Its weird, I can visually picture the whole thing like it happened yesterday though, idk why that stuck with me but it has lol

Ill need 75 bucks wired to me by friday thanks. I work at a gas station and will get the occasional roof challenged guy or gal come in and ask for money. Since i do work at a gas station i don't really have much to give but Ill usually give em 5 bucks and a soda.I never hesitate to give what I can.
Who are you to decide what the homeless person will do with the money? That's retarded. If they want to spend them for alcohol and drugs and that's makes them happy why wouldn't you help them ? Like you don't use alcohol and drugs and you spend all your money for food. GTFO!

Well when i buy alcohol or "drugs", I see no problem with it because UH. I MADE the money. I put in 40 Hours a week to receive a paycheck. And I can do what I please with MY MONEY.
Why is it not wise to help someone homeless satisfy their vices?
Because They're -HOMELESS- You know -WITHOUT A HOME- I would feel a lot better for the person to buy something thats not alcohol or drugs. and to buy something that will help him survive for the day, week, year or what have you.

Dont matter what its for. Depending on your own situation, 5 or 10 bucks is not going to send you to the poor house, and break you. You cant do much with 5 or 10 bucks anyway so getting some cheap food would be a more logical choice for their own survival. If they dont, oh well. You cant save them all, thats for sure. Even multi millionaire Jim Cramer was piss poor homeless, after graduating from Law School, before he made it big in business.
