Being from New Orleans, I have had decent experience with hurricanes. The best thing I could've told you is to evacuate ahead of time. If not, just bunker down and hope you live, I guess.

So many people are in this storm's path on here, please be careful everyone and take care of yourselves and those close to you, stick close to everyone you care for during these tough times.

If the storm continues to weaken, the damage might be minuscule, that's something to hope for and if possible, I'd evacuate, like now.

The good news is that it's supposed to pass my area (Virginia Beach) by 8 pm.

The bad news is that it's going to get worse before it gets better. The winds aren't as severe as expected but are still ripping shit up and the rainfall is ridiculous. Thankfully though I still have power.

I used to live in the evacuation area part of where the storm will be severe on long island, NY.... luckily I recently moved to north of queens. I'm at a high elevation, but still in danger of a flood and still taking this very seriously as all of NY is being under strict precaution.

I had to work today because I work for emergency hospital services, finally made it home right at the start of the heavy rain. Irene is supposed to hit us at it's hardest throughout tonight. We might get a lot of property damage, trees falling, cars damaged or broken into, all sorts of crazy shit is bound to happen. And to top it all off I'm all alone
