Japanese friends.
The Japanese word for suicide IS Hara-kiri.
I'm just posting this to be able to hope that the game announcer in Deception won't say the wrong word. There is also another word, and that is Seppuku.

Seppuku is different, in seppuku there is a guard which cuts off your head when you can bear no more pain (from the wound that the knife caused you).

Seppuku was death in honor.

"Hara-kiri" is just plain suicide.

yeah, you are right, but even in seppuku, the first "move" is to stab oneself in the gut. And it does'nt have to be a gard, it could be a friend too, or something like that.

Ive also done a bit of research, and hara-kiri is also a known as a kind of "honorable" suicide the samurais used to do. It was usually if the emperor thought it was best for one of his samurais to die, for watever reason, they would set up a ceremony, in front of all his family and friends, and after a prayer he would stick a knife in his gut and drag it sideways. After that was done they would decapitate him and show the bloody dagger as proof to the emperor that he was dead. Otherwise, sometimes it would be done in private out of shame or guilt for something they did.

Harakiri is honorable suicide, in which usually, one commits suicide by self-impaling themselves.

Seppukku is ritualistic suicide. As the name implies, it is used in rituals and the like. I do not know the details of this, but I believe it starts out like Harakiri.

Starwinderbeta's Fact for the Topic: In Soul Calibur 2, when you do Yoshimitsu's suicide move (6[6]A+K), he says "Seppukku" right before he impales himself. Heh...

You're refering to Seppuku, not hara-kiri.

Yey,more people on the forum who got the spelling right! I mainly posted this, as previously mentioned, to hope that the announcer for Deception would not say hari-kari, since the word is Hara-kiri. Speaking about yoshimitsu, he must be about the most pain tolerant and hard to kill vido game character ever. I mean, he can impale himself with a sword, not a knife, and all he does is hurt for like 1 second, to then proceed to regenerate himself by sitting down and... well, herm, never mind. Weird.

How about we just have the game announcer say "HAHAHA YOU DEPRESSED LITTLE FREAK KILLED YOURSELF!!!!!!!"?

It settles all arguements, because we all can pronounce it.

Heh.
Or, we could make them have it say "What are you waiting for?!" (like in Scary Movie).

Yeah, that is it. And i don't think an announcer going: HAHAHAHA you pathetic shit you killed yourself! would work in the game. though it would have an effect of surprise...lol.
Anyway i'm glad to see i'm not the only one who knows the word is hara-kiri.

See for urself, i think its Encarta 99 or 97. Im not saying Encarta's right, im just saying I based that info on it's article. I would think that the discovery channel and all those other sites are right, so ill give you the benefit of the doubt.
Either way, I cant wait until they bring it out on MK6, finally i dont have to suffer the humiliation of being killed by an AI. grin

Hehe, i see what you mean. Btw, don't you think it is annoying to see the Cpu perform fatalities and whatnot in a second? I think it should be slightly delayed in Deception, otherwise players wont stand a chance to perform fatalities. Comments anyone?

Yeah, after i was done writing that i thought the exact same thing. It should be delayed, otherwise theres no way to give the common fighter a little dignity and perform the hara-kiri. sad

Umm, anyone ever heard of the American term Harry Karey? I believe it comes from the mispronunciation of hara kiri, but it is a saying that is used. When someone commits Harry Karey, they are commiting suicide. So, there is the possibility that it still is hari kari, as an ode to both the Japanese and American terms.

Yeah, but IMO that would suck. Either say HARA-KIRI, or don't go anywhere near japanese. But that's just me.
