Who do you mean by 'they'? As far as I remember, Kahn broke all rules, killed Rayden, and his Shadow guards killed all the other threats to him e.g. Reptile, Tsung, Kung Lao, Siro, Taja, Vorpax. Then took over Earth Realm. There was no-one alive to close it.
This is onyl what my memory tells me. I have the DVD, ain't watched it for a while
the films/tv shows and the games arent one of the same, the films and tv shows are simply based on mortal kombat nothing more if you have noticed the stories arent the same.Just because something happend in the tv show/films doesnt mean that they happened in the games.About the portal i dont think in conquest it did get closed, khan killed everybody, which in the conquest universe would mean that the mk games would have never happened because khan had already managed to take over. Also it has been mentioned in several games about goro killing the great kung lao, and then in MK gold Kung laos ending is him taking revenge on goro for it, then they talk and goro says that kung lao was a great warrior and that if it had been the other way around then hes sure that he son would have seeked out revenge on kung lao and then they shake and make up.
Looking at your questions, I would say that the MK Movies and Media Discussion forum would be the most appropriate location to post these inquiries. However, as stated above, MK movies/tv are very different from the games themselves. Each has a seperate storyline which is not influenced by the other.
