Not to get into religious debate and what-not, but for those who don't know, I am a youth pastor in Southern California. Today, our pastor was on vacation, so I took over pulpit duties and preached my first sermon! I think it went well, and for those of you who are entirely bored or enjoy hearing sermons, have a listen and let me know what you think!

Just finished listening to it, man. You did pretty good. I'd love to discuss all the points you made, but I don't want to get teh skullz. But I will say that I'm glad you stressed the point of patience, as most Christians falter in that area. I think the topic was well orchestrated. I think the biggest problem with modern day Christians is that they think being a Christian means to believe in Jesus, when it actually means to live like Jesus. Many people treat their religion like a weekly routine, and it shouldn't be like that.

Also, the comparisons were done right, which is important because I could tell there was a lot of youth in your audience(right?), and it always helps when you can give them something to relate to. Good sermon, man.

PS: Next time you want to blow torch your CDs, just send them to me and I'll uh... do it for you.. yeah. wink

Well seeing as though its him in his avatar, we now know his Christian beliefs on Suicide. Him putting his own picture as a child lets us know that its ok and that one can even go with a smile on their face. However, its only right if its by the hands of a Nomad from the outworld.

lol. Just messing...
Well, the Bible says we are supposed clothe the cold, feed the hungry ... I figure my head is big enough to feed poor ol' Baraka after he's done some Outworld mollywhopping.

Oh boy, that eastern philosophy nerve is pulsating in my brain more so that it has in a long while. Just so you know the sermon was bloody cool and this post does refect that so please don't slip the Dogs of War. LOL!

Right then... The luke warm water analogy was interesting. Either be hot or cold. I kind of agree with this point in the respect of searching for one's path to devotion or as you said to have awe. Now much like a destination that has many roads that can lead to it, I kind of feel that finding one's devotion is to decide upon the many paths that are availiable, while also taking into account that one may be unknowingly steered onto an unknown path, and to chose the best one having faith that that one will eventually lead the sage to his/her destination safely.

*time to break out the Lao Tse LOL!*

THE WAY OF WATER

Great good is said to be like water,
sustaining life with no conscious striving,
flowing naturally, providing nourishment,
found even in places
which desiring man rejects.

In this way
it is like the Tao itself.

Like water, the sage abides in a humble place;
in meditation, without desire;
in thoughtfulness, he is profound,
and in his dealings, kind.
In speech, sincerity guides the man of Tao,
and as a leader, he is just.
In management, competence is his aim,
and he ensures the pacing is correct.

Because he does not act for his own ends,
nor cause unnecessary conflict,
he is held to be correct
in his actions towards his fellow man.

I would say that knowing the direction of where one chooses to go is something that is natural. What is also natural is wanting to get to that place. Ans so is following one's chosen path to get there. Now *Here comes the Kung Fu analogy* Kwai Chan Kaine in the original series and even the revamped one went on a personal journey for discovery. He was both searching for his brother, his son and the continued embetterment of his knowledge of enlightenment. There wasn't a mapped out plan for him to follow. Could have helped him a lot for sure, however he basically knew the destination he wanted to arrive at, but followed a path that he chose. Every episode, guided by his Shaolin teachings, he folloed a path not only by simply going here or there, but through his actions. Actions not so much asked of him, but actions that he belived were just. Everything has a natural flow and trying to dramatically alter that flow to often can cause instability.

Now to inject some jest, the white clothing issue. LOL! Now I feel I can do as much or more good in my life by wearin' black on black with black shades, forget about the ties cause I hate wearin' them, as I would by wearing white then I gotta go with the Hong Kong action flick look! grin I really don't think that material object that one posesses such as clothes or the appearance of them can speak of someones's devotion, however after listening to the sermon, I can understand why it would be asked of people.

What I enjoyed was the point of not being on the fence. However, I regard hot and cold to be extriemes. In order for hot to become cold it must first pass through the instance of being warm.

Now I'm the 'Balance the light with the dark' kind of person. I base this on the fact that I aknowledge my limitations of what I can ingest. If there's anything that can can be distructive to me or my closest friends and family, I disregard it. For me balance is what centers me and allows me to be expansive in my thoughts of other's beliefs and perspectives. And with that I gotta say that I really liked the message which was a way of advising people to follow a path to prevent people from pain. I feel that kind of message is needed more and more these days because there are a lot of people who are lost and are in pain.

And also, a 35min bare bones sermon is sooo much better than one that goes for an hour. Think about it. hour long sermon+Sunday= the possibility of missing a quarter of football. LOL! Seriously, yours was very thought provoking! (but 33mb?)Oh well. Why don't you give yourself dragon points? That sermon deserves a few! tongue

Happy 4000 too!

I'm Ghost!

Ghost Dragon, I rather enjoy your thoughts. I do not really have a response, because I think what you speak of is truth. I am not sure where you would classify your philosophy, I would classify mine with the Bible. But regardless of what it is labelled as, I believe the philosphy to still stand true. But that opens a whole new can of worms.

And wow, I have been here 4000 times now, eh? I need to spend less time on the Internet!

The funny thing is I've been trying to do classify it for years w/o coming to a clear opinion. I guees it's a philosophy with out form or structure or total devotion to a centralized ideal. The only thang I can say about it is that it's formless with the capacity be be expansive. It's emptiness aloows free roaming thoughts to pass through while depositing vasts amounts of knowledge within my void... or whatever higher level thinking meaning that is. LOL!

I guees I need to take a break from the internet too. This screenplay ain't goin' to write itself. LOL! grin

If you went to a Christian school over here, you'd be disgusted, they're absolutely horrible money-loving slobs, who brainwash all the kids into "not reading" but listening to "them". Gosh, this is so cool, it's so hard to find someone with *Common Sense + Believing*
