This will sound awkward.

Ever since the University state finals started to draw closer and I have gotten a shitload more of assignments, plus the fact that I am teaching I sorta neglected to keep myself in a good shape.

That is to say I am becoming a fat fuck.

Seriously, I am starting to grow a belly, and the wide one type too. It is not serious yet, I am 180+ cm high, and my weight is currently between 80-90 Kg. The problem is, previously I was around 70 Kg. which is a bit undernourished for my height but I was in a correct shape. Now I look like a lightbulb. The problem is shape then. My mass is appropriate now, only disturbingly located around my waist.

Here is the second problem: I have ossual deposits on my spine (spikes rubbing into each other), and my arms are notoriously weaker than average thanks to inherited problems from my paternal lineage.

This would not be a real problem aside I fence with a longsword which involves wrestling by sword and regular wrestling too. The mass comes in handy, but I tire faster, and generally cannot excert as much strenght with my arms as I would like to.

I am doing situps, pushups are out of the question due to my arms and spinal deformation, as it puts too much strain on my back as I cannot hold the prescribed pose necessary for useful exercise. Running is also not a strenght of mine.

I need to find time and a suitable method of loosing weight while mainly standing and sitting around and doing a brain job. I need some thoughts for this.

If running doesn't bother you, I suggest doing light jogging/running through the neighborhood. You'll always feel good after a great run.

Indeed. Contrary to popular belief, exercising does not help you lose weight; it's just your body's way of burning off excess energy. It's a better way of maintaining weight loss than actually losing it in the first place. Your problem is likely caused by changes in your diet, not your exercise routine.

One thing that's always helped me: moderation.

In my most honest opinion, don't diet. "Diet" is just DIE with a fancy "t." Regardless of what you may choose to eat more or less of, you're still eating more or less of something, and that isn't good. You should never attempt to go over or under. All things must be consumed moderately.

Whether it's meat, fruits, veggies, or cake, eat in moderation.

Contrary to popular belief, there is a such thing as eating too much healthy food, and eating too much of anything has harmful effects. Your body can only take so much.

The same goes for exercise. You must do it all moderately, and increase only as your body's endurance increases. Also, understand the difference between exercises that help to lose weight and the ones that merely tone your body. Push-ups, sit-ups, and the like are for toning.

Cardio is the way to go when it comes to losing weight. Though running isn't good for you right now, simply walking has great results. But remember, be moderate.

I hope all this helps. grin

I've been through this phase before. If all you are looking for is weight loss and not interested in gaining or toning muscle just do cardio. I'd say atleast 3-4 times a week, but do more if you can. You can choose high-intensity cardio for short amount of time (30mins) or low intensity cardio for a longer period of time (1 hour). I prefer low intensity, because it puts less strain on your body. There's no need to injure yourself.

If running doesnt suit you...choose another exercise that works for you. Perhaps bicycling? That's what I do.

And diet is important. If you want to lose weight. You should be 500 calories deficient. So say, if your calorie intake is usually 2500 calories in a day....consume 2000 calories instead. Stop drinking soda and start drinking more water. Follow this and you should lose the weight.

It worked for me atleast.

Good luck.

Well the thing is, I only eat twice a day. I can run on two sandwhiches should the need be. Thing is, I need the weight. Helps alot, momentum being the least of things. Also I have no bike, and haven't sat on a bike since I was 8 as I remember. Broke my leg and I never bothered to continue learning it. The mass is ok, I just need to convert it to tendon strenght mostly. Not interested in larger muscles, those aren't as important as a tensile body, flexibility and stretching in longsword fencing. Or wrestling.

That's just terrible....dont you get hungry?

I've heard that eating small+healthy meals in conjunction with exercise throughout the whole day (5-6 times) helps with your metabolism.

Eating just two meals would slow down your metabolism and would increase your chance of gaining weight easily i think.

Just a thought.

And if cycling doesnt work. Just do something you are comfortable doing. Like walk for an hour or 2. Hell you can even swing your sword over and over again. Just do something that will bring your heart rate up.

"The mass is ok, I just need to convert it to tendon strenght mostly"

I dont know exactly what this means...but if you want to work on muscle strength, well you obviously need to invest in weight training as well. If you dont want larger muscles, but just want to tone and improve your resistance do lower weights but high reps (12-15) for 3 sets. Target all muscle groups.

I went from 165 to 125 in 2 months by doing a lot of cardio, mainly running and shadowboxing (both in sweats with a jacket as well). Gave up fast food, soda, and eating past 7pm. Only drank water and kept my calorie intake at no more than about 1200 a day. Now don't go overkill like I did because I was only trying to lose about 15 lbs and ended up losing 40. Now I'm working my way up to 150 (almost there!).

Don't worry Chrome. You're a long way from being a fat fuck at those numbers.

I'm currently 133.8 kg at 173cm in height (which incidentally puts me at a BMI of 44.8).

Mind you, the BMI system as a measure of health is complete bullshit.

I'm a fat fuck. You're not even close.
On the subject of weight/health, I have been annoying my doctor for several years by being hugely overweight and simultaneously completely healthy (unless you count being overweight BY ITSELF as a health problem, and I don't).
