Resident Evil or as I like to call it RE (" ") is the zombie filled gore driven survival horror juggernaut. With the excellent now available 'Outbreak' I decided to feed off that hype and bring you RE4 through the eyes of IGN...

The Story line:
Resident Evil 4 takes place shortly after the events that transpired in Resident Evil 2. Returning hero Leon S. Kennedy has become a government agent and a very good one at that. When the president's daughter is kidnapped by "crazed organizations" Kennedy is sent to Europe to rescue her. He begins his investigation in a small village in the region. This is where everything goes very, very bad.







The Enemies:
these aren't your typical Resident Evil foes and therefore they cannot be dispatched in the same way. "This is something new. The enemies you are fighting are not zombies. They look like zombies, but they are not. That being said they are not humans either," said Kobayashi of these beings. "They are closer to humans when it comes to wits. They are smart. They will try to dodge Leon's weapons. They will whistle to their friends to try to create a group and surround Leon as well."



These Gymkata stand-ins may be rabid and crazed beyond understanding, sure. That doesn't stop them, however, from also dodging bullet fire, shifting from left to right, throwing projectiles and even stabbing at Kennedy when they are close enough to do it. One later character, this particularly disturbing creation who wears a sack over his head and carries a chainsaw like Jason from the original Friday the 13th, will even bury the blade of the saw into Leon's neck, spraying blood in every direction. As this happens, the screen wobbles and wavers in an out of focus in a very atmospheric manner.





One major control difference in RE4 is that Kennedy is able to perform a variety of context sensitive actions by simply pressing the A button in the appropriate environment or situation. This enables you a lot more freedom within this new eerie universe. Leon can now jump over fences, kick down glass, drop off ledges, knock over ladders and more, all with the press of a button.

The Graphic:
Resident Evil 4 is just as compelling from a technical standpoint as it is from a gameplay one. The title is, simply, easily, and without doubt, the prettiest GameCube title we've seen to date and indeed one of the most stunning achievements yet shown on any home console. Imagine if you will a huge, stretching farm village realized with high-polygon geometry and superior texture work.
