I'm trying to play KI 1 and 2 on MAME.

How do I get the kinst.chd files to work?

Who has these games and how did you get them to work?

I've been trying for a while with no luck.

PM me if you want.

Thanks

yeah, MAME is a program that play's arcade games.

Killer instinct 1 and 2 are playable on it.

So is MK and like 100 other games.

I got the Scorpion gif in my sig. from MAME.

I just saved a bunch of screen shots, cut him out and put the frames together in image ready.

Uh, I don't think mods like dealing with Emu shit...

It may be like Nebula or Kawaks where you need to have an updated .dat file. Peep your PM.

There's a emulator out there made just for Killer Instinct. It's called KIAME or something. Do a google search for it, that should help you out a lot. Meanwhile I'm still searching for the damned KI arcade rom sad

KI and KI2 have what's called a CHD (compressed hard drive image). You need that as well as the romset for the games to work. All CHDs go in the /roms folder in their own seperate folder. So you'd have to have /roms/ki/ki.chd and /roms/ki2/ki2.chd (same applies to any game with a CHD. This is because KI and KI2 had hard drives on the hardware, for graphics and videos.

The stand-alone Ultra 64 emulator also uses the images, but uncompressed (125 and 450 MB for KI and KI2 respectively, and unzipped rom files), MAME's CHD's are around 100 MB for these games. But if you're looking to rip sprites, just go with MAME. The stand-alone (U64Emu), doesn't have a pause / frame advance feature, so you'd literally have to alt + print screen it (doesn't have a snapshot button either) at the exact moment to get it.
I'm using it on mame. I want to play the games, not rip the sprites.

So I'm using a newer verion of mame that has KI on the game list.

Well since we're allowed to talk about this today, anyone know anything about the Tekken roms? I have Tekken 4 I believe it is, but it won't work, it is almost like there is 2 sets of files, a 1-15 and a 15-32 or so. I have one set but I can't find the others, or a whole thing. Same thing with SC.

Temp I didn't know u could play KI on Mame either
Ther rule about MAME is that you can't ask where to find roms, or post links to them.

You can ask people where to find roms only through PM.

You can talk about how to fix stuff that you already have, not ask where to find them.

At least not in a public thread like this.

You need to ask people where to find stuff in private.

That's why I didn't ask where to find all the .chd files in this thread.

I don't want it to get closed.

I had luck 'cause I got to download those files before the site I used to visit was closed... Anyways, if you go to mame's main site they'will explain you where to place the file you're asking for. It's quite simple, just open a new folder in the roms folder and change its name to the ROM's file name and place it in there
I have a pretty good idea how to do it now.

more detail to what the last guy said...
get all your chd files make sure theyre the right
size here are the sizes...

kinst.chd is 91.9mb
the kinst.z0 files 1 - 6 are each exactly 15 mb each
make a folder "kinst" then put the the chd files in there now put that into your rom folder along with the kinst zip file
refresh your games list in mame and it should work

do the same thing for kinst2
file sizes are...
kinst2.chd is 133mb
kinst.z0 1 to 8 are each exactly 15mb

if you have done all this and it doesnt work... the same thing thats happening to you happend to me for some reason it took a while for the kinst game to show up on my mame game list and let me play it i dunno why but a week later after not touching anything it worked
i say check file sizes cause if youre 1kb off any of the files the game wont work

p.s ki2 isnt very good on mame too many bugs
ki1 works really well smile just need a real fast puter

Do I need to extract the .chd files or leave them zipped?

If the CHD is in a zip file, yes, extract it. CHD's are themselves internally compressed, and the chdman program that comes with MAME (at mame.net), can extract the data from the CHD into a RAW file, which can be much larger.

Tekken 4 isn't supported in MAME. The general rule is that a game has to be out for at least 3 years before it's allowed in MAME. Then, the PCB has to be reverse engineered, encryptions and protections broken, and then drivers written up to the point the game runs. That takes a very long time. Note that Soul Calibur wasn't available until recently, and it was released in 1998.
Alright it worked grin

Too bad it runs very slow.

I'm gonna have to upgrade my computer : /
OK, now I have KI2 working on the U64 emulator.

But it runs in fast forward???????

Does anybody know how to put it at normal speed?

---------------------------------------------
Edit

Nevermind, I figured it out.
I'm trying to get KI1 to run on the U64 emulator now. Because it runs too slow on MAME.

Is there a way to change the .chd files to .img files?
