March 29th/30th, 2015.

My birthday was on the 29th, so I decided to choose 2 very relevant songs to me. Also, I'm posting this on the 30th.

That said, I'm unimaginative, so I looked at the top 40 most played songs on my iTunes and chose out 2 at first sight, but also had meaning to me other than "I really like that song."

Song 1:

Dashboard by Modest Mouse. Indie/Alt Rock.

I relate it to my life quite a bit. It talks about silver linings and how things could've gone worse, and while mocking the relief over a bad result, still goes back to remembering that things could get so much worse. Really helps with my depression, suicidal thoughts, and anxiety.

Song 2:

Everlong by The Foo Fighters. Indie/Alt Rock and Grunge fusion.

I remember knowing this song since I was really young. My parents both enjoy this song to pieces, my dad especially, since he used to be a big fan of the indie/alt rock and grunge genres. His favorite band used to be Nirvana.

Sadly, he doesn't give a shit about music anymore, only focusing on job/career, getting his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, raising my baby brother, supporting those who live in his house (mom, my b-brother, grandma, 2 boxer dogs), bodybuilding, and mustache/beard styling. He does seem happy, but he's also 500% grumpier than I remember from my childhood.

He stopped drinking after Dante (little brother) was born, stopped beating me when I turned 18, and stopped listening to music sometime in my sophomore year of highschool.

It was around the music stoppage that I noticed him being a lot moodier and depressed than normal. Beatings were more frequent then. His bodybuilding diet seasons were/are the worst.

Once the beatings stopped, he got less depressed and more frustrated, with his moodiness staying stagnant.

Once the drinking stopped, he became very... Terrible to be around.
Understandably, the focus on all these different tasks was stressful, plus my little brother cries loudly during the night a lot, and his only adult son (me) is a complete failure. It'd kind of daunting to have all this on your plate and having to eat it. He takes it out on me mostly, as far as family-wise. He doesn't have many friends, nor does he have quick access to hang out with them. No clue what he says to them, if anything.

He's getting better though. Recent events have made him question himself a lot.

The reason I went on about my father is because this song reminds me so much of him, or rather, my opinion of him, if you bar the parts that are more romantically inclined.
