I've only known about this for a few weeks, after catching the tail end of a commercial for it.
I would've posted about it sooner, but I had some emergency travel last week.

Has anybody heard about the reboot? Is anybody excited or looking forward to checking it out? I Do you think it'll work out well?

I remember watching the original with my dad, when I was a kid.

Cast apparently consists of:

Lucas Till as Angus "Mac" MacGyver

George Eads as Jack Dalton

Tristin Mays as Riley Davis

Justin Hires as Wilt Bozer

Sandrine Holt as Patricia Thornton

Had a look at the first episode. Wasn't what I would've expected. Not sure how I feel about it.

Feels like it's playing to the reputaiton of MacGuyver more than what the show actually was. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Breaking down the improvisations gives the show a sense of identity of its own, while also accepting what the audience is probably already thinking. It's a little cliche thanks to other character-driven procedurals, but it's in touch with the MacGuyver legacy.

Vinnie Jones was nice enough, playing a variation on a handful of other Jones villains.

Somewhere in the long development of the series there was going to be a movie or series about MacGuyver's son. I thought that's what this was going to be. A little disappointing that it's a hard reboot. Lineage could've helped the show a lot, even if Richard Dean Anderson doesn't want to make any appearances. (If he does - that would've been even better!)

Lucas Till seems like an earnest screen presence, but there's something missing that prevents him being a star. I could've bought him as MacGuyver's kid, but as the new model he's going to come off poorly by comparison. He lacks a little charisma and emotional connection.

If it survives -- and I'm not totally convinced it will -- it's going to hit the extremes of fandom. People who'll consume anything MacGuyver (Patty & Selma), and youngsters who've never heard of MacGuyver and don't mind some middle of the road gimmicky spy action. Reminds me a little of the new Hawaii Five-O, in that respect. So-so TV.

Anybody else check it out?
