German magazine Wirtschafts Woche reported today that Microsoft would jump at the possibility of acquiring Nintendo if the opportunity presented itself. Microsoft co-founder and chairman Bill Gates told analysts in the United States that he would immediately make an offer IF Nintendo's majority shareholder, billionaire Hiroshi Yamauchi, were ready to sell.

What would happen if Microsoft acquired Nintendo? Would the Xbox and the Revolution fuse into one single console? Would you like to see Mario on Xbox?

It won't happen, as many here will recall, Nintendo reps (I forget who at the moment) said before that the day THEY stop making consoles (equivalent to Microsoft owning them, IMO) is the day they get out of the videogame business.

I don't believe it will happen either, atleast not in the near future. However after the next-gen consoles war, if Nintendo don't perform against Xbox 2 & PS3 they might have a better chance.

Just posting the news, that's all.

I agree with you there. Nintendo's best bet would be to come out before PS3 and XBOX2 and try to lure 3rd party developers back so that they don't seem so left out with the MAJOR releases *coughMK7cough*

I truly wouldn't mind Microsoft buying Nintendo. I think that Nintendo isn't doing as good as they should be doing, and I got a GC, and it sucks. The only game I play for it is MK:DA. My brother is addicted to Nintendo though, and he would stop playing games, and I mean that, if Nintendo was bought by Microsoft. I could care less what happens, just as long as Midway stays up and running, lol.

Hmm, you got a point. LOL, hell, using those words I could've come up with this story and posted it all over the place (not saying you're making this up, Aussie smile).

It's like me saying "If the opportunity presented itself, I'd give SheUntied another hickey."

Not that it's happened, before wink

"...Bill Gates told analysts in the United States that he would immediately make an offer IF Nintendo's majority shareholder, billionaire Hiroshi Yamauchi, were ready to sell.
.."

Nobody is saying you're making it up. It's just vague as all hell. I mean nobody is making a news story if I say I was willing to accept Bill Gate's fortune IF he gave it to me.

Same substance.

Seems that site just wants to stir the old rumor mill.

And we'll see MKS lol

Nintendo should know by now that they have NO chance against Xbox 2 and PS 3. I have a Gamecube and haven't played it in over a year. Theres about a 3 inch thick layer of dust on it.

Didn't you read the part where I said "Not saying you're making this up Aussiesmile"

It's way too early to say something like that. The "clear winner" of the current console war is PS2, but I firmly believe it has everything to do with the head start they got and nothing to do with the quality of their games. PS2 has games no other system has. So does XBOX. So does GC. Like I said before in this same thread, if Nintendo releases the Revolution (or whatever it will be called) before the others release their next-gen systems, it might end up (during the next console war) in the same place PS2 currently is in this one.

I've been a devoted Nintendo consumer since I can't remember. I have been aching for the once powerhouse of the gaming industry to reclaim it's placed, but over and over again since Sony and Microsoft got into the game, Nintendo has always seemed one step behind. I really love Nintendo as a company and as a consumer would like to see them stay independent and not be bought out, but to instead as another post mentioned be the first to release a Next Gen system and have it be complerable to if not exceed the completition.

Sure I read it.
But it was said and I thought that I would just show that it was a quote from another source and not my own.

If you didn't say it, then I wouldn't have come back with the original source. It's not like I was flaming you for adding that comment. I just do not like it even being suggested that i make things up. I am all for confirmations and actual proof of things. Just like all the so called confirmations about MKD. It's not confirmed until it's from the dev team in my opinion.

I don't make things up.

Could be, as long as it has bloody games, like Mortal Kombat Deception, adult theme games, like GTA, Online Play, and a dvd drive. wink

quality > quantity

I'm not gonna name games but I'd rather have one game thats finely polished than 3 rehashes as ANYONE who is waiting for HL2 or waited for DOOM3 or has been waiting for HALO 2 no? guess who uped the bar there and guess whos gonna be there when your kids, kids, kids play....? prolly all three but only one willl be timeless and by then the rest will be easy bake ovens...

Nintendo's done a very crappy job in this System War and the last one. So I wouldn't be surprised if they either got bought out by Microsoft, stop making consoles, or both. In the last system war, they lost quite a bit third party support for the N64, and I think they brought that one on themselves by deciding to still make cartridges for their games instead of CDs, not to mention a HUGE disappointment; not releasing the 64DD in the States, even though the US console still had that slot for it.

They did, however, raise the bar a bit with the GameCube, with that Radeon video card thing. Once again, the GameCube is starting to lose third-party support, especially from Midway, due to lack of online gameplay and shit like that. Nintendo had better meet the demands of the gaming industry this time, because if they don't, then they'll probably end up like their old console war rival, Sega!

I don't see what's with all the Nintendo bashing. The GC is infinitely better than the N64 and their first/second party exclusives have been nothing short of amazing (Zelda, Metroid, Eternal Darkness, Smash Bros, Mario Kart DD, etc). The only gripe I have with them is their refusal to accept video game consoles are becoming a part of an entertainment system. I respect their loyalty towards making a pure gaming system, but DVD is the wave of the future, embrace it. I also respect them calling Microsoft out on trying to jump start the next generation of consoles - there's plenty of life left in all three systems, there's no reason to be rushing to put the new hardware out just to stick it to the consumers more. That being said, their lack of dedication to online play is going to hurt them in the long run because it's finally beginning to get acceptance from the mainstream gaming audience (even though geezers like me are still unimpressed by it).

Bottom line, Nintendo is still the best first party software developer in the world, but they are going to have to evolve to keep this three way console war going into the next generation.
