Hey guys - this is my latest work. I did things a little differently this time around. I've done several portraits in the past, but I used different techniques and such. I found this pencil that is REALLY dark and it doesn't blend at all. So to blend, I have to use regular lead over it and then shade. It's kind of a pain in the ass really, but I like the darker look. I think it adds to the realism. Let me know what you guys think - just please, please don't be too hard on me. I'm liable to run with scissors. :)
If that didn't work, here's the link: www.sharemation.com/actingartist/Laced7-3.jpg Thanks!

Really nice! The tones look really nice relating to the light source. Good job. I always mess up on the hair, so I'll be looking at yours for reference.
Did you use 2H and 2B pencils?

Hey, thanks - I used a regular lead pen as usual for most of the drawing. The darker pencil I used for lowlights in the hair, the pupils, the lace, nostrils, and um... that's about it I guess. I don't know what kind of pecil it is. It's just a really dark one. :) When I find out, I'll let you know.

Huh! Nicely done mate! Damn, now I feel like getting out my 14x17 sketch pad and drawing something or someone.

Thank you very much. So are you!
badass detail man.. i need to start drawing again.. its summer..im lazy.. the only constructive critizism i have though is.. the under the chin shadow is too harsh.. a shadow isnt black.. just a shade to give that push and pull effect.. it works for the hair.. but try touching up with that neck..get some vine charcoal.. its cheap.. but its a beautiful drawing 5/5
what does this picture mean to you? any inspirations?

First of all - Thank you. I fixed the chin since I last scanned it. The dark pencil came out bad with the scan. The light, you know... came through, and made it look rough. It doesn't look as rough in person.
Well, the picture is actually of Christina Aguilera incase anyone failed to recognize. It's actually for a voting campaign (www.declareyourself.com), shot by David LaChapelle.
I am in love with Christina. I think she is beautiful. This picture just intruiged me. I love the tears. The laced up mouth is representative of not able to speek - keeping things in. I for one, have a lot of things I am scared to say. I am a very voiced opinionated person, but there are some things I'm not ready to share yet. I just love the picture as a whole. It's so beautiful, yet wicked and dark at the same time. It's very complex, like me. I just like it.
Thanks for your comment! :o) I appreciate it.

excellent attention to detail...
I like the methon you used on the lips... hte glossy look you gave them gives them a lot of depth, mainly due to the heavy contrast, very nice... some creative critizism however I am not too fond of the eyes, well the socket foreskin is much too accentuated...

Thanks for your criticism. That's what I was looking for. I thought that the skin over the eyes was a little too dark myself. In the actual picture, it is EXTREMELY dark. It's basically black. I lightened them up. I though they look fine now, but thanks. I'll see what I can do.
As for the lips, I couldn't make the highlights like I wanted to. I'm not exactly satisfied with them yet. But thanks! I appreciate it.
