Nintendo is comprised of three Japanese words. Nin, Ten, Dou, and when combined it means we kicked the holy shit outta Atari.
The characters are also well developed, having actual personalities and quirks. Twilight Sparkle is a telekinetic, verbose, and studious skeptic, and serves as the typical "straight man" of a group made up of loons. She often reacts to the other ponies the way a normal person reacted to the original My Little Pony cartoon back in the day.
Applejack is to apples what Forrest Gump is to shrimp, Rarity is O.C.D. manifest, Rainbow Dash is a super speedster who may or may not be a lesbian, Fluttershy is Snow White with a hair trigger, and Pinkie Pie is straight up certifiable.
Then there's Spike, a baby dragon who looks awfully similar to Spyro, takes one look at Rarity and immediately wants to tap that, mails letters by blowing fire on them, and turns into Snidely Whiplash when confronted by a creepy owl.
Oh, and Twilight Sparkle can go Super Saiyan/Avatar state/Jean Gray freakout under the right circumstances.
So, yeah. Everypony must check it out. The first season just ended but it's been renewed for another 20-something episodes coming later this year.

It is a lot more like a GOOD Cartoon Network cartoon than the unwatchable stuff from the 80's.
Its still pretty girly but its no where near as grating.
I wish these were the ponies my sister watched as a kid.
<3 Fluttershy.

Is this a real show? Is it geared towards children, or is it like an adult humor remake or something?
It's not an "adult" show or anything but it's definitely cleverly written. Enough for a swarm of 20-something year old guys to latch onto it, at least. Again, think Powerpuff Girls.
Derp.
Derpy Hooves represent!
Is it just me or is every forum I go to filled with threads on this show. WHAT IS IT WITH THIS SHOW!?
Pure awesomeness. The fanbase exploded because the show really is just that good.

No, the reason My Little Pony sucked was because all the characters were bland as balls. Mere empty shells who weren't characters but talking props. They had no discerning features other than their colors. You could take one pony's lines, give them to another pony, and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Not to mention the writing itself was pretty insipid.
I hate to rag on the actors, some of whom like Charlie Adler have great work under their belt, but they all came off as stiff and over-rehearsed, probably because they had so little to work with. Plus the character design was pretty lame. The ponies couldn't deliver any emotion as they were drawn and animated. They had emotionless eyes. The show had nothing carrying it other than "Weeeeee! Colors!"
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, on the other hand? Well written, compelling characters, three-dimensional dialogue, lively acting, significantly better character design/animation (mostly through the very Disney-like eyes and squash and stretch animation), etc. So, yeah...the fact that they're all technicolor ponies is ancillary.

Then I was all - "(Clicks on Garlador's links) Hey, this does remind me of the Powerpuff Girls. Haha! Pinkie Pie is insane! Maybe I'll give this cartoon a chance..."
Now I'm all - "I have spent the last 3 hours watching My Little Pony, and I have a quantum physics final to prepare for...
FFFFUUUUUU...."
Guilty pleasure, indeed.

Turns out that Lauren Faust, the show's creator, stepped down and only served as a consultant for a time during pre-production of the second season. Hopefully it continues to stay just as good despite her departure.
Derpy/Ditzy Doo is a main character and they know of Bronies.
They are gonna try even harder now. lol

My Little Pony is a show I watch religiously.

thats it, what channel is this on?
It's on The Hub. The channel plays a lot of old skool cartoons from the 80s including new shows.
Transformers
G.I. Joe
Batman(Adam West)
Batman Beyond
New shows include:
Transformers Prime
G.I. Joe Renegades
etc etc.
I mainly watch both Transformers and both G.I. Joes because I'm a huge fan of both franchises.
