It's a little early to be posting this, since the season ends tomorrow and pretty much every team still has one or two games left to play in the Regular Season, however, I'm posting this anyway, because the top four seeds in each conference are already clinched, and even though all of the teams in the bottom four seeds in the each conference have their playoff berths clinched, the bottom four seeds in the each conference are up for grabs. So here's the playoff picture.

Eastern Conference
1 Seed: Detroit Pistons (64-17, one game left in the season, clinched Central Division)
Detroit came so close to winning the NBA Finals last season...they had a 9-point lead in Game 7, only to blow it down the stretch and lose to the then-one-year-removed Champions, San Antonio Spurs. Could this season be the season the Pistons extract revenge on the Spurs like they did with the Lakers in the 89 Finals? The fact that the Pistons are a defensive-minded team with an offensive-minded head coach makes them all the more dangerous.

2 Seed: Miami Heat (52-28, two games left in the season, clinched Southeast Division)
A healthy Dwyane Wade, along with Shaq hitting his free throws at critical moments, would've gotten the Heat in the Finals last season. The Heat have to stay healthy in order to stand a chance against Detroit. Perhaps they could give Detroit a taste of their own medicine by exploiting Ben Wallace's weak free throw shooting should they meet in the Conference Finals...

3 Seed: New Jersey Nets (49-31, two games left in the season, clinched Atlantic Division)
The Nets probably would've had this playoff seed had Vince Carter been with the Nets all season last year. However, last year, they had to settle for an 8 seed, and be swept by Miami. This year, they could have a shot at revenge against the Heat in the Conference Semifinals. And if they do succeed at avenging their elimination from last year, they'll have to get past Detroit's stingy defense.

4 Seed: Cleveland Cavaliers (49-32, one game left in the season)
Take note that this will be LeBron James' playoff debut. Does he have what it takes to lead his team past the first round of the playoffs? That is the first true test. The second true test here is, can LeBron score past the stifling defense of the Detroit Pistons?

5-8 Seeds: Up for grabs between the Washington Wizards (40-40, two games left in the season) and the Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers, and Chicago Bulls (40-41 each, one game left in the season each).
The Bucks finish their regular season schedule tonight against the Wizards, while the Pacers and Bulls finish theirs Regular Season schedule tomorrow, facing the Magic and Raptors, respectively. The Wizards finish their season tomorrow with a game at Detroit. However, here's how the tiebreaker situation is with regards to those four teams:
The Bucks tied the season series with both the Pacers and the Bulls; the Pacers also has their season series with the Bulls tied, and since those three teams are in the same Division, the next tie breaker is the Division record. The Bucks (division record of 6-10) are tied with the Pacers with that tie-breaker, and both teams hold the tie-breaker with the Bulls (whose Division record is 4-12). So with the Bucks and Pacers tied at both the Season Series AND the Division Records, the next tie-breaker up is the Conference Record. The Bucks (whose Conference record is 29-22) holds the tie-breaker over the Pacers (whose Conference record is 23-28) by that virtue.
The Wizards, on the other hand, are not in the same division as the other three teams. The Wizards have three games against the Bucks this season. They lost two of them already (the last game between those two teams is tonight.) The Wizards also lost the season series with Chicago 3-1. However, the Wizards tied the season series with the Pacers 2-2. Therefore, by virtue of winning the season series, the Bulls and Bucks both own the tie-breaker over the Wizards. However, the Wizards own the tie-breaker over the Pacers by virtue of Conference record (the Wizards' conference record is 27-23). So this could be very weird as to who gets the 7 and 8 seeds in the event that all four of these teams end up with a 4-way tie. In a four-way tie, Milwaukee would obviously get the 5 seed. My guess is that Washington would get the 6 seed, Indiana the 7 seed, and Chicago the 8 seed.

Western Conference
1 Seed: San Antonio Spurs (62-19, one game left in the season, clinched Southwest Division)
Coming off an NBA Championship season (which they had to fight for), the Spurs have re-signed Robert Horry and Sean Marks, while signing Fabricio Oberto from Argentina, as well as free agents Nick Van Exel and Michael Finley (the latter of the two was the most high profile free agent during the off-season, and became such under the league's new Amnesty Clause in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement). The team's first-time All-Star and 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist Manu Ginobili perservered this season through various foot injuries, while Tim Duncan perservered all season through plantar fasciitis, and Nick Van Exel perservered through his elbow problems. The team struggled through the tail end of back-to-back nights all season long. Yet, despite all of this, they have matched their franchise record in the wins column, with a chance to break that record with one game left in their regular season schedule. And with last night's win over the Utah Jazz, the Spurs have finally clinched the number 1 seed in the Western Conference after being locked in a battle for that seed with their division rivals, the Dallas Mavericks. After losing three out of five in their last homestand of the regular season, the Spurs have jumped out and secured two blow-out victories on back-to-back nights. However, this season for the Spurs belongs to Tony Parker, but not because he's dating Eva Longoria. It's because his midrange jumper has improved, and made his All-Star debut this season, as well. He is having a career season, and expect him to only get better in the next few years. They seem to be ready for the playoffs. They seem to be ready to repeat as champions for the first time in franchise history. And even if the Spurs don't do so, their dynasty is most likely anything but over.

2 Seed: Phoenix Suns (53-28, one game left in the season, clinched Pacific Division)
Steve Nash's victory in the MVP voting last season probably raised a few eyebrows throughout the league's fans. However, Steve Nash proved his MVP victory last season was no fluke, as he led his team and continued to find his teammates open for shots in the absence of Amare Stoudemire. Last season, they not only had to go through the Dallas Mavericks, but also the San Antonio Spurs, two of their top Conference Rivals. Despite the Suns' run-and-gun offense somewhat reminiscent of the Showtime Lakers of the 80s, the Spurs proved that they were just as capable of run-and-gun offense as the Suns are, and in the process, exposed the Suns' weakness; lack of defense. That's why they signed Raja Bell this season. This time, they'll either have to go through Dallas OR San Antonio to get to the Finals (barring a first round upset). The Suns still look like a major playoff threat even without Amare Stoudemire.

3 Seed: Denver Nuggets (44-37, one game left in the season, clinched Northwest Division)
The Nuggets' season has been marred by injuries (most notably to Nene, who suffered a season-ending injury on the Nuggets' season opener against the Spurs; I was at that game). However, the Nuggets have risen to the top of the mediocracy-laden Northwest Division. They also made a Trade Deadline trade that involved four teams and 12 players, most notably sending Voshon Leonard packing for the "Jail Blazers" (adding another player of questionable character to that team) and getting from them the self-proclaimed "Kobe-Stopper", Ruben Patterson. The Nuggets, if they reach the Conference Finals, also hope to avenge their first round elimination from last year should the Spurs make it there, as well. And the Nuggets do have a chance to do just that, as the Nuggets won the last two games against San Antonio, after dropping their first two against them this season.

4 Seed: Dallas Mavericks (60-21, one game left in the season)
The Dallas Mavericks are still to this day known for the run-and-gun offense they had when they still had Steve Nash and Michael Finley. However, when Avery Johnson stepped in as the Head Coach of the Mavs in the middle of last season, he made it a point to improve the Mavs' defense. "The Little General" hopes to model his team after the defense of the very franchise he won a championship with in 1999, the San Antonio Spurs. After Dallas' disappointing loss to the Suns in the Conference Semifinals last year, the Mavs had two options; either wave the white flag, or build on the disappointment. As you can tell by the Mavs' record, they chose to build on their disappointment. All season long, they were in a race for the Southwest Division title, as well as the number 1 seed in the Western Conference, with the San Antonio Spurs. Now, why are the Mavs the 4 seed when they have the second best record in the Western Conference? Simple: The top three seeds go to the division winners, and seeds 4-8 go to the five teams with the best records who did not win their division. Turns out that Dallas and San Antonio are in the same division, so to these two teams, one loss or one win meant the difference between the 1 seed and the 4 seed. The Dallas Mavericks need to be playing defense more consistently in order to finally eliminate their division rivals from the playoffs. Dallas' defense certainly has improved, but it will take a while for that defense to reach that of San Antonio or Detroit's calibur.

5-6 Seeds: Up for grabs between the Memphis Grizzlies (47-33, two games left in the season) and the Los Angeles Clippers (46-34, two games left in the season)
The third straight playoff appearance for the Grizzlies (also the third in franchise history). Pao Gasol had his break-out season, as well, making his All-Star game debut this season. Will this be the season they win their first playoff game in franchise history? Or will they be swept in the first round again?
As for the Clippers...surprise, surprise. Bet you didn't predict them in the playoffs at the beginning of the season, let alone their surprising start at the beginning of the season. Sam Cassell and Cuttino Mobley have been the X-Factor in all of that, giving the team the veteran backcourt leadership they've never had. Though their explosiveness did cool down when Corey Maggette got injured, they still perservered. Elton Brand had an MVP-type season, and made his All-Star debut this season. They do have a shot at finally winning a playoff series.
On another note, the 5 and 6 seeds have been up for grabs up to this point between the Grizzlies and the Clippers. However, both teams have two games left in their schedule (just so happens that one of them is against each other), and only one game separates them. If the Grizzlies win, they own the tie-breaker by virtue of winning the season series, and by virtue of better Conference Record (right now, the Grizz have a conference record of 29-21, while the Clips have a conference record of 26-24). For the Clips to get the 5 seed, they have to win both games they have remaining, and Memphis has to lose both games they have remaining. However, regardless of who gets the 5 or 6 seed, 6 seed will have homecourt advantage in the First Round of the Playoffs, because both the Grizzlies and the Clippers have better regular season records than the 3-seeded Denver Nuggets (as I mentioned earlier, the Nuggets have the 3-seed only because they won their division).

7-8 Seeds: Up for grabs between the Los Angeles Lakers (44-37, one game left in the season) and the Sacramento Kings (43-38, one game left in the season)
Ahh...the classic rivalry...only this time, they're fighting for 7 and 8 seeds. Only a single game separates both teams. Both teams have their season series tied, and since they're in the same division, the next tie breaker is the Division Record. If the Lakers lose their last game on their schedule, and the Kings win theirs, their seeds will switch, as the Kings hold the tie-breaker over the Lakers by virtue of better division record (Lakers' division record is 9-7, while the Kings' is 10-6). And neither team wants the dreaded 8 seed, where they face the Spurs. Both teams have a chance at upsetting the Suns, but the only one of these two teams that stands a chance at upsetting the Spurs is the Kings, as the Kings' Ron Artest is a perimiter defender of the Spurs' Bruce Bowen's calibur. And, Artest's defensive antics have spread throughout the rest of his team, and Sacramento's trade to send only Peja Stojakovic to Indiana with only Ron Artest in return was enough to change the whole identity of the Sacramento Kings. The Kings used to be all offense. When Ron Artest came to the Kings, he changed all that around, and the Kings have suddenly become a defensive powerhouse. On top of that, there are no chemistry problems I'm aware of within the Sacramento Kings, so I guess the Kings have benefitted very nicely from this trade. The Lakers don't stand a chance against the Spurs. They used to years ago, when the Lakers eliminated the Spurs from the playoffs three times, but the only three players left from those Lakers rosters are Deavon George, Luke Walton, and Kobe Bryant; all the other players on those Lakers rosters are either retired or with other teams (one of them is with the Spurs; Robert Horry). Kobe will have trouble scoring over Bruce Bowen, that much is for sure. Kobe's got a better shot at getting easier scoring against the Suns than he does against the Spurs. Plus, even if the Lakers advance to the next round, they certainly aren't the powerhouse they were when they had Shaq. It will take a few years for the Lakers to return to dominance.

Now, as the last two games of the season wind down, feel free to predict who will get the last four seeds in each conference. I'll have the match-up updates as soon as early Thursday morning. Also feel free to make your predictions as to how far each of these sixteen teams will go in the playoffs. And when the playoffs begin, I intend to use this thread for all the developments in the playoffs.

Probably, but if the Suns manage to beat the Spurs, or if the Spurs lose to some team, then the Suns are playing the Pistons

With all of tonight's games finished (three of them determining playoff seeding), an update is in order.

The Washington Wizards beat the Milwaukee Bucks tonight with a score of 116 - 102. That places the Wizards at 41-40 with the 5 seed (and an opportunity to clinch the 5 seed tomorrow against the Pistons, either with their victory, or a loss to both the Bulls and the Pacers tomorrow), and the Bucks finish their regular season with a record of 40-42, with the 8 seed right now (may or may not be clinched; the Pacers and Bulls both have to win tomorrow for this to occur). So that means the bottom 4 seeds in the Eastern Conference are still yet to be determined. But here's where it stands right now.

1) Detroit Pistons (64-17)*
8) Milwaukee Bucks (40-42)

4) Cleveland Cavaliers (49-32)*
5) Washington Wizards (41-40)

3) New Jersey Nets (49-32)*
6) Indiana Pacers (40-41)

2) Miami Heat (52-29)*
7) Chicago Bulls (40-41)

* = playoff seed clinched

Notice how I have Miami and New Jersey's records different than they were when I posted the thread. That's because they both had games tonight, and both lost, but since they won their divisions and have their seeds clinched, it won't affect the playoff seeding. Miami lost to the Atlanta Hawks tonight 103-100, while the New Jersey Nets lost to the Philadelpha 76ers tonight 91-88. The Milwaukee Bucks' regular season schedule is finished, while the rest of the Eastern Conference playoff teams finish their schedules tomorrow.

Now, in the Western Conference, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Clippers have both clinched the number 5 and 6 seeds, respectively. The Grizzlies defeated the Clippers tonight with a score of 101-95. Meanwhile, the Sacramento Kings narrowly avoided clinching the number 8 seed by beating the Seattle Supersonics 111-105 and finish their season at 44-38. As previously stated, the Sacramento Kings own the tie-breaker over the Los Angeles Lakers, so if the Kings are to secure that 7th seed, the Lakers must lose tomorrow. So here's the Western Conference playoff picture as it stands now.

1) San Antonio Spurs (62-19)*
8) Sacramento Kings (44-38)

4) Dallas Mavericks (60-21)*
5) Memphis Grizzlies (48-33)*

3) Denver Nuggets (44-37)*
6) Los Angeles Clippers (46-35)*

2) Phoenix Suns (53-28)*
7) Los Angeles Lakers (44-37)

* = playoff seed clinched

Sacramento's regular season schedule is finished, while the rest of the Western Conference playoff teams end theirs tomorrow.

With the Lakers victorious tonight over the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets 115-95, the Lakers clinch the 7 seed. Now Sacramento takes the defending champions.

By defeating the Detroit Pistons tonight 96-80, the Washington Wizards have clinched the 5 seed in the Eastern Conference. Also, the Indiana Pacers finished their season by defeating the Orlando Magic 89-83. The Bulls defeated the Raptors 127-106. Therefore, Indiana takes the 6 seed and Chicago takes the 7 seed. Since neither of those three teams lost tonight, Milwaukee still stands with the number 8 seed. So here are the official NBA Playoffs match-ups.

Western Conference Playoffs
1) San Antonio Spurs (63-19)
8) Sacramento Kings (44-38)

4) Dallas Mavericks (60-22)
5) Memphis Grizzlies (49-33)

3) Denver Nuggets (44-38)
6) Los Angeles Clippers (47-35)

2) Phoenix Suns (54-28)
7) Los Angeles Lakers (45-37)

Eastern Conference Playoffs
1) Detroit Pistons (64-18)
8) Milwaukee Bucks (40-42)

4) Cleveland Cavaliers (50-32)
5) Washington Wizards (42-40)

3) New Jersey Nets (49-33)
6) Indiana Pacers (41-41)

2) Miami Heat (52-30)
8) Chicago Bulls (41-41)

Be sure to check NBA.com for the playoff schedule.

Now, make your first round predictions. I've already got mine in.

Western Conference:
San Antonio Spurs vs. Sacramento Kings - San Antonio in 6. Why am I saying in 6? Well, Sacramento features a perimiter defender of the same calibur as San Antonio's Bruce Bowen. His name just happens to be Ron Artest, so I expect this first round match-up to be grinded out, and go down to the wire, despite the fact that San Antonio's a 1 seed and Sacramento's an 8 seed. But there is the possibility of a huge upset here.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Memphis Grizzlies - Dallas in 7. Memphis is in better playoff position than they were the last two years. They have a chance to finally win a playoff game, which they've never done in franchise history (of course, they've only been to the playoffs twice, and that was the past two seasons)

Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Clippers - Clips in 5. Believe it or not, the Clippers are not only in the playoffs for the first time in...god only knows how long..., but they also have HOMECOURT ADVANTAGE in the first round. Sam Cassell's the X-factor in all of this, and it all results in Elton Brand's break-out season. Watch out, Western Conference. If the Spurs' best players aren't healthy, the Clippers could very well go to the Finals.

Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Lakers - Suns in sweep. Despite only having Amare Stoudemire play three games all season, the Suns have managed to run on all cylinders, and much like Sam Cassell's the X-factor of the Clippers, Steve Nash is the X-factor of the Suns. And why am I predicting the Suns in a sweep? Well, because Kobe is the only Laker consistent with regards to scoring. The rest of the team will pick up the scoring load every now and then, but they rely on Kobe too much. Meanwhile, Steve Nash just ignites the fast-breaks reminiscent of the 1980s version of the Suns' opponent, the Showtime Lakers. Just remember...when you've got a lead over the Phoenix Suns, no lead is safe. And I doubt the Lakers as a team have the defensive capability to stop the Suns.

Eastern Conference:
Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards - Pistons in sweep. Plain and simple. The Pistons have been unstoppable all season long, and even have a shot at reclaiming the NBA title.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Washington Wizards - Cavs in 7. I'm thinking it will go to 7 games, because LeBron's not experienced enough to take over an entire playoff series by himself. However, this series will be a great learning experience for LeBron. This should be fun to watch, as it will be LeBron's playoff debut.

New Jersey Nets vs. Indiana Pacers - Nets in sweep. Let's face it; the Pacers are no longer the playoff powerhouse they once were. Most of that has to do with Reggie Miller's retirement, and Reggie has been the Pacers' playoff hero within the last 15 or 16 seasons. Another factor into this is the fact that the Pacers no longer have Ron Artest, so they are less able to dominate a grinded-out playoff game than they were two years ago. I doubt the Pacers will have an answer for Vince Carter.

Miami Heat vs. Chicago Bulls - Heat in 6. Though I certainly wish the best for the Heat in the playoffs, the Heat absolutely MUST step it up, and they need to do that NOW. The Heat have lost the last few games of the season, and that certainly does not help the Heat going into the playoffs. If you're in the playoffs and you finish the season on a multi-game losing streak, it is bound to affect your momentum in the playoffs, regardless of whether you have a 1 seed or an 8 seed. The Heat have to step it up now if they do not want to fall victim to a first-round upset. And the Chicago Bulls do have the potential to pull off just that.
Western Conference Playoffs
1) San Antonio Spurs (63-19)
8) Sacramento Kings (44-38)

Spurs win in 5.

4) Dallas Mavericks (60-22)
5) Memphis Grizzlies (49-33)

Dallas wins in 6 games.

3) Denver Nuggets (44-38)
6) Los Angeles Clippers (47-35)

Clippers win in 6 games.

2) Phoenix Suns (54-28)
7) Los Angeles Lakers (45-37)

Suns win in 5 games.

Eastern Conference Playoffs
1) Detroit Pistons (64-18)
8) Milwaukee Bucks (40-42)

Pistons sweep.

4) Cleveland Cavaliers (50-32)
5) Washington Wizards (42-40)

Cavs win in 7 games.

3) New Jersey Nets (49-33)
6) Indiana Pacers (41-41)

Pacers win in 5 games.

2) Miami Heat (52-30)
8) Chicago Bulls (41-41)

Heat sweep.

It's been a while since I updated this thread, so I'll go ahead and do so now:

There are four Game 6s forced. The following playoff series are deadlocked at 2-2:

New Jersey Nets vs. Indiana Pacers
    Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Washington Wizards
    Miami Heat vs. Chicago Bulls
San Antonio Spurs vs. Sacramento Kings.

Also, there are three elimination games set. They are as follows:

Dallas Mavericks vs. Memphis Grizzlies (Dallas leads 3-0. Elimination game is tonight at 8:30 Eastern on TNT)
Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Clippers (Los Angeles (Clippers) leads 3-1. Elimination game is tonight at 10:30 Eastern on TNT)
Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Lakers (Los Angeles (Lakers) leads 3-1. Elimination game is tomorrow night at 10:30 Eastern on TNT)

So far, the Detroit Pistons vs. Milwaukee Bucks series has the Pistons leading 2-1 (home teams have won all games in this series so far). Game 4 is tonight at 8:30pm Eastern on NBA TV (free only during the playoff games right now). So either a Game 6 will be forced by the Bucks, or the Pistons can set up an elimination game.

I'd personally be really excited if the Kings pull an upset over the Spurs (which would make it the third time in NBA history that a #8 seed beat a #1).

I live in Sac and have been a fan since the Richmond era (or so I like to call it).

Game 2 was heart breakening, game 3 was a miracle (for the kings), and game 4 just made the series much more interesting. Now it's a best of 3 series. wink

I also like how the Clippers and Lakers MAY move on to the next round to face off against one another. All 7 games for both teams would be... at home. I just wonder... do the "away" teams have to get the "away" locker rooms? Or do clips and lakers have their own seperate rooms? With an away room too?

Well, being a life-long Spurs fan (along with being born and raised in, and still living in, San Antonio), I feel your pain with regards to the Lakers in the playoffs. I knew going into the playoffs that the Kings/Spurs series was going to be anything but a conventional 1 seed vs. 8 seed. I guess we'll wait till tomorrow to see how things go in this series...

VERY possible, as the Lakers and Clippers both have elimination games set up in their respective series. If the Lakers AND Clippers both advance to the next round, guess what Billy Crystal (celebrity Clippers fan) said he'd call it? The Hallway Series. He said that because he'd be sitting right across the court from Jack Nicholson at these games.

As for the locker rooms thing...here's why it actually would be called the "Hallway Series". The Lakers and Clippers both have their own separate home locker rooms. In fact, their respective locker rooms are right across the hall from each other, hence the name "The Hallway Series." Oh, and speaking of the Clippers, a hilarious development happened in Game 4 of their series against Denver, with 8:45 remaining in the first half of that game. These three pictures speak for themselves.

That is what happened when Reggie Evans and Chris Kaman were battling for position for a rebound. After this happened, Chris Kaman shoved Reggie Evans out of bounds. Kaman was assessed a Flagrant Foul One, and Evans was assessed a Technical Foul. Well, the league office has reviewed this carefully, and their verdict: Reggie Evans was fined $10,000 for grabbing Kaman's nuts, and Evans' technical foul was upgraded to a Flagrant Foul Two. Meanwhile, Kaman's Flagrant Foul One was downgraded to a Technical Foul. Now that is something I've never seen in sports.

If you'd like to see a video of the incident, go to youtube, and search for either Reggie Evans or Chris Kaman. I think it's titled "Reggie Evans Grabbed Chris Kaman".

Another night, another update. Time to rev up that boat, buy some bait, and get the rods, because the Memphis Grizzlies and the Denver Nuggets have...

    GONE FISHIN'!

The Milwaukee Bucks are one loss away from joining the Grizzlies and the Nuggets on their little fishing trip, as Detroit beat the Bucks earlier.

And I'll bet the Clippers Locker Room had a huge party earlier, as the Clips won a playoff series for the first time in 30 years (the Clips relocated twice in that span). 8 members of that roster weren't even born yet when the Clippers, then known as the Buffalo Braves, last won a playoff series.

Dallas has swept a best-of-seven playoff series for the first time in their franchise's history.

Now, I'll see if I can find any "Got Fishin'" pics with the faces of players on teams eliminated superimposed on fishing pictures. If I can, I'll edit this post and post them up here. If not, feel free to post some if you should come across some.

    Speaking of the Lakers/Suns series...

The Suns overwhelmingly avoided being sent fishin' tonight. However...even though the Suns forced a Game 6 at Staples, the Suns may have reason to be concerned about joining the Grizzlies and Nuggets on their fishing trip.

While Kobe went to the locker room to the tune of Ray Charles' "Hit The Road, Jack" for getting two technical fouls (he may or may not get suspended for Game 6; I think he had 14 technicals at the season's end, and at the beginning of this season, the league made a rule that any player who got 16 technicals in a season would be suspended for a game upon getting technical #16 for the season; I'm not sure if they carry over to the playoffs, though), Suns starting 2-guard Raja Bell, on the other hand, was whistled for a Flagrant Foul 2 for clothelining Kobe Bryant while he was driving to the basket, in response for a couple of hard fouls Kobe committed against Bell. And if the league office continues its consistency with what's been going on, Bell will get suspended for Game 6, or at the very least, slapped with a fine. If Bell gets suspended, the Suns are pretty much screwed, because Bell is the one who has been guarding Kobe this entire series, and he's possibly the only one on the Suns roster who's even capable of guarding Kobe. Here's the list of suspensions and fines that have gone on in this First Round so far:
    • Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest was suspended for Game 2 for elbowing San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili in the head during Game 1; it looked accidental, but the league took into account Artest's past behavior, as well as Manu's, as Manu also accidentally elbowed Artest in the mouth with only 18 seconds elapsed in that game. Manu had clean behavior in the past (though he does have controversy for allegedly "flopping", according to people like George Karl and Leandro Barbosa)
    • Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem was suspended for Game 2 for throwing his mouthpiece at referee Joe Crawford during Game 1. Haslem was upset that he got hit and didn't get called for a foul, so he took his mouthpiece off and threw it at Crawford to get his attention. He got the zebra's attention, alright. Crawford assessed not one, but TWO technicals on Haslem, causing his immediate ejection.
    • Heat forward James Posey was suspended for Game 4 for his Flagrant Foul committed against Chicago Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich. It was called a Flagrant Foul 2, and thus, was immediately ejected.
    • Pistons guard Richard "Rip" Hamilton was fined $15,000 for his flagrant foul against Milwaukee Bucks guard Michael Redd in Game 3. It was initially called as a Flagrant 1, but the league office upgraded it to a Flagrant 2.
    • In an above post, Denver Nuggets forward Reggie Evans was fined $10,000 by the league for grabbing Los Angeles Clippers center Chris Kaman's nuts in Game 4. Chris Kaman shoved Evans in response to this. Initially, Evans was whistled for a Technical, and Kaman was assessed a flagrant foul 1. But as I stated before, the league office, upon review (and they review EVERY technical foul and flagrant foul call, by the way), downgraded Kaman's Flagrant 1 to a technical, and upgraded Evans' technical to a Flagrant 2.
    • In a suspension not issued by the league...the Denver Nuggets suspended forward Kenyon Martin (aka, "K-Mart") indefinitely for arguing with head coach George Karl about playing time during halftime. Initially, those watching the game were told that K-Mart was sitting out the entire second half of Game 2 due to a knee injury suffered during the first half, but as it was reported the next day or so, there was more to him sitting out the whole second half than just the injury. Needless to say, K-Mart's suspension has expired, as the Nuggets have gone fishin'. Don't be surprised if Kenyon Martin gets traded during the off-season.
    • BOTH O'Neals have been fined for publicly criticizing the referees. First, Indiana Pacers forward Jermaine O'Neal was fined $15,000 for criticizing the zebras after Indiana's Game 2 loss against the New Jersey Nets
    • The other O'Neal, Miami Heat center Shaquille O'Neal was slapped with the highest fine so far in this year's playoffs: $25,000 for publicly criticizing the referees after the Heat's Game 3 loss to the Bulls (a stupid reason to fine someone, no doubt, but league rules are league rules, unfortunately). On another note, that was an off-night for Shaq; 8 points (on 4 for 8 shooting, I might add), 4 rebounds, 5 fouls (what got him complaining to begin with), and 0 for 6 free throw shooting (Hack-a-Shaq actually works, for once). Now, you wonder, why is Shaq's fine higher than Jermaine's, even though they were both fined for the same thing? Turns out Shaq is a repeat offender this season. He got fined $15,000 early last month for publicly criticizing the refs after a regular season loss to the New Jersey Nets, stating in his criticism that it was the worst game he's ever been involved in. Not only did he criticize the refs after that game, but also Stu Jackson, the NBA's Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations, who just so happens to not only be in charge of the referees, but also the one responsible for handing out fines and suspensions. So I guess it's $15,000 for the first offense, and $10,000 greater fine for each subsequent offense with regards to publicly criticizing the refs.
Looks like the Miami Heat picked up the most league-issued penalties this post-season. I will keep you posted on any updates regarding Raja Bell getting fined and/or suspended.

well, since my thread was locked, I'll talk on here. Anyway that Raja Bell foul was bs. The Suns season is gonna end tomorrow cause they don't have their best defender. They still can't defend anyway so wats the difference lol.

It's official: Raja Bell has been suspended for Game 6. And according to what I've been hearing, one of Kobe's fouls has been upgraded to a Flagrant Foul 1.

It appears that the Suns are going fishing come tomorrow night.

UPDATE: Looks like another fine/suspension update occurred just today. Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki was slapped with a $15,000 fine, and his personal foul committed against Memphis Grizzlies forward Pao Gasol in Game 4 has been upgraded to a Flagrant Foul 2. Looks insignificant, as the Mavs already won that series, but it could be very important come the next round, or any subsequent rounds of the playoffs. If Nowitzki gets another flagrant foul during this year's playoffs, his ass could very well get suspended. Looks like one season after the infamous Palace Brawl, the league's not putting up with any bullshit this year, ESPECIALLY during the Playoffs.

Well, looks like another team went fishin' tonight; the Milwaukee Bucks.

Every other series still in progress has a Game 6 to be played. Some may close out their series then, others may force a game 7. So we'll see what happens.

Meanwhile, Dallas awaits either the Spurs or the Kings, the Clippers await either the Suns or the Lakers, and the Pistons await either the Cavaliers or the Wizards.

I made a bet a couple of months ago during a heated argument with a some of my cousins and made bets on who the two teams are that would be facing off in the NBA finals. My liver has just been chopping off slowly ever since.

A Detroit Pistons VS Dallas Mavericks final is the projection I made. $520+ is on the line, I have been hoping and still hope I don't loose.

PS.: Kobe Bryant got OWNED on Tuesday; I would be surprised if a giff of the choke-closeline-slam with words that have something to do with owning is not in the works by someone (or maybe it even already exists.
