New Nintendo console to be unveiled at E3; Sources say significantly more powerful than PS3 and 360
According to multiple reports today, Nintendo will reveal a new console at E3 this coming June.
Game Informer first reported that the console is capable of running games at "HD resolutions." Our sources have said the the console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and that Nintendo's intent is to recapture the hardcore market. Another source said it is capable of 1080p resolutions.
Nintendo is reportedly showing the console to publishers to garner interest for a late 2012 launch.

Would be awesome to play Rogue Squadron 4 without motion controllers.

Won't Sony and Microsoft be crapping themselves? Sony in particular took ages to break even with the PS3, and now Nintendo, which has been hugely successful with a less powerful machine comes up with one that puts the PS3 to shame.

I seriously doubt that a new Nintendo system will be announced this E3. After all, they just released the 3DS a few months ago, & I'm positive that they don't want to affect it's sales by announcing a next gen console so soon. Maybe next E3, but not this E3.
Also, Microsoft & Sony wouldn't be worried at all. I doubt that a lot of Wii owners are going to pick up their next gen console, seeing as most of the Wii owners are casual players & non-gamers. Same with 3DS. Not saying that they'll flop, but I don't think that they'll get the exact same high numbers like they did with both the Wii & DS.
Also, HD graphics alone won't cut it, especially when Microsoft & Sony have already have HD on their consoles with the 360 & PS3. Even IF their next gen console turns out to be more powerful than 360 & PS3, Sony & Microsoft will 1up them again in graphics & power with the next Xbox & Playstation consoles.
Motion controls won't cut it, either, as that's already been introduced on the Wii. They'll have to come up with something entirely different in order to get people to buy their next gen system.

New Nintendo console, Wii 3D, you guess what it does.

The only way Nintendo could get me to buy into it is if it offered entire backwards compatibility with the Wii, and still offer tradition hardcore controls, with an HD output that definitely out does the PS3 & 360, good online support. Something I honestly doubt Nintendo can or will do.

I doubt that MS will wait that long. It'll probably be out by like, 2013. And if they go Full DD, they'll be dead in the water.

Nintendo really needs to overhaul their online network/play if they want the new system to be taken seriously. If they really want to recapture the hardcore crow this is a must, HD graphics just isn't enough. it may not be the sole reason why the PS3 & 360 more popular with the hardcore crowd, but it is a major reason, and Nintendo has lost considerable ground on that end.
I just don't see Nintendo making any considerable effort on that end. They have continuously stated that they won't make any investment on the network end because it isn't profitable at this time. I don't see them changing their strategy. It's the reason why the Wii lacked HD gaming in the first place. Nintendo was able to turn a profit on each console from day 1.

There are one set of rumors which said that Nintendo's next console would be a full generation leap ahead of both the 360 & PS3, & the other set of rumors which said that their next console would just be a slightly better 360 or slightly better PS3.
If it turns out to be the former, then awesome! Buying it day one. If it turns out to be the latter, I'll just laugh & stick with my 360 while waiting for the PS4/Next Xbox system. We should be able to see who's right & who's wrong come this E3 (or Tokyo Game Show or next E3 if not this E3).
64 and Wii left me very disappointed, so I think I'll hold off for awhile on getting this one. Especially if Nintendo does like they did with the wii and let over 80% of their titles be crap 3rd party titles.
