Newsflash: No Next-Gen Xbox in 2012

Microsoft has confirmed that the next Xbox console will not launch this year.
Responding to talk about the next-gen console appearing at E3 2012, Microsoft France marketing director Cedrick Delmax said, "We're in an industry that talks a lot, that likes to tell stories.
"I am not convinced things will happen this year. Xbox 360′s cycle is not at all finished. The proof is that we don't see the logic in cutting the price this year. E3 is still premature. What's certain is that there'll be nothing new in 2012."
Delmas went on to say that Nintendo, launching the Wii U this winter, are not a concern for Microsoft. "We're not here to counter Nintendo and they're not here to fight the other manufacturers," he said. "Nintendo has put itself in a different cycle, they're advancing at their own pace."
There has been much speculation about the next Xbox in recent weeks, the most recent of which suggests that the console will prevent pre-owned game use and contain some techy hardware stuff I don't really understand.

You do realize that, that is the head of MS France's marketing department. Europe always gets consoles last and their studio heads seem to be out of the loop whne it comes to new hardware talk. IF MS was planning on releasing a new console this year, they may not not try to aim for a worldwide release like in the past. Which means NA could still get a new console if MS wanted to release it IMO.
While I think it is highly unlikely for MS release a new console this holiday as it is (I'm sure there taking their lessons from the rushed 360 launch to heart). I don't think it's entirely out of the question. I don't think MS would let Nintendo release a new console unchallenged. Just look how aggressive MS was about being the first console this generation to launch, after the success with the PS2 last gen. If there is no new Xbox system this year, I expect to see it shown at E3 with a possible release by March 2013.

Good! We don't need anything new to come out this year. Well, except games and all, but no consoles.

The Playstation 4 will be released in 2014 (or so i hear.)

Never really expected it to be this year, but hopefully there's an announcement this year and a release in 2013.

The rumors were all hinting for a 2013 release, It would make sense to announce it this year, but I guess Microsoft wants to play it safe and wait for Sony to announce the PS4 details first.

Very happy about that. I'm not ready for my collection of games, and in particular, various attachments and controllers ( including 5 Guitar Hero guitars, drums, 2 mics, 2 fighting sticks, 4 Scene It buzzers, Kinect ) to become "obsolete" .

Agreed. Spent $300 back a few years ago on my Xbox 360. Don't need a new system anytime soon. Besides we all now that after the new release of the consoles, the companies: Sony and Microsoft will come out with slimmer versions of the consoles.Good! Fine by me. Not only are 360 games STILL pushing the limits of expectations, but the continued high sales of the 360 would be tarnished by the announcement of a new console.
Take your time, MS...you've got a winner right now. Wait until 360 sales start to drop off before bringing out the new guns.

It's 6 year old hardware that looks and feels like 6 year old hardware. It's not pushing any limits. They have to rely on tricks to even get some newer games to run, and many of them don't even support full HD.
Even if the consoles are released next year, it'd probably take a while for them to fully take off anyway. 360 development will still continue, it's not like you're being forced to buy the new console and stop buying 360 games.
I'm just eager for the next generation. I want to see big advancements.

It'll always be there. Great games are never obsolete.

I agree, just I will sorta feel like it is. Problem is with me, not the hardware/software.
To my regret I got rid of both my PS1 and PS2 collections when the nex gens came out.
Shat myself when I saw a copy of Team Buddies for PSX sold for about $200 on Ebay recently. I had that.
