So ive just entered the second phase of my orthodontic work. Braces now on for 2 years approx. I diddn't need them too bad but it was a self-conscious issue I have been dealing with since I was a child, So I figured I would just do it.

I would just like to reach out to anybody here who has had it done or is currently. Any crazy situations you have run into? Anything people should be warned about? unexpected happenings? things to avoid?

Or any general experiences.

Most of all, Was it all worth it in the end?

take care guys.

It's worth it, but it's extremely annoying for the first few days they're put on and removed. I hate retainers, so my teeth are slowly shifting. I suggest wearing them for a week after having removed braces and then sleeping with your personal retainer in forEVAR.

I've had Braces for a while. I hated them at first so I kind of got used to talking where no one would be able to see my teeth but now that I don't really care about them (a few months after getting them) I am used to talking while hiding my teeth. I am going on my 4th year I believe but that is only because my Orthodontist keeps coming up with Bullshit reasons for me needing to keep them on. I was told once that the appointment to get them off would be made after the next appointment from the one I was at.... The fucker made me go 3 more appointments only to give me the same rubber bands and chains and I still have them on. I wear the rubberbands too.

Braces don't hurt (at least for me) unlike what everyone else says.

I went through the braces stuff maybe 9 or so years ago, so I don't really remember any pitfalls.

But I can say that it hurts like hell, but is totally worth it.

I did braces most of middle-school. It wasn't so bad, though the really sore periods screwed with my diet for short amounts of time.

I had a retainer afterwards, and I fucking hated that thing. Wore it for a year and eventually said, "Fuck it." You know that speech impediment stereotype with retainers? It's exaggerated, but it's also true to some extent. I had to completely re-learn how to say my S's with that damn thing, and even after that I still had trouble speaking with it in. I still have a bit of hiss in my speech to this day.

Heh, as a person who has had issue with teeth ever since I've first had them... This topic has been something I've been waiting for.

I used to have cavities in the front of my mouth, which, towards the third grade, required me to have braces for the front four upper teeth.

Not one person made fun of me, and the only thing I wasn't really allowed to eat were apples, unless they were cut into smaller pieces.

Then towards the end of fourth I had them removed, them had the full set from sixth grade to the end of freshmen year of high school. I had rubber bands for a lot.

Getting them tightened is a BITCH and I cannot express that enough. It HURTS for the entire day after getting them tightened. It just feels like someone is just scrunching your teeth.

I've had various foods that they warn you not to eat, as long as you're careful enough and brush your teeth after is fine. They only became loose every so often, but not like crazy.

When you get them off, your teeth will feel weird. But just take extra care of the braces, and hopefully you get the ones where you can change the color, just don't get yellow, it really doesn't look right. Or black... they just make your teeth look weird.

I still have issues with my teeth, I have a permanent retainer on the back of my teeth, I'm supposed to wear a night retainer but I've stopped using it.

So, no one will make fun of you, trust me. Just make sure nothing smacks your mouth with them, your lips will flare up like a balloon if your mouth gets hit really hard against your braces. Don't eat really hard solid foods or they'll become loose and just be proud of them. I sure was.

I had braces throughout high school. Really wasn't that bad to tell you the truth. The only thing I hated was the expander they put in my mouth for a year.

I'd say it was definitely worth it

I also have the expander piece as well. Id be 10 times better without it. Its causing me the most discomfort.

Yes I could choose a colour, I laughingly chose black. Id rather get wierd confused looks than judgmental looks.

Thanks guys. keep em coming if you got'em

My teeth are the only part of my body that I'm self conscious about. My first orthodontist was a dumbfuck and ruined my teeth allignment.

I have been wearing braces for 7 years. Yes, that's ridiculous. You see, my first orthodontist did a decent job at first, things were straightening up. Then we found out I needed oral surgery, because my right adult canine wasn't growing in. SO i did, they cut off the flesh covering the tooth and begin to pull it down with a chain. This is where things get ugly.

At this point, I was 15 years old. A year's worth of pulling later, the tooth had come down a bit, but barely. This wasn't the huge problem. In the time he took trying to pull that one tooth down, it was serving as an anchor for my other front teeth (we didn't know that at the time). It was pulling them forward into an overbite. He tried to put the blame on me for not wearing my rubber bands. This was convenient enough for him, until he retired and I got a new orthodontist.

This new guy knew what he was doing. Apparently, that tooth had a disease in which it fused to my jawbone. It wasn't moving because it couldn't. By the time this new guy came around, I had an over bite so bad I could fit the end of my thumb between my front teeth and my bottom teeth-with my jaw closed. We had that troublesome tooth removed, and we had two bone screws put into each side of my jaw to remove the anchor effect.

I'm now at year seven, and I'm damn near 20 years old. This new guy is excellent, and I'll have these damn things off within the year. I've had this guy for two years, I had the old guy for 5. It was basically like having braces twice. The new guy understood how fucking moronic the first guy was, so he performed these last two years of orthodontics free of charge. My teeth are finally where they should be, and the only thing we are working on now is getting my two front teeth even at a horizontal viewpoint, and they really aren't bad as it is.

I'm self conscious about my teeth because I hate the fact that I have braces at 20. It seems childish. I know people in their 40s who have had braces, and I suppose it's better to have them if you can afford them, but still. My teeth, at one point, were horrible, and it's all because of some fuck up doctor.

i had braces for 2 years when i was 13...1st of all it's a big lie when they tell you that you can not eat pizza, popcorn or candy or that you may not drink coffee, that is 100% FALSE, you can eat whatever you want but you have to brush everytime you eat, drink a lot of water...also the only times they break is when you eat hard food like say funguns chips, those broke one of my braces 3 times, the pain usually last no more than 10 days, after that you get used to it, never get them black because your teeth will look dirty, i recommen gray color, always go to the orthodoncist every month for a check up, good luck.

I've never had braces, I probably need them though, but I still haven't even had my wisdom teeth out, so it probably doesn't make sense until after that. I really don't want to get them, simply because of my age and how old I am. I'm not even keen on the idea of the ones that go behind your teeth either.

Just curious, but has anyone had those invisalign braces, and are they any better?

4 and a half years, and two of my original upper 4th teeth had to be pulled out since no bracer could have fitted there. It looked like a dozer blade up front.

Now, not so much, interestingly my canines on my lower jaw are portuding and are set forward than the others. Ork like a bit.
