Anyone looking for a replacement for MS Paint, you might try an open source DotNet project called Paint.Net. It is not good for an image viewer. It's not powerful like Photoshop. It requires .Net framework(compatability with WinXP & Server2k3). But it is light weight and a good replacement to paint, it also offers a cleaner interface than gimp or infranview. Oh and did I mentition it's free?

No problem, let me know if you have any problems. So far I am happy with it, of course there are a few things that could be improved upon.

For other free software to complement windows, you might look into some of the following programs:

Notepad2
"The original Notepad shipped with Windows is probably the handiest program of all times, small, fast, without frills! Notepad2 tries to follow this principle, it's a small, fast and free text editor with syntax highlighting for HTML and other common languages."
What's nice is it keeps with Notepad's simple interface.

FireFox, the Browser, Reloaded 0.9.3
Firefox is quickly becoming the best damned web browser available. Why switch from Internet Explorer? Well, I'm not saying you need to, but if you've ever wanted to try something else, here is your chance. Some of the nice features are:
-Speed...when you first open the program it takes a little longer than IE, but once you get going it loads images, videos, flash, etc fast
-Add-Ons...no other browser has this many add-ons! What kind of ad-ons? Skins, Games, Gestures(see below), Tab Windows, News Readers, Email, pop up blockers(though one is built in), amazon navigators, Stock Quotes, and much much more...
-Gestures...are movements with mouse to preform comon tasks, ie) hold right click and move mouse to the left to go back a page.

*more to come soon.

It wouldn't work for me either, it said there was an error and the set-up couldn't be opened.

A very good replacement is the power calculator which is part of the powertoys for winxp, you can get it here.
