Parents Are Okay With Their Kids Bullying ... (Long Post)
To a child that has a high functioning autism known as Asperger syndrome. People who suffers from this has a difficult time interacting with people, they may repeat behaviors that could deem inappropriate, and they are clumsy.
In this article that I read, here these parents are okay with their children bullying this kid. They even seem extremely thrilled when they punch him all because he called them a name. You know, when I was young, when someone would call me a name, I'd just go and tattle tale on them or I'd get back at them with a name of my own. I would never throw a punch or whatever because that's not the right thing to do, even in situations where I did throw a punch. I felt guilty that I did such a thing.
But these parents are literally bragging that their child just struck a kid with a form of autism. They can't help it, they don't bring stuff onto them, and it sickens me that "adults," if you even can call them that, are just plain rude and could care less that this kid can't really help himself that much.
And the principal of this school is trying ever so hard to not get sued.
What do you think about this mess? I've been in a situation where I interacted with a girl that had a severe case of autism. She can't speak at all, she has to rely on her parents for a heck of a lot of stuff, but it's not like she can't DO anything, she certainly can, it just takes a bit longer for her to do something than someone who isn't autistic. She does have a sense of understanding something, but of course, she will throw a nasty tantrum if she doesn't get what she wants. She can't help it, that's just how she is. If something new comes along her way, she wants to adapt to it, such as when she saw me for the first time, she wanted to get flowers for her hair because she really liked my flower clip I had in my hair. She also uses an iPad to watch cartoons, and she placed her head on my shoulder when she saw that I was using an iPad too. She doesn't talk, but I can certainly tell that she wanted to bond for a while all because I had something that she knows.
And of course, her family treats her as if she's normal. They don't baby her, if she does something that she's not supposed to, she does get yelled at like any kid who does something they're not supposed to.
I've seen people make fun of these people because they are completely different than those who are "normal." But the thing is, they don't need to be treated like they're special. I have a friend who is a special aid teacher who literally treats any kind of child that has an illness as if they need to be reminded that they are sick. She doesn't treat them like a normal person, they HAVE to be constantly reminded that there is something wrong with them, and that is certainly not right whatsoever. Even when she asked how do you punish a kid with down syndrome, I said, "you just do what you do to any kind of kid that is getting in trouble, you yell at them to stop and if they don't you put them in time out." She was absolutely disgusted over the fact that I said that you need to yell at them...
But that's the thing, they don't need to be treated with any kind of different treatment, but they also don't deserve to be treated as a victim of anything. If you don't understand what is wrong with them, there is a little thing called "Google," it helps you very much in researching things that you don't know. And these people in the article I displayed certainly need to get their heads screwed on and learn a thing or two about the illness this kid has. He can't help it, and it sickens me that there are people out there, still to this day, that have so much against any kind of person that has a disease/illness that can't be cured.

Man if there was a grading system for how parents handle their children I'd be all for it. & yes it is disgusting that "parents" allow this kind of behavior. Stuff like this does make way for ambulance chasers/politicians to dignify their usual "the reason for this behavior is because there is not enough prayer in school hur hur hur!" those people make me chuckle inside. By the way, what's the update on your friendship with said individual?

Eh, I try not to really hang out with her as much. Since I too suffer from a condition, she constantly reminds me all the time about it if I feel like doing something that appears to be too adventurous. She also did unfriend me for a while on Facebook after I told her about treating kids like kids.

THIS LETTER was sent to the Grandmother of an Autistic boy in Ontario this Summer.
It was all over the news, and apparently doesn't count as a hate crime.
Is clumsiness really a symtom of Aspergers? A lifetime of practice, and I'm never gonna stop dropping shit?
I have Aspergers, mild Tourettes, Agorophobia, Trichomania, and some other fun stuff...
Anyhoo, I've been on both sides of horrible, horrible teasing. We used to take Blair's lunchbag on the school bus to get him worked up, and we used to yell "Free Willy's dead" to get Michelle going in the morning before they let us inside school. Whatever kept the focus off making fun of me/everyone else was doing it didn't make it right.

Clumsiness is one of the symptoms, I just saw that being apart of it when I was researching because I too don't know that much about it.
I remember seeing that letter and I just had my Facebook explode with so many sharing that and responding how disrespectful, how immorally disgusting, and other nasty words to describe how hateful that letter was.
I don't really understand how people just cannot accept that there are those who have these kinds of illnesses. It's not their fault, at all. Birth defects happen, and other ways where the child has this happening to them, it's sad that they do happen, but unfortunately we all live in a world where people just can't accept a lot.
Stem cell research and genotherapy.
But still, until we can correct the particular deficiencies which lead to such states you still have to treat others with the same respect and right as it befits another person.
The question here is how much responsibility lies with the kid for his actions.
But should anyone send me a letter about how my kid should be euthanized, well, let me see, around 3-4 years according to Slovak laws? Free speech does not mean you are entitled to say anything, assholes.
