Adi Shankar Presents a Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Bootleg Film By Joseph Kahn.

Unrelated to the Lionsgate film (for now) - directly related to the guys who made the DirtyLaundry Punisher short from a few years ago.
Tedious as the unironic "dark and gritty reboot" fad is, this one is very entertaining.

And trust me, Im a firm believer that Hollywood has for the most part run out of origina ideas. This is not a bad thing, because lets face it; as actors and producers get older, after about 100 years of making films, how many more ways can you stretch your imagination behind a camera?
Not to take credit away from this amazing new Power Rangers thread, the trailer looks tough to my liking, Im talking in general. Hollywood thinks we are dumb when they remake or try to recapture the magic from every single 80s or 90s hit movie. It's disgusting.
If they remade movies like Robocop, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Rambo with the same old ass Stallone in it, Im scared to know they might have the balls to remake classics like The Breakfast Club, The Labyrinth (probably spelled that wrong), Beetlejuice, Full Metal Jacket, and Home Alone.
I mean...I liked it. Maybe it's because I work in Boulder and I am so sick of hipsters, but there comes a point to where you have to stop using "mainstream" as an excuse to dislike something. If you like it, you like it. It's isn't a testament to it being oscar worthy or a work of art. It just means you enjoy it.
Sure, we are in an era where people try to hard to grasp at straws and make 80s/90s nostalgia dark and gritty, but this was solid. Granted if this weren't Power Rangers and just your average super-soldier flick, it wouldn't be worthy of a second look.
I really wont be truly happy until they do this with Street Sharks. THAT would be brutal. Dumb as shit, yes, but I can dig it.

The ending with Rita was funny as hell.

I was a big fan of the original Power Rangers when I was younger. This was okay but we should leave this show for kids.

= Director of ‘Power Rangers’ Fan Film Claims He’s Being Harassed By Saban
The director of a widely circulated “Power Rangers” fan film claims he’s being harassed by rights holder Saban Brands, which pressured Vimeo to remove the NSFW version of the 14-minute short. An alternate, work-safe edit remains on YouTube.
“Saban is trying to shut ‘Power/Rangers’ down,” “Detention” director Joseph Kahn tweeted on Tuesday. “If you’d like to keep watching, tell them to stop harassing me.”
Released late Monday, the short is an incredibly bleak and violent sequel to the long-running children’s action franchise, starring Katee Sackhoff as Kimberly and James Van Der Beek as a traitorous Rocky. As of this morning, the YouTube video has been viewed more than 5.9 million times.
Vimeo reportedly removed the video following a takedown notice filed by SCG Power Rangers LLC, a division of Saban, which holds the Power Rangers copyrights and is co-producing a 2016 film reboot with Lionsgate. However, Kahn countered that “Power/Rangers” is a parody, protected by the “fair use” doctrine of U.S. copyright law.
Seems naive and/or petulant to go into a project like this assuming you'll never get pinged for IP infringement, and then kick up a stink about it when it happens. Interesting to note there's a more explicit version, though.

From what I've heard, the only real difference in the NSFW version is the hookers are topless. I do love how it's satire about Hollywood's boner for the dark grim gritty schtick, though

The video was viewed 5.9 million times already. Maybe the rights owner is pissed he didnt get a part of that viral success. Why hold a grudge about it now? The video is hot as fish grease, so they mine as well build it into a full length film.

- Original Green Ranger Gives Thumbs Down to ‘Power Rangers’ Fan Film
Count the original Green Ranger among those who don’t care for that dark and violent “Power Rangers” fan film.
Jason David Frank, who played Tommy Oliver in “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” posted a video on his Facebook fan page criticizing director Joseph Kahn’s 14-minute short, which stars Katee Sackhoff as Kimberly and James Van Der Beek as a traitorous Rocky.
“I know there’s a lot of fans out there that love it and all that stuff, but I’m just a PG-13 guy,” said Frank, who revealed he was approached last year to appear in the project. “The cuss words, the drugs, all this other stuff — it doesn’t fly with me. [...] The problem is, they’re [the Power Rangers] still connected with adults and kids. The ‘Super Megaforce’ and ‘Power Ranges Dino Charge’ are still on Nickelodeon, and so you can’t take a brand like this and reboot it so dark and gritty. [...] This still is a kids’ brand.”
Descriptors like "he" and "grudge" are beneath the issue. It's not some jealous kid sulking over his friend's success. It's a company maintaining a creative license that means livelihoods for people and bigger objectives than "grudges".
If you want to boil it down to base elements, a better example might be property theft and identity theft.
It's a simple intellectual property and trademark infringement issue.
You can't actually take someone else's work and casually assume it as your own, even with your own spin. In this case, Saban have an interest in maintaining a certain type of brand (discussed by Frank above), which this directly clashes with. Which can have a negative impact on present and future business. One of those business interests being the active development of their own feature film. (Your post reflects one of the obstacles they now face within a percentage of a potential audience, for example).
A lot of property holders don't pursue these things, but the guy making these films should (and probably does) know its a risk. He could easily avoid these issues by creating his own analogous property to work with. That's usually less likely to reach the audience this clip has. If his objective is attention, creating a video that gets pulled is as good a way to go as any.
"Grudge" implies a petty, low level interest. Saban don't even need to watch the thing to object to its content. The guy creating it ignoring and objecting to basic copyright instead of creating his own thing? I start to wonder...
(It's pretty cool, though!)

I thought it was great cause it's very tongue-in-cheek.
I think it parodies a bit the "gritty reboot", obviously they weren't going for serious here.
Regardless its actually pretty cool, I thought the fake Pink Ranger was gonna be a nod to Kat, not Rita (who is the actress who played her in the dumbed-down scenes Saban made in the show), but that made it funnier.
Now, the question that nobody is asking and they should... where are Aisha and Adam?

If I had to guess....
Like Jason, Trini, Billy, Kimberly, Zack, Rocky, and anyone not named Tommy
