Hey all. Just curious, MKO hasn't had a facelift in about 10 years. Do the mods or anyone know if there are any plans to freshen things up a bit and get the forums a bit more modern or anything?

it really does detract from the site. For all the cool stuff Mick and co. are doing with the articles and the podcast, the shitstain site design is really holding the site back. I understand how its a massive hassle to fix this thing but it'd be cool to see

Agreed. Love the direction Mick is taking in getting new things to read and often but the tired site design is wearing on me after 10 years haha.

I don't like to talk about it. There's a lot involved in the process and you can't account for everything, so I prefer to just quietly do what we're doing.
I thought I might drop some info in a Christmas post this year, but my ultimate hope for a December/January revamp simply is not going to hit. There have been some big, ugly things happening in the personal lives of staff, and it just can't get done.
Bottom line: I've been heavily involved in pushing MKO's design in a new, modern direction. The goal is to balance what we like, with a new aesthetic and new functions that make it better and easier and even more interesting. You may have noticed a thing or two that are actually in preparation.
Things have gotten very serious in 2014. We're several generations into a new design brief, and working on revisions right now. A lot of basic mechanical back-end has been built. We've got a strong foundation, but each layer has new demands, and we're working to get a lot of ideas in at each stage.
Again, I don't want to say too much. I've been given a date, but I'm not comfortable letting that out yet. I want to creak the workshop door open so you can hear the elves working hard. Then I'm gonna slam it shut again. I might yell at the elves, too. (Pretend you don't hear it.)
I hope we can all take this time to get rock solid as a community and enjoy the good things we have. There's a lot of cool stuff going on right now and it's great to see folks get excited and supportive. We'll all have fun with whatever unfolds in 2015. I think it's gonna be a big year for MK!
