Questions about moding PSone for import games?

I was wondering if anyone has moded a PSOne that can recomend any good chips? This is the first and probably only time I plan to mod one of my consoles, but I have no idea how to, or what is good. I actually need to get a new PSX/PSOne becuase mine broke, but I was also wondering if I do buy a new system would it be best to do it myself, or just buy a brand new system already moded since i have no idea what I'm doing? Thanks for anyones help.

Even if it's for playing import games? There is no problem with talking about emulators in general, only when when it has to do with pirating games. So why would it be different with moding? I'm not inquring about moding my console for piracy, but for playing import games, which I don't believe is piracy. Even if the mods feel this thread is against the rules, they then they are free to close it i have no problem with them doing it if they feel so, but banning me, is too far and unnecesary, especially over one thread.

Don't mod one of the cute new ones, and 2 get a "Playstation" and buy a "Gold-Finger" at Game X Change. Gold-Finger's pop in the back like a GameShark...and all you have to do is put in an American game/take it out/put in a Jap. one/press PLAY. smile

The Gold Finger doesn't work on PSs that lack the serial IO port. Most new PSs, as well as PSone, don't have it.

There is an import converter available that consists of a swap CD and a spring button-lock fot the underside of the lid. It's made specifically for PSs that don't have the IO port, but it works on versions that do have it.
