Hollywood's fetish for remakes has gone way too far, and they're not showing any signs of stopping anytime soon.

The most common justification for remakes is the younger audience. Bloody teens. So many franchises which still had life left in them, being replaced by inferior versions. All because most teens are likely too stupid to show appreciation and respect for movies of the past. They're too lazy to look up movies on the Internet, which could allow them to find series, old and new alike, of potential interest to them.

There's also the ridiculous fact of many newcomers to a series not being able to follow the story, not having seen any of the previous entries, thus requiring a reboot, or a remake. Idiots. When I'm introduced to a new franchise via say, the third movie (or game), and assuming I couldn't start from the beginning for whatever reason, instead of asking for whole stories to be ignored or retconned, I just look up said series on the net, I try to find the previous movies/games. But hey, many people can't be bothered to do that, as it requires a semblance of effort.

I admit this thread was posted largely with the new Freddy Krueger in mind. It just annoys me a great deal that this version made it in MK9 instead of the true Freddy. His moves and fatalities are great, but when I look at his face, it's almost like a completely unoriginal new character taking his place, rather than Freddy himself. And I'm afraid that if Michael Myers made a guest appearance in a MK game (or any games for that matter), we'd get the one from the remake. Goddamn Hollywood and their lack of creativity.

GI Joe the Rise of Cobra was at least entertaining. Even if it was awful. I think it may've been deliberately so.

Yea I absolutely despise that they can't come up with original ideas anymore Conan the Barbarian,Planet of the Apes,Willy Wonka, etc they just ruin iconic classics with remakes The Incredible Hulk remake was better than the previous 2003 one but that's pretty much it.And they ruin Teen Wolf by making it a dmn MTV show.I really hope the DONT remake these following Iconic classics Back to the Future,STAR WARS,Predator(the 2010 one was a sequel not a remake).I would say Alien but sadly we lost them too I hear they are having one in production now I hope its just a sequel like PREDATORS was.

Yeah! Fuck everyone who's younger then me, it's their fault they weren't born earlier!

In all honesty, horror remakes are terrible. Horror movies are terrible in general. If remaking Freddy Kreuger pissed off old fans and brought absolutely no new fans in then I regret that they remade it. But don't go blaming teens for not appreciating twenty year old horror movies.

I dunno if you've heard about advancements in home entertainment.
It's amazing what kind of stuff still exists ten, twenty, even thirty years after it was originally released. Readily available stuff! Pretty crazy, I know.

When I was a wee lad, sometimes kids would discover some of these things, and, y'know... Not be fucking morons. You've got Wikipedia, kids. It's easier than ever. Step your fucking game up, geez.

most remakes are total crap, some were okay (hulk), and some should never be remade (back to the future).

and they better not remake alone in the dark (the one that isn't based on a game)

I also HATE remakes...but worst of all...I hate when America takes a television series from another country....and then makes their own version of it and calls it "Name"USA

However not all instances are terrible.... I mean the Superman films are in VAST need of a revamp although the last one was a total atrocity.

Wait, so are some of you placing some of the blame on teenagers for these terrible remakes?

Because if that's the case, then that's really dumb and you should probably flick the tip of your wang as an act of contrition.

It won't necessary be a remake but the Star Wars saga will be re-shown in movie theaters, now in 3d, starting in 2012. The first film will be The Phantom Menace and they will go chronologically this time ending to Return of the Jedi.

Guess what they are remaking and is set for release in 2012.....

Total Recall.

With Colin Farell as Quaid, Kate Beckinsale as Lori, Jessica Biel as Melina, and Bryan Cranston as Cohagen.
Let me guess, Tracy Morgan as Benny and Channing Tatum as Richter...?
Oh. My. God.

I want Hollywood to burn to the ground right now.

Comic book movies are a completely different story altogether. Many comic book icons such as Batman have gone through revamps within their own format, so movies based on them have a little more freedom. But for what reason did ANOES need a remake, other than the disdain many young people have for classics?

On the topic of good remakes, I admit the Friday the 13th remake was actually good. Not necessary, but good at least. It featured the live Jason, who was barely different from the original franchise's. I prefer the undead version to both takes on the live one, but I like Jason's living self. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake was alright, the prequel entertaining (loved the ending), however I'm still waiting for a proper sequel to TCM2, as I didn't really like the third movie. Never saw the fourth.

The brilliance of all this is most of you probably don't realize that some of the ''original classics'' you love ARE remakes themselves, AND a lot of remakes are way better than the originals.

The Wizard of Oz, Scarface... remakes.

The Battlestar Galactica remake was way better than the original tv show.

Oh, I'm aware of that. John Carpenter's "The Thing" was a remake. But before the 21st century, remakes were nowhere near as common, and they were generally better than most of the modern ones.

The Office? you dont like American version? Its one of my favorites.

The only remake that comes to my mind immediately that is good are the Rob Zombie Halloween movies. nothing to the original though. because instead of being mysterious, like the shape, hes just a big ass brute. still liked it though.

I am sure there are more. just dont know off the top of my head

"The Thing" wasn't so much a remake as it was a re-adaptation. The original film didn't follow the novella much at all. Carpenter's version was far closer to the original story "Who Goes There?".

One of the true remakes that I loved was True Grit. Amazing movie, and great actors.

But on the other note, some movies just fucking suck when there remade.
