So I just received mine today. Imported from Japan. Its sad this was only a JPN release. Its never getting opened and is on my shelf, forever more.

Includes:
-RE1 (psx format)
-RE2 (2 disc psx format)
-RE3 (psx format)
-Soundtrack for RE4 and recvx on their own discs
-RE4/RECVX HD on disc format
-Sleeve for purchased RE5 to slip into to complete the package.
-Umbrella/stars patches and extras/swag items

Pictures of the box set

Retail

My Box-Front
My Box-Side
My Box-Back

I wonder if my ntsc PS3 will play any of these. Too bad its never getting opened.

As a Resident Evil fan. This was a must have. I have babied this series since its birth and I will never stop supporting it Despite the arguably horrid title that is RE5. and the somewhat undigestable turns that happened during the development of RE4. But lets not start arguing. This is about appreciation and celebration of 15 years.

Is there any other fan who is a big a RE freak as me? Enough to order one of these from Japan? Did you open it? What are your thoughts?

I'm a big enough fan to suffer through the movies but watch them out of love for the game. I buy every game that comes out. I plan on getting Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City when that comes out.

Huuuuuge fan. Seriously. HUUUUGE fan.

I think I've played them all to death. Currently replaying the Remake of 1, and I still play RE5 and RE3 quite a bit.

At first I read 7,000 something yen and was like dayumsad

Then I did currency conversion and it's a little over a 100 U.S. dollars and I'm like grin

I'm a big fan of the series as well, I've only played RE4 and RE5, but I have every intention of getting Code Veronica 1, 2, and 3 at some point. It just became one of my favorite series, I love a good scare/3rd person game after playing through those two and watching some of the footage from the retro games.

The first 3 were better. My favorite is Resident Evil 2. Back then Leon was just a rookie and was so down to earth. I hate what they did to him in RE4. Made him completely change into a super athletic badass who does flips and cartwheels for fun. Same thing with Chris Redfield in RE5. He went from a scrawny guy to a super buff roidmonkey. I love resident evil but they desperately need to remake the old ones.

Its been commented that Chris got so huge because he was preparing for the one-day showdown with Wesker. A logical move. He'd need all the strength he can get. Original builds had him bigger than he was. From RE1 and the way CVX ended, Chris must have been thinking "holy shit I need to step it up if I am gonna beat this guy"

I can deal with Leon being a badass, an experience like Raccoon City would undoubtedly cause some major mental transformation. Which would be followed by a physical refinement to go along with it.

I agree, too many flips. But I can deal. Its not like every move we make in the game counts towards the canon. Now if we can only didn't have the president's daughter as the main focus, RE4 wouldn't have seemed to over-the-top basket-case crazy.

What this really eludes to, is that RE is losing a sense of horror, desperation and a need for escape. Our protagonists are whats to be feared by all others. Not Chris and Leon running, shitting their pants like a normal human would.

The original mansion incident(remake), you could sense the fear and "wtf" in their voices. Brad vickers was completely believable. Jill was shellshocked when that dog was shot in front of her. Chris was composed but still freaking out. Barry was concerned for his comrades. Wesker clearly knew what was up. Perfect set up.

RE2 has a Rookie Cop and a girl searching for a loved sibling. This presents worry and inexperience. Throw the horror in, they are constantly on the run it seems. Objective to escape the terror. Running from Mr.X, rushing to the sewers. RE2 was easily the best in the series.

RE3. Brad Vickers was iconic and 100% on board for real human reaction. Jill was more composed but still a desperation. Her and Carlos Olivera were really banding everything they had together. dialogue on the train or with Nocholai.Mikhial shows just how desperate they were to escape.

CVX was there. Steve clearly had his full ambition on leaving Rockfort island. Claire, although captured, was tough enough to think straight. Desperation played a factor. Slow door opening heightened the sense of "am I about to die?" Followed up by Wesker laying the boot to both Chris and Claire. Steve meeting his ultimate fate, hunters unleashed by Weskers scanners. Nosferatu demolishing Steve and leaving you all alone, then trashed and captured again.

It was a roller coaster of desperation.

Then RE4. Sure there was the initial panic in the village. But after that. It seems as though Leon is impervious to fear or desperation. El Gigantes, lake monsters, vertigo, Parasite dogs that dwarf the RE2 dogs. Cult followings, mind control, being infected and more. Not a shred of emotion to Ada, then saying he cant let her go at the end while speaking to Ashley... Laughing in the face of deadly foe. Even cracking Jokes about Salazar's hand, Saddler being "small time" etc. Asking Hunnigan for her number.

RE5 wasn't as bad for jokes. But there was still an overwhelming sense of being stronger than every enemy. Didn't like that.

This is more for the classics for me, and the box set itself. I hope RE6 really can deliver on the horror front. Although still officially unannounced. Its said to be closely tied to Revelations (which is a horror-based game) and quotes as its direction being "highly ambitious"..

hmm..

Exactly. The horror-survival part of the game shot out the window with RE4. It wasn't scary. I remember when I played RE2 I nearly shit my pants.

Man, I just really want a return to form for this series...really wish I could relive all of those old memories again. The REmake remains one of the scariest games I've ever played...

However, for those looking forward to Operation Raccoon City...beware. Slant Six is not known for making good multiplayer experiences. SOCOM: Confrontation was one of the worst games ever made and it took many, many patches before it even became playable.

First two only. And four was a standalone game with it's own stuff just tied to RE.

The series is a joke, but at least not as bad as the movie series, which deserve to be atomized.

Chris looks almost unrecognizable from his portrayals physically, I was rather surprised, but I think showing him try to be his strongest for the inevitable fight with Wesker was great and made sense, he barely stood a chance in his buffed up form.

Leon does seem more gun ho than down to Earth in RE4, I presume that came with the territory, I like to think he grew from a modest, down to earth character, to a seasoned warrior, he's not shocked by much anymore because he has seen it or most of it before, I just think Leon grew as a character as opposed to anything.

I'll have to play the other three before I can judge, but we shall see. They all look great to me.

I also have to voice my dissent on the subject of RE4 and RE5, most of the criticism I hear about the latest games is that, "It's not scary like it used to be", I mean if the gameplay, replay value, story, graphics and stuff also weren't up to snuff I could get behind those opinions, but if one of the only major issues is that it's not scary as it used to be, I think they're doing a respectable job; however, I wouldn't be opposed to the games being much scarier, they had some moments like that in RE4 with the Regenerators and Iron Maidens, not to mention in RE5, they brough back the Lickers, I thought those two moments in particular were highly overwhelming, the regenerators would not die and you were overwhelmed by Lickers several times, sometimes forcing you to run for dear life.

I know it's Survivial horror and people want to be scared when they play these games and I agree to a certain point, but I don't think the series has become bad, simply because of it blending more action and open world elements with the survival horror genre.

I'm sure I'll love RE 1, 2, and 3 just like I love RE4 and RE5 and it's going to be pretty cool to see young Chris and Leon in action. I also want to see how Ada Wong was in the earlier games, I don't know much about Jill, but I'm also excited to see her too.

Possibly, I haven't been genuinely scared in a while, I forgot what it was like lol.

I hope they release a trilogy esque collection soon that works with all PS3 systems, I might look into a possible gamecube purchase if they have them because at present as awesome as that set is from Japan, I don't have the money for it.

Most PS3s, even the slim ones, play most PS1 games even though they technically arent backwards compatible.

I can paly every ps1 game I have on any of my 3 PS3s with no problem, 1 is a 60GB backwards compatible. The other 2 are slim new 120GB models.

try it out. its worth it.

In terms of being scared. RE2 and 3 will likely do the job. Mr.X, Nemesis and william birkin did the job.
