Ernie Banks, the first African American to play for the Chicago Cubs passed away last night at age 83.

I met him once actually at a Sox game before my marching band went in to play the National Anthem. He was trying to see how many Cubs fans were in the band. I cheered and banged my snare drum.

Hope he's having a blast playing another round of ball up there.
