Though E3 is always home to major announcements from many and varied companies, Sega in particular has something that will apparently knock our socks off on the first day of the show. Sega of America today invited the press to a special event on the morning of May 12, at which it will reveal "BIG news you'd NEVER guess."
Sega has for some time seemed to be one of E3's biggest wild cards, with a dearth of titles on its 2004 release list and a great many development teams with no announced projects on the boards. Sega of America has also recently stated an intention to acquire more third-party-developed titles for publication -- in particular, there have been rumblings that it may be looking to enter the massively-multiplayer online RPG market.
The picture has started filling in over the past few weeks, with the announcement of new Shining Force titles from Amusement Vision, but there's still more left to be unveiled. We'll have an eye out for more news leading into the show.

In my personal opinion, let's see what kinda of surprise they have in mind for e3 maybe the mods here that are going to e3 could check that out as well. On a another note i heard rumors that hear that Sega could rejoin the console battle in 2008 or sooner. but in my personal opinion probly not,but i wouldnt rule it out,we'll have to wait and see on that.

I hope that the announcement has something to do with a console, maybe dreamcast 2?
If Sega announces they are going back into the console market, it will mark their end. Why would they ignore being a highly-profitable 3rd party to once again participate in the activities that almost tanked the whole company?
The video game industry is controlled by fanboys, and fanboys don't like Sega consoles...

The department of redundancy department says this thread title is redundantly redundant.
In other news, we can wait 'till E3.

If it were a console, as big of a fan of sega as I am, I would be very skeptical to buy it... I bought a Dreamcast the week it came out and I was pretty unnerved when they cancelled it. Also I Don't know if four consoles in the next generation of console wars would be good, because even if Sega gained a foothold against say Nintendo, Nintendo would die or go third party, which they might do anyway, but Sega would still be dying with Xbox2 or PS3 comingout, because like with the Dreamcast, the Sony fan boys would hold out for a system they know nothing about because they hate Sega... I actually was ridiculed for buying a Dreamcast because PS2 was going to be so much better and in all reality... it isn't... but anyway I don't think it will be another system... if it is... things might get interesting... or Sega will die

It would seem to me that Sega isn't so foolish as to re-enter the mainstream console market. However, as this article implies, it may be possible that they are creating a "designer console" unit. Something very expensive and very trendy that would be similar to the Neo Geo back in the days.
Personally, however, I hope its a new Toe Jam & Earl game

If it something BIG, it possibly could have something to do with consoles. With the Sony's PSP, maybe Sega's decinding to give it onother go with a portable handheld. Maybe if they do get back into consoles, they will still decide to publish games on other consoles, which might turn some industry heads.
All first party publishers stick with their console. Maybe Sega relizing how succesful they have become as a third party developer has decided that they can still compete in the console market and use their revenue from publishing thrird party games to fund their developement of consoles. If this turns out to be the case, could we posibly see Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft bringing thier games to other console?

Maybe another Nights game! Although...I still hightly doubt, any revival of an old game to BIG news.

HAHAHA - I hadn't looked at the title properly!
NiGHTS is a possibility. It's been hinted/teased at many times (everything from mobile versions of the game, to cameos in games such as Sonic Adventure) and it's constantly brought up in interviews with Yuji Naka. He never quite gave us a "yes" or "no", but the fans always seem to keep asking about that one...

I think the major Announcement maybe the following unanswered questions:
Virtua Fighter going multi-Platform?
Sega starts developing games for all 3 consoles?
A new Eternal Champions?
Sega Returns to the console war?
Sega pulls out the gaming buisness?
