"The U.S. and other UN members have been trying to force the Sudanese government to halt a military campaign in which the government-backed Janjaweed militia is accused of driving 1.3 million black Africans from their homes. The attacks have killed as many as 100,000 people and sent hundreds of thousands more to refugee camps in neighboring Chad.
The U.S., under the terms of a 1948 United Nations convention, is required ``to prevent and to punish'' genocide. Powell told the panel that ``no new action is dictated by this determination'' of genocide. The U.S. yesterday proposed a United Nations resolution threatening Sudan with economic sanctions."
This is very tragic. What do you think the rest of the world should do? What should the U.S. do?

Oh really? The U.N. doesn't exert much strength if any when situations like this pop up and the U.S. shows up only when it's too late.

I know what you're saying, but to some extend we're required to by signed argreements we have. Does that mean physical force? Not nessicarly. And also remember, sometimes we can lend troops, we don't need to be in charge(that is I guess, if I were running the U.S.)
What do you think the responsibility should be of rich countries?

Simple, well... not that simple, but countries tshould take a proactive stance agaisnt such atrocities with the backing of the U.N. Where's the 'moral authority' of the U.N then if it can just turn a blind eye to these situations?

the genocide in sudan should be handled as was or would be any other terrorist threat because that is afterall what they are. They should be handled harshly, in a no negotiation manner, noone has the right to drive innocent people from their land, or kill them especially when women and children are involved.
