Tattoo rant

And.. a rant usually has an angry overtone.. when you experience a rant, usually you hear more vulgar things said... this was pretty G- rated. I never said on the subject " do you like or dislike tattoos" I stated that it was going to be a rant. In real life, when someone rants about something they dont play both sides of the fence and act nice. Its just a form of bitching. Im sure you've done that in your life too.

I mean War is pretty terrible but since it doesn't affect me personally I guess that makes it okay?
Poverty is pretty bad too, but since I'm not homeless I guess it's not really a problem?

I see where you're headed, but that is a pretty huge juxtaposition.

Poverty also affects taxpayers. Who do you think subsidizes the programs that help poor people? That's right, you.
Global warming is a phenomenon that affects all of us. Climate change is a serious issue that needs to be addressed, and if you think it doesn't affect you then you need to do some research on the subject.

Alright. Doesn't invalidate the Poverty example. And substitute War for Global Warming. Doesn't make a difference because the point still stands.

The question is, do I care about it's effect upon me?
This is the same sort of question we must address when we see a person with what we personally feel is a peculiar tattoo. Perhaps they simply don't give a damn, not only about others but about themselves.

It was actually PG. Calling people idiots doesn't really qualify as kid friendly in a way.

Yeah, and you got people throwing in their two cents, and you complained that people complained about your complaints. So... I don't really see a problem except you who's having a difficult time accepting that people... really find this rant to be utterly ridiculous and are now changing it to another subject.

OK, time to clarify:
I respect your opinion, and i can see why you would have that opinion. There are a lot of show-off douche bags who get stupid/shitty tats and parade them around social network sites like some form of status symbol. There are plenty of websites i like to look at and laugh at that highlight this very issue.
However my opinion is different in regards to the tattos themselves. I have them, i've always liked them, i've known i was going to have them since the age of about 3. I think that tattoo is a personal form of artistic expression that goes deeper than any other canvas can. (Blood may be thicker than water, but skin is deeper than paper.) I have pics of my tattoos and i design most of mine to make them truly unique, but i do it for me. I don't show off on social network sites for everyone to see. If someone asks, i'll private photo. If someone is interested, great i'll talk about them. If not, then i won't. I just think it's an unfair assumption that you think ALL people with tattoos fall into the former category.
Also, to everyone who made political comparisons with war, poverty etc. just chill. You're over thinking it

I'd like to meet these people who have to show off their tattoos and make a big deal about. I've never seen one. Heck, I've never seen anyone with more than four tattoos on them.
Enlighten me on those people who show off their tattoos as if it's an engagement ring.

Great point PickleMendip.. and icebaby clearly continuing to reply to you isn't going to get us anywhere.. I couldve also took little snips of things you said and come up with a sarcastic reply of my own. Your unoriginality makes me feel better though, really thanks! EDIT: picklemendip what I like about your explanation is that you are spot on with the stereotypes that I hate, and at least you aren't attention seeking. Some people literally want tattoos just to have an ice breaker, and I think thats effed up. I mean whats funny is look at my username... my favorite wrestler has sleeves of tattoos and it doesn't mean I hate him. I can see how some people got the idea but oh well

I really wasn't trying to be original with anything, that's how I reply to people on this site. But it's cool, continue being angry at tattoos, I'll keep cheering you up with... Unoriginal comments to rant threads to make you happy?

I mean no hostility, we're on a forum. I got to admit that one comment got me irritated for a moment, but its all good. Im not angry at tattoos or you, so back on topic! no drama

I don't really get the appeal of tattoos, but I try to keep an open mind.
A friend of mine got a sleeve of zombies, one of which was Lady Gaga, and I couldn't help but think he was going to regret that in 5 year's time. Especially from him discussing how much it all cost him. Seems like a waste to me. When zombies and Lady Gaga are no longer "in", he's gonna have the equivalent of a tramp stamp: a socially irrelevant, no longer topical, and taboo tattoo that he'll have to live with the rest of his life.
Ah well... Glad I never bought into the whole fad of it. Good for those that have them and like them, though.

One could argue that there should be thread for pointless posts such as these. One where you could simply pop by and drop off a rant or comment on the day. It would sort of be like a drive thru at a restaurant.
Ehh, stupid idea.
Anywho, as I've said before tattoos have to meet certain requirements for me to not see them as foolish. Ultimately, It breaks down into three required categories.
1. Visibility- Should be a private thing
2. Content- Fads shouldn't be inked into your skin.
3. Quality- Who wants crappy art in their skin?.
Usually if 1 is obeyed, I don't care. However I take pity on those who fail at 2 and 3.

You don't have to care that it affects you, but to say that it doesn't is patently false.

Every thread is potentially "pointless" in some people's eyes. As I look at the main page of the general forum we got rest in peace threads, a ban the user above you thread, a thread about someones dream, a boot and immune, and more things. Ill still click on them to read, even though they arent the greatest topics. Yes coltess I totally agree, the only way I'll truly believe that someone got a tattoo just for "themselves" and not to "look cool", is if it isnt visible with regular clothing . if you go around with a huge tattoo on your face or upper arm while wearing a wife beater, youre clearly trying to show off something.

*Gasp* The thread that shall not be named!
On topic, I believe there should be some type of rule that says you have to wait 48 hours to get a tattoo after requesting it. Hopefully it would put an end to some of the stupider tattoos out there. But then tattoo removal services would be out of work and its already a tough economy out there...you know what, never mind...carry on.

Detox, I recently read an article a couple days ago about Washington D.C. proposing a 24 hour waiting time for a tattoo. I think thats probably a good idea, and I'm sure people who get them removed usually do so after a few years went by, simply because people dont think the same way they did when a few years have passed.

People get tattoos for the same reasons others diet and pack into gyms, wear the clothes they wear. it's about being comfortable in your own skin.
I think tattoo's can look really bad and kinda trashy when not properly kept up and like retouched every so often. A faded tattoo just looks bad, especially if its in color.
Other than that I think of tattoo's as just a part of someone's overall style, sometimes I think it looks good and sometimes I don't.
Also, this might be off topic, but I don't think tattoo's will be that big of a deal in the future. I feel like most people have one or more these days. Kinda like how the vast majority of girls have pierced ears, tattoo's will become the norm.

It's rapidly reaching the point where you're more individual if you DON'T have a tattoo. Anyway, I like them in general but you're a certified idiot if you get anything on your knuckles, neck, or face.
And at least put some thought into what you're going to get. There's a guy I've seen working at a downtown McDonald's who has "MOB" vertically on his forearm in huge letters. Classy.
