Since "Alien vs. Predator" is coming in August - and since I saw "Aliens" a couple weekends ago - I've got aliens on the brain, and I thought I'd make this thread. What was your favorite Alien movie and why? To start off, I got something to say about all four:
"Alien" - I was six when the first one came out and I remember wanting the Alien action figure. As I grew older I learned to appreciate the claustrophobic terror the movie created that none of its sequels have matched ("Aliens" is very close though). Plus never getting a good look at the alien until the very end was a nice touch. A-
"Aliens" - I heard on a TV documentary that if "Alien" is a haunted house, "Aliens" is a roller coaster, and I think that's a great comparison. This movie had the most memorable side characters (Newt, Hudson, Hicks, etc.) and the final battle with the queen can't be beat. A
"Alien 3" - Now this is the one that is supposed to be bad. I disagree. The third movie took a lot of risks - killing off Newt, going back to one alien instead of hundreds (and making it come out of a dog, no less) And having Ripley stuck with all those inmates creates a tense atmosphere even with no aliens. Not great, but not terrible. B
"Alien: Resurrection" - I didn't really care much for this one. The whole premise seemed kinda weak. And the makers relied too much on star talent (Winona Ryder, Brad Douriff and Ron Perlman) in an attempt to eclipse what was IMO a substandard movie. And the queen giving birth at the end - can we say "jumping the shark", anyone? C
Anyhow those are just my thoughts. BTW, AVP looks badass.
(It's a very light day at work, can't you tell?)

I ment to show you this: Here ya go man.
I agree totally with the ratings. I used to HATE Resurection, but now I just barely tolerate it.
I owned every single "Aliens" action figure, even the butt-ugly snake alien. :)
I remember Drake's action figure pissed me off because it wouldn't stand with that damn heavy-ass machine gun.

True. But like Even for that ..$50 is nothing. Give it maybe until theres a day left for the auction and it'll be upwords of $140-$150. Ah They don't make collectibles like they used to. They tried to revive the 3 inch GI JOE's. But.... I dont think its working. Kids these days will never know the badass shows/figures we had back when I was growing up. Thundercats...He-Man...So classic.

Hey, was there an actual name for the species of Alien? Or are they just known as Aliens.

In "Aliens" I heard them being referred to as "xenomorphs." But now I know that's just a fancy way of saying "aliens".
I own most (if not all) of the Alien and Alien vs. Predator comics and they were never given a name of their own. That's to the best of my knowledge, anyway.

Thanks. Oh well, Aliens it is then.

The scientific name for the Alien species is Linguafoeda Acheronsis. I got that from the comic Aliens vs. Predator vs. The Terminator. Which is a pretty good comic despite how rediculus it sounds... later
