The Iron Lady Has Faded - Margaret Thatcher Dies at 87
As an American, I know how important she was not only to Great Britain, but to my own country.
The Iron Lady died this morning of a stroke. Margaret Thatcher was Great Britain's first and still only female prime minister. Though heavily criticized as a brutal warmonger, she is credited for revolutionizing British government.
I do know there are many people worldwide who have choice words about her, so I ask that we keep the thread respectful and civil.

She revolutionised my country: causing mass unemployment for miners, privatising the rail industry and stealing milk from children. No one i know is saddened by her passing. I know a few people who would like to jump on her grave, but they won't because they hate queueing.
I don't think any good will come of her death, but i can't say i'm all that upset by it either. Sorry but that's just how i feel. I don't think she was all bad, but i think her reputation is more detrimental than glorious.

I'm a conservative and a capitalist and I've never been shy about that. I'm an ardent proponent of privatization, curbing government spending, and shrinking the size of government. Despite my.....issues with the United Kingdom, England in particular, I always had a great admiration for Lady Thatcher. Obviously she had her enemies, but every politician does. She was strong, intelligent, conservative woman; something conservatives like me wish we had now (go away Palin). Some may be happy that she is dead, but Maggie Thatcher was a woman who achieved greatness on her own merit and I'm sure, wherever she is, she's looking down and listening to her critics and doing just as she did before; not giving a damn. Rest in peace Lady Thatcher.
Also, I guess as an American and capitalist I never got the milk thing. Here everybody pays for their own milk unless they're on welfare or in a particular income bracket. Also, I fucking hate milk; haven't drank a glass of milk in years.

I don't like her polices on the Public sector, being a Public Sector worker myself.
However, I'm from Northern Ireland and she handled IRA terrorism here very well regardless of what IRA sympathisers would have you believe.

I seen this earlier and loll'd because of how true it is.
One thing I will say is this though: a lot of people from the Republic of Ireland couldn't stand the woman and I've actually seen people out partying and celebrating the night she died. From what I've read about her (from people on both sides of the fence) she seemed to make a lot of decisions that had huge detrimental effects on healthcare, the working class and her foreign policies. But one thing I will credit the woman on is her intelligence, by god she was smart and that can't be taken away from her. She was also incredibly confident and as a matriarchal figure in politics she surpassed the legacy of every male priminister who was elected before her.
I wasn't around when she was in office and I certainly can't pass a personal opinion on a woman I've never met, but I do send my condolences to her family. Regardless what she done in her time in office I'm sure it's not easy for her kids or grandchildren to see people openly celebrating and rejoicing that a member of their family has passed away.
