Okay, bear with me here. Remember in Mortal Kombat 1 (or was it MKII? Anyway...) it was stated that in order to invade another realm, one must win 10 straight Mortal Kombat tournaments? Well, it seems to me that after MKII, that idea went right out the window when Shao Kahn pulled the whole Sindel being reborn on earth plot during MK3, but at least Outworld had already won 9 of the tournaments before Liu Kang finally won and Shao Kahn lost patience. And then there was Shinnok in MK4. He didn't even have to win one tournament in order to have his crack at domination of the earth realm. Here's my point. After the whole storyline with the Dragon King and whatever is planned for MK 7 has run its course, I would like to see a return to the "must win 10 straight Mortal Kombat Tournaments" formula. The whole series could start over again from scratch say maybe a couple hundred or even a thousand years later after the events of MKDA, MKD and (I guess) MK7. Let's say that another realm wants to challenge the forces of earth to Mortal Kombat to decide the fate of earth realm (or maybe it could be earth realm trying to dominate another realm this time?) and that would be the first game of the new storyline. Then, the next game would take place hundreds or thousands of years later(I forget how often the Mortal Kombat tournaments are supposed to take place, although I know I've read it somewhere). It could keep going on and on like that for the next generation of MK games. And since the storylines would take place so many years apart from each other, you would always have new characters and fresh storylines, but you could still have returning favorites like Scorpion or Raiden since they're immortal. Anyways, I was just bored and thought I'd throw that idea out there. Let me know what you think!

Sounds kinda good, but fighting games should have returning characters for sequels, and that can't happen if the games take place hundreds of years apart. I know some are immortal, but still, there should be more returners than just Scorpion and Rayden, IMO.

Btw, i think Mortal Kombat tournaments take place once every generation, but i'm not to sure.

true, they do take place once every generation, and the champions of Mortal Kombat become immortal so they could fight in the next tournament...

but does anybody really know how to measure generations? I always wondered that... is it a year, a decade, a century, a millenia? technically if it was when a new generation was created, we'd have new MK tournaments within a day of eachother.

anywaze, I think the idea is good, but shouldn't be used for a while, because there are still so many places to go with the story... perhaps hundreds of years from the current storyline. I think it would be cool to have kharacters that were descendants of past kombatants (would make sense seeing as their anscestors were chosen warriors, wouldn't they kind of be pre-ordained?) or characters that were spiritual successors and obvious parellels to old characters... you could also have immortal characters like Scorpion and Raiden--that is if he doesn't die in Deception and never returns

This is an idea I've thought of since the disapointment I felt with MK4. I personally loved Mk 1,2, and 3. 4 to me was a let down and I contemplated what if. I like this idea. They can open with "what happened" with the previous this generation fighters to give closuer and then set up the new generation. We could have decendants of some now fighters (maybe a decendant of Sonya, Jax, Johnny, Quan Chi, Baraka, Jade anyone really). New Fighters, complete new looks. New Realms. And some all time favs that maybe have survived (Raiden, Scorpion, Fujin, Kitana, Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung??)
I Love the idea. The mistake would be for them to make a prequel. I hate prequels (except Star Wars).

Hey, cool , I really like the idea of having some of the current fighters' descendants taking part in the future tournaments. And as far as returning favs, besides Raiden and Scorpion, you could still bring back Kitana or Sindel or even some of the cyborgs. Kitana is already 10,000 years old and Sindel is who knows how much older so there's no reason they couldn't make a few return appearances. And I have no idea how long the Lin Kuei cyborgs can last, so they could still be around.
