How do i choose? i was kinda hoping to root for both, so at least i won't be disappointed by the winner.

Flareon is far and away the worst Eeveelution. Not just as a fighter, but as a design... His most distinctive quality is yellow poofy things. If Flareon wins and Vaporeon didn't (even though it lost to Espeon), I will be a grumpy goose.

What's with all the hipster hate, though? Neither of these are especially bad Pokemon and Articuno is still one of the best legendary designs in the series.... Acting like it was freakin' Rattata vs. Zubat or something.

The reason for the hate on both of these guys is simple... They could've been great Pokemon had a few things been done differently with them. You've already elaborated on why Flareon (the Fire type with the second-highest Attack stat doesn't get Flare Blitz or any other useful attacking moves) is a disappointment, and Articuno's on a similar boat. The design's good, but it has a similar problem with not getting any good moves to use (it's supposed to be defensive with what? Roost?), and it's too weak to be used defensively either, even though that's what it's built for. It has one of the worst type combos because it's weak to Fire, Electric, Steel, and horribly weak to Rock, and takes neutral damage from Ice and Fighting, all of which are common and powerful. Don't even try using this thing as an Attacker either, unless you want an Ice type that can only use Ice moves and Hurricane.
The point is they both could've been great pokemon if they had the move pools to help the roles they should both have, but Gamefreak never gives them anything really tailored to them.

I agree with you about Flareon not having a great design. Glaceon is far worse though, in my opinion. In-game, Flareon (Articuno too) are the classic cases of GameFreak being idiotic with movepools and not allowing Pokemon to do what they're built to do. Articuno isn't quite as badly off, though. It has ludicrous stats and a set containing Ice Beam, Hurricane, and HP Ground will hurt just about everything. It really only has to fear Stealth Rock. Within its tier, Flareon is a very good wall, but that's about it. It's pretty much limited to a Wish set.

Oh, and don't be shocked by the hipster hate. Gen 1 isn't too popular with some people around here, which is fine, to each their own.

Even though Gen III is my favorite generation in terms of pokemon, I absolutely love Gen I.

Many of my teams usually contain at least two pokemon from Gen I, some with three or more. Gen I is the shit!

I maintain that I vote for who I like most. And again, there are a good number of Gen 4s and 5s that I like as well.

Ya'll are definitely right about Articuno as a fighter, he really got the short end of the stick, but that's not really what this is about. Articuno's a great Pokemon, but like 300 or so other Pokemon, he ain't great in a fight. Though, enabling Articuno and Flareon to succeed is really only a matter of small adjustments like Flareon's move pool or a way to help Articuno deal with its typing. They aren't beyond help like so many other Pokes. Introduce a powerful Pokemon that Articuno is the perfect counter for and he suddenly becomes incredibly useful. They suck in a circumstantial way, as opposed to say... Ninetales, who couldn't function without giving her a legendary's ability... Which has now become her entire purpose... Or Seaking, who just can't do anything well enough.

I personally like Gen 1 and 5 the best... I think... But I've always picked out individuals from the group, never really preferring one entire generation's Pokemon over another.

Flareon. Articuno is really cool too though.

I wish Squirtle or Marowak had made it though.
