I've never been a fan of hockey, but the few times I watched the sport (or played a video game about it) was 'cause of the fights (so yeah, I stopped playing the games when they took the fights out). But what this guy did was cowardly, pathetic, and I sincerely hope this fucker doesn't get to play again.

The NHL suspended him for the rest of the season, and whether or not he gets to play again in the next season will be determined later on. Not only was is a cheap shot from behind, he gave Steve Moore a concussion and broke his neck confused

Bertuzzi can apologize all he wants, but the punch was clearly premeditated, and for someone who was desensitized from sport injuries a loooong time ago, even this left me in shock.

To be honest, I've seen harder hits from behind and guys haven't even gotten suspended, tho he did it out of anger and being a bitch. If he wanted to fight he shoulda spun the dude around.

Oh I've seen much harder hits as well. In fact, from what I saw watching the video, Moore probably got messed up completely when he was driven into the ice (I'd say the punch caused the concussion and his neck was broken after that).

What bothers me is the fashion in which he did it: From behind and without being provoked.

I played and watched hockey practically all my life and what Bertuzzi did in my opinion isn't part of what's considered acceptable in hockey circles.

Even CBC's Hockey Night in Canada - Coach's Corner's Don 'I played exactly one NHL game in my important career' Cherry thinks what Bertuzzi did was wrong.

I've always been into hockey since I was little, kind of gotten away from it the past few years and then came back to it the past season after playing a demo of ESPN Hockey for xbox. I saw the replay of the hit, and it was totally uncalled for, and spineless of burtuzzi to hit him the way he did. I honestly think that it could have been a number off factors for why he did but for just the way he in which he hit him was uncalled for, unsportsman like, and quit frackly Burtuzzi is pussy for hittting Moore from behind and drive him face first into the ice. He derves to be banned from hockey for life. It doesn't matter that Moore knocked their captain out for 3 games a few months ago, or the fact that Vancover was down 9-2.

You have to understand hockey to understand the reason Bertuzzi did what he did. You said he was not provoked...fact is he was. In hockey when another team mate suffers a cheap shot the entire team takes offense to it. Bertuzi was after Moore the entire game to fight. He was frustrated over an earlier cheap shot Moore had dished out earlier in the game to another Vancouver player. Had Moore just droped his gloves earlier and faught Bertuzzi the entire situation would have deflated itself. I'm not sayin what Bertuzzi did is ok... but it was more of an accident then anything. Another similar sitation comes to mind. There was a player for the Boston Bruins named Cam Neely. A Penguin player gave him a cheapshot and Neely was out for several seasons. Eventually Neely came back and started playing hockey again after years of theorpy and training. He met up with the player that side lined him (Ulf Samulson) and tried to pick a fight with him. The guy was a coward and wouldn't fight him... Neely ended up getting ejected from the game for trying to start a fight. Bertuzzi was in a similar situation.. he just wanted revenge for the cheap shot that was given to his team mate...he probably figured he would deliver one of his own.

i think he shouldnt be able to play again i mean he hit the guy from behind and broke his neck he could have killed him, made him a vegtable, or just Paralized him. he got very lucky he will recover fully.

The whole thing happened because Moore knocked Naslund out for 3 games earlier in the year. I don't think Bertuzzi needed to send another message, as Moore already fought earlier in the game. What Bertuzzi did was cowardly. Fighting is part of the game, but cheap shots aren't. If Moore doesn't recover, I don't think Bertuzzi will be back.
