Smash Bros. is a helluva fun, well-crafted, addictive fighting game that has consumed more social lives than problem any other fighter, with the notable exception of Street Fighter II back in its day. I think the status is well-deserved, and the only controversy it might cause is the fact that it's not a "traditional" fighting game. But, I was surprised DOA was in there, yet KOF wasn't. Not that it matters in the least, but the underrated Bloody Roar 2 game was one of the best ever crafted for the PSX. Naturally, it's no where to be seen (or heard of ever again. Sad.) Fatality.

Well KOF and Samurai Showdown ARE part of SNK so at least they get some recegnintion in Capcom VS SNK. I thought Virtua Fighter would be much higher up though.

I'd defintitely put the SF series and VF much higher (at least in the top 3), but of ocurse, it's just an opinion - one of the main reasons I don't count "top 10" and other polls like that...it's too opinionated.

At least a Guilty Gear game made it on the list, lol.

Filter seriously dropped the ball on this one. MK should be 1st followed by Street Fighter in 2nd and KOF in 3rd.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike alone is reason enough for Street Fighter to be at the top. Ther's also the fact that other than SF1, there's never been a bad SF game. Sure SFA1 and SF3: New Generation were mediocre but the rest are excellent. Soul series at the top is simply laughable. Going by individual games, it should've looked something like this:

1.) Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
2.) Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution
3.) Tekken 3
4.) Street Fighter Alpha 3
5.) Tekken Tag Tournament
6.) Super Street Fighter II Turbo
7.) Guilty Gear XX #Reload (as much as I hate GG)
8.) Marvel vs. Capcom 2
9.) Capcom vs. SNK 2
10.) King of Fighters '98

Ugh, Filter is so awful though and I tend not to take their retarded opinions on anything. This is the same program mind you that in one episode had Shenmue listed as one of the worst games of all time (which is bull shit itself) and in another listed it as one of the best Dreamcast games of all time.

I would of put Soul Calibur at least number 3 or 4. its a great game buts gets boring after a while.

Perhaps there should have been 2 lists: one for 2D and one for 3D. I hate comparing the two.

I coulnd't DISAGREE with that list more... I really don't see how you can even put SC that high, or super smash brothers... Granted the SC games are good games, but the staying power MK has, the technical fighting VF offers among other more deserving franchises. I really think MK is among one of the few series that actually has reinvented itself. Every franchise is going to have their MK4, I dunno I just don't agree with ranking in terms of series... maybe it's more on ball if you count single games but not a series as a whole.

Soul Calibur and SSB only have 2 games each, so I think that is retarded putting them as 1 and 2 and so is having Marvel vs. Capcom as 4.

You misunderstood. I never said SNK did CVS, but since people here were complaining about Samurai Showdown and KOF not being on the list, all I said was that those games got some recegnition being, part of the SNK roster.

And MK is one of those games that has never tried to reinvent itself over the years. It's only recently that it truely began to evolve. I'm pretty happy that Soul Calibur took #1. What I'm dissapointed in is the fact that Virtua Fighter, the game that first introduced 3D fighting, wasn't higher up on the list.

KoF is only big in like Mexico, parts of China and some Japa cades. I find it so amusing that the entire world, except the US, jocks VF like no tomarrow, lol. Whatever. G4 sucks, anyways. Only Icons and anything with Adam Sesler (sp) are worth watching. Bleh.

super smash bros is fun but not a great fighting game
tekken is right were it should be
marvel vs capcom cant really judge because ive never played it and same with marvel vs. snk
mk should be in top 3 (its my favoritew series)
DOA sucks and shouldnt be on this list
street fighter is a great series and fun to play.
same goes for virtua fighter
and guilty gear should have cracked the top 5
