i dont see why everyone thinks GTA is contreversial its Cartoony to me. MK shouldnt be number 2 either MK is obviously a game that could never happen. People just need to relieze that they are video games nothing more... as for Manhunt all i can say is I love that game smile on my top 3 for favorite games.

I know it's tame compared to today's standards, but Night Trap created much more controversy than almost all of 'em combined.

GTA and MK are exactlly where I expect them to be. GTA may look cartoony, but when you play any of the GTA games than you'd know why its #1 on the list.

The reason MK was so high up is because, it introduced the Fatality back in the early 90's. People haven't seen anything like that before and freaked. As for GTA, I don't see how it's that cartoony, especially GTA 3. That game is number one because of it's original concept, where you walked around killing innocent pedestrians and police, and car jacked people.

You kind get a sense of how up tight America is when you see Final Fantasy. Granted it wasn't in the top ten, but it was mentioned nonetheless.

I don't know what people label as contreversial, I think that up tight parents and poloticinas only take a glance at the game, and focus on the gore instead of the actual premise of the game.

Ah, The exquisite premise of Grand Theft Auto. Your an escaped convict and are contracted to kill and steal for the mafia. Damn parents and politicians with their outrageous thoughts!

When MK1 came out for Sega/SNES, and then 2 hit the arcades, that was the most controversy I've ever seen for any game.

Wow, I didn't even know that game even registered a blip on the radar. Never saw anything about it on the news like I did MK.

Anyway, I understand why GTA is #1, it has created the most controversy, but I don't see why. To me, the game is fake/cartoony and tries to be "disturbing" (I guess), but fails miserably and comes off as cheap and corny.

Personally, I think MK should have been number 1. It caused so much controversy back when it first came out. I think it caused more than when GTA III and Vice City came out.

Hmm, Maybe the reason why MK isn't #1 because of those Damn Friendships and Babalities. How Cute!

I really thought MK should have been #1. When MK came out, a lot of parents and censors were foaming at the mouth when it came to the content of the game itself. It basically paved the way for a lot of controversial games that cames after it, such as GTA.

Also, I really thought Doom should have been higher on the list. It came out the same/about the same time as MK did and made just as much noise with censors. Number 8!?!?!? Are u kidding me?

The list needs to be redone.

I'd definitely have to say that Mortal Kombat and Grand Theft Auto series have had huge impact on the media whether it be the past or present, it introduced violent ways of influencing the lives of innocent people and not so innocent to satisfy everyone's hunger and a need to keep on preying.

Slowly..the gaming industry when introduces games such as these, tends to step up the tempo for more degrading titles for the future, such as bmx xxx, and playboy mansion, and now with many titles like The guy game, and Street racing syndicate, and leisure suit larry.

This shows that todays' games are much more mature than they used to be, and that video games aren't just video games, they're much more to it than a cartridge or disc.
Also, there's the espn nfl game, with the first person mode, also known as the crash cam, which i heard that someone(beta tester) tested the game, and after feeling the effects, he could really feel the effects, and he literally felt like smashing into everything or anyone he saw, i'm not sure how the exact details were, but they were somewhat of the sort. And, i'm not even sure if the story is even true, but it goes to show that todays' games, do have impacts on people's lives. Most of us just take games as fun, pass time, or the hardcore gamers, who try to break records and search for all the hidden secrets, or codes in a game, but there are those who just play games and are the monkey see monkey do type. With no common sense at all, they'll go and perform acts of stupidity.
We can't exactly blame the game completely, nor can we blame the person completely, but both should be blamed partially for taking responsibilities in creating such a game, and should be blamed partially for allowing themselves to play the game.

I really don't see Mortal Kombat as a big influence on society to create havoc. It doesn't give people the motive to go out there and start kicking the crap out of your neighbour. For most of us, it's all about the gameplay, and the strategy, and the codes, secrets, and the respect, and the story, etc.
As for GTA, yea, that sure is a method of saying, hey you, give me your car or die. The game is totally everything inside out illegal in reality. Although it is a good game, but it is a game that has shaped most of the world today and has put that desire into our mind to get a nice ride, who knows how we get it? stolen? drugs? it teaches the kids of nowadays words we wouldn't even have encountered until a much mature state and time. The world is getting smarter and brighter day by day, and so are the kids, but with the smarts in the eyes of a serial killer?..video games aren't the only influence on todays' youth, the music industry has dived into the water with video games, short circuiting a couple of wires sending static in the wrong direction. Rap was and is a major impact on many people, and has given the meaning of singing a whole new meaning. Both industries, whenever it maybe, get the controversy, but why is it controversy if it isn't being put to a stop?

That is what's wrong with the world. And that's why it just keeps getting worse.

I can completely see why GTA got number one... seriously, it's not how "fake" or "cartoony" it is, it's the very concept! You go around breaking every law you possibly can for shits and giggles. That's exactly why it'd be so controversial in America.

I believe there was a game out a while ago that was never ported from Arcade to home systems, but I think it was called BloodStorm. Extremely gory, and I'll always remember this image of the king or whoever getting his stomach sliced open with guts pouring out in the intro. Yum.

And would someone please please please explain to me how Final Fantasy is controversial?

O.K. the thing about Final Fantasy VII.
(This truely shows how up tight America has become.)
They said it was contriversial, not the the material, but what was underlying. It dealed with cloning, death, war and other things that politicaly correct tightwads deam as evil or contreversial. Pretty fucked up ain't it?
